The Smart Stuff - MKX: Prevent the downfall of the NRS community

Fractured_Shadow

Really likes to throw things at you.
I think it's being downplayed how quickly the community is getting MKX. This isn't injustice where it was almost like a different language to a lot of us. Everyone likes to pull out facts that people were wrong about, but I'm willing to bet that most people worth listening to are pretty spot on about their characters at the minute.
Shhh you will make the "let it breath" crowd angry.

But seriously...QFT.

It is pretty obvious the tools that a character needs in MKX to be viable.

Our 2013 EVO was kind of a mess, and we (straight from the horse's mouth) almost didn't get a second EVO for Injustice because of it. While everything needs time to evolve, we also shouldn't play dumb and should keep a close eye on things that might end up ruining the better aspects of the metagame.

One of the key things about Injustice was that there was a much deeper level of gameplay waiting to come to the surface -- but it wasn't able to shine until "f23f23f23f23f23", the ridiculous cooldown on Batman's trait, etc. were removed. It wasn't about "levelling up", because literally IMMEDIATELY after that malarkey was patched out in Oct., there was an amazingly varied major which people almost universally described as having some of the best gameplay the game had ever seen. It literally saved the competitive community.

Now, imagine EVO 2013 but with Cyborg's original mid-hitting fireball, interactibles still doing 40% damage, the original d2s, Killer Frost left alone.. In addition to f23. Yeah. That would have been even more disastrous and no one wants to see that at the highest level of the fighting game community's biggest stage. Marvel may get a pass because it's historically broken; but Mortal Kombat will not.

So I'd just advocate a balanced approach -- don't jump the gun (no one is calling for specific nerfs/buffs yet), but be willing to be honest and identify things that might need evening out. Because when the silly stuff is removed, I have no doubt that the true subtlety and beauty of MKX's gameplay mechanics will be allowed to shine through.

In a game where every knock down is a bar of your meter or get mashed by a 50/50. Some players like me can't stand how bad it is. 15 people have vortexs /resets and of you don't have 1 or 1 really nasty move your character is gone

Real talk though, Kung Jin Bojutsu damage needs to scale properly, and there needs to be more recovery frames added to Jacqui's machine gun in her full auto variation.

people are always calling for nerfs and buffs because of the way NRS games are designed. these games are much harder to actually get balanced as opposed to a japanese style fighting game

The salt is the main reason I come to this forum (besides sharing tech I find, and whatnot)

Beaten, by this mere man
'Broke Superman unfairly'
'Remember Bane?' Remember all the characters who people were right about this early on?
'Kung Jin isn't DLC so will get burned'
'No obviously overpowered zoners' Summoner Quan Chi says hi.
'Don't complain before it's labbed' because all of us haven't been labbing the shit out of the characters?

The Kitana community knows she isn't good.
The Kenshi community knows he isn't very good.
The Shinnok community knows that he sucks.
The Kotal community knows that everything apart from War God sucks.

Right I'm the idiot...I'm the idiot because I'm deciding not to believe that 4 characters aren't viable at all by week 2 and that there's no way around Quan chi's zoning or any other op feature in the game. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

I'm not going to properly reply to this because you jumping to extremes and putting words in my mouth doesn't help anything.

Also, if you're saying these these character specialists need to wait for a balance patch, then crying is exactly what they need to do in order to put the characters on the patch radar. If no one talked about how shitting or stupid some stuff is then NRS would most likely presume it's fine and leave it.

They can nerf Kung Jin and Quan Chi all they want. They did the same with Raiden and Kung Lao in MK9 and a few months after Kabal, Cyrax, and Sonya emerged to the top ranks. When it happens in MKX I'll just jump wagon and play the next best character, because there will always be a best character.

I'm wondering if I should just do the same, lol. I'll play with who I like, but I'll have a pocket top tier just because.

Too right man, in MK9 and Injustice being a character loyalist was all dandy. Now with ESL and the Kombat Kups there is more than just pride at stake, there's a shit load of cash, if you want to be competitive why fuck around with a character if you think they're trash? A lot of people have already given up on there characters and are jumping bandwagon, which I think is pretty harmful to the development of the game this early on but to be honest I dont blame them with so much on the line.

Bottom line is, if you think your character has potential but needs time to evolve, stick it out. If not, stop wasting your time and crying and just pick someone who is considered top already.

Kung Jin? Yes his damage needs to scale more. Jacqui? No. Why do there need to be more recovery frames on her machine gun? Because you aren't being patient? Just duck and run cancel in. That's what the run mechanic was designed for: so zoning wouldn't be a problem. Her bullets aren't even mids dude lol.

To make up for the fact that they negate any armor in the game. I already know you can clear duck it. It's more of an issue with risk/reward for scenarios when you're across the screen. If Kenshi gets punished this badly for zoning choices, other characters should receive equal treatment IMO.
