1PM EST so in about 3 hours. How many hours for the stream?
he uses scorpion so i am hype to see how he does.Footwurk going in, that guy leveled up a hell of a lot within a week.
he uses scorpion so i am hype to see how he does.
Sucks cuz footwurk hasn't lost to anyone this tournament. He checked in early but they still put him in losers... So yea he's undefeated technically.
What exactly happened?Yeah, he got screwed. It always happens to Wurk lol.
What exactly happened?
I'd like an explanation from both sides cause right now that sounds awful/completely not his faultRoughly he checked in really early for his MKX pool and when he went to check the status of his match he found out he'd been DQ'd to losers.
you aren't as familiar with the US scene so i'll cut you some slack hereI'm in awe with the apparent fact that fighting game tournament organisers didn't anticipate so many registrations for a new release of best known fighting game of all time.
This is sub-par.
I don't understand, was he not in there area when they called his match or something? Like did he go away somewhere after checking in?Roughly he checked in really early for his MKX pool and when he went to check the status of his match he found out he'd been DQ'd to losers.
I appreciate the info but that is still not an excuse.you aren't as familiar with the US scene so i'll cut you some slack here
here's the deal. some majors around the US rely on one game or one style of game as their main calling card in order to stand out from the rest. it gives you a more distinctive reputation if you can be THE tourney for a particular game. examples:
Final Round: Tekken
Northwest Majors: Anime, particularly the more niche anime games
NEC: all the "poverty" games during the dark days (Melty, Arcana Heart, MK, DOA)
UFGT: Mystery Tournament
Season's Beatings: Marvel 2 during that game's peak
so you have situations like this sometimes, and they aren't unique to this particular tournament. the past couple Final Rounds have gotten a TON of complaints from viewers due to the amount of time Tekken got on the main stream. it's way out of whack with the game's numbers and probably suboptimal from a business standpoint, but Tekken has long been FR's core identity and it has a higher level of play there than anywhere else outside of Evo or the US. they want to keep it that way, stream monsters be damned.
having been there for tournament, i can safely say that the Pacific Northwest is the most anime-heavy FG scene in America. particularly in terms of the love for non-Evo-material anime games like Skullgirls and UNIEL, only the Midwest comes anywhere close. Northwest Majors is also by far the smallest tournament that anyone considers a "major", and frankly it tends to feature a much lower level of play for Capcom & NRS games. NRS in particular had NEVER drawn good numbers there IIRC - Skullgirls this year had more players than i think MK9 or Inj ever had there!
so there was plenty of past history to suggest MKX wouldn't be this big, and there was also a desire to feature the tournament's "signature" games. the idea is that the tournament comes off best by showcasing the games with the highest level of play relative to other majors, and for NWM that's Skullgirls and UNIEL. they could have perhaps done a better job forecasting MKX's popularity, but i think this was reasonable. this is something other majors need to learn from more than a blowup for them, i think.
so yes, i'm not angry about this at all. i totally get why yall are still paranoid about MK's status within the scene, but i think it's time to stop worrying about a return to the dark days. this community is daniel bryan at this point - you'll always have your fans and a better spot than most, even if you get "buried" here and there.
I don't understand, was he not in there area when they called his match or something? Like did he go away somewhere after checking in?
i can see this, but past history likely played a role here. again, NRS couldn't draw flies there in the past when MK9 and IGAU were "hot new games". before it came out, many in the scene figured MKX wouldn't be any bigger than those, and even now there's still a lot of skepticism over its long-term staying power.I appreciate the info but that is still not an excuse.
2 weeks after the game was released the TOs have not done their research on THE next-gen fighting game's release.
You have a scenario where -
Game X
Game Y
Skullgirls
MKX
In your position, you give Skullgirls a +1 considering it's your dedicated fighting game type.
You must also give MKX a +1 because it's the next brand new and hot fighting game.
I understand you can't put it on equal grounds yet, but you can cram up games X and Y for totally understandable reasons.
there is a point if you actually RUN games people care about. seriously, yall forget that the stream is secondary to the live event.there's no point in advertising your tourny as a major when you're streaming a bunch of games noone cares about.
I'll take the blame for that. He never checked in with me for his pool. We held up the bracket for half an hour waiting For him. I paged him 4 times, the last with a 5 minute DQ warning. Then I sent him to losers. We only had a certain amount of stream time and I needed to make sure we utilized it. And as you can see I failed. I ran all 3 pools with only one other person. We had 90 entrants with two people and new system problems to deal with. I had to do what I thought was best in the moment. I have a lot to say about NWM but right now I'm gonna enjoy my reward for my hard work and have some fun on stageI'd like an explanation from both sides cause right now that sounds awful/completely not his fault

I agree w thissorry, but streams are a huge part of everything these days. get your head out of the sand.
As a Jin player, I do hope not many ppl are using him...To be honest, this top 8 reeks of foreshadowing to me. This Kung Jin everywhere shit is reminiscent of the anti-hype that Injustice went through pre-patch when there was nothing but Superman everywhere.
I know it's a bit premature to draw that comparison just yet still, but I'm wary of how fast the hype for this game would fade if Kung Jin makes up half the top 8 at its first Evo.
The game has been out two weeks. To me the KJ situation feels like green lantern the first month of injustice, yolo lifters won everything. People will learn, stop tolling the bell at the first major. It's by far the easierst character to pick up and play, the same reason why there were TWO Kung Jin at fatal 8, out of the whole roster two people still noticed how easy his bnbs were. Why has everyone decided the best way to help this game is to complain on tym? Go learn how to beat KJ and help the whole scene out.To be honest, this top 8 reeks of foreshadowing to me. generally i agree. but i don't believe in doing this at the EXPENSE of the players who show commitment, and don't think you necessarily have to do that.I agree w this
If u want the FGC to grow then streams/productions need to aspire to be as great as sport productions for any live sport
