Oh fuck the stance specific shit is back
Why else would the stance switch button be in the game?

? What's that
lol m8 did you read my post before liking? :)

Stance specific (open stance) and after J1 only:

J1 4xxspin NJP JK DK f14
Super easy combo with 31% damage but hardly hit confirmable

Tempest stance specific (open stance):
4xxhatspin 44 run b312xxspin JK DK f14
Seems to be a 2 frame link between hatspin and 44, but will be rewarded with 46% damage meterless
4xxspin and 4xxharspin only connects when in open stance. You may not notice because when the game starts you are already in open stance, so you won't see those moves whiffing unless you change stance after starting

Not saying that, believe me I know there is plenty of characters who have stance specific shit (and plenty who don't). But my question is why

Its just an extra completely unnecessary mechanic, that makes execution of certain niche things significantly more difficult, without adding any extra layering or competitive improvement to neither gameplay, strategy, nor even aesthetics.

I strongly suspect that it is just there because they want 3D models that flip stances during animations and whatever else, but this throws out certain hitboxes for characters and moves, so rather than work harder on the coding they just put in a flip stance button and said "here, now you can just play around our bad coding"

I just realized ex orbiting hat will absorb a projectile. It disappears after but at least you don't get hit or forced to block.

I actually really like it. It adds a new element of difficulty to the game; it's not easy to be constantly aware of the stances of both players. Generally speaking, I don't like the "easy access" games are offering nowedays. If poeple want to play successful, if they wan't to play >50% combos, they should have to show some dedication.

That's such a naive way of looking at it. Difficulty without depth is just a meaningless barrier which detracts from gameplay instead of adding to the competitive strength of a game.

"B-b-but muh skillcap"

Let it find it's way into the game by through mechanically deep combos, through meter awareness and game knowledge, through judgement, prediction, risk taking, and outplaying your opponent (all these things have a definitive purpose in gameplay and competitive depth). Don't do it through a useless feature that serves no other purpose than to distract you from all these positive features , detracting focus away from the actual competitive aspect of the game whenever it is relevant.

Plus, given the niche nature of it, if you think it serves any other purpose than to fill up an empty controller button and at the same time clean up for lazy coding, you are kidding yourself. No-one who has put any amount of thought into it thinks this is a good gameplay mechanic to find ways to include, not even NRS, I would bet my house that not a single stance specific interaction is intentional, or anything but a side effect during development stage of the game due to nature of using breathing 3D hitbox models with asymmetrical stances, that they knew they could just sweep away with L2. Admittedly, it would likely be pretty hard to fix individual instances without completely alter acting very single other interaction. Doesn't make it a good mechanic however.

In mk9 Kung Laos 24 spin would whiff in one stance and connect on the other. On hit. It's not an intended mechanic of the game and doesn't add depth. I don't want to be looking at my opponent and thinking on top of oh/low/ fast poke/ armor/ block/ jump/ back dash if my stance is going to be an issue.

My bad dude, that was rude of me. "Naive way of looking at it" is what I should have said, it's late here.

i know for a fact it was never intended to affect combos. Its poor game design.
That's undeniable, but do you know if it was included in the final product because of laziness, and the ease of sweeping it up with the L2 button? Or is something like that extremely hard to code out for individual niche interactions? Or, did these things just slip development, and might even be an easy patch soon?

I could imagine in being any of the above, just wondering if anyone actually knows or has something more than just my speculation

You know, I understand your point of view and it's 100% legit; I just don't share it. However, let's not take this to a personal level. Rock on m8

So both characters have to meet stance requirements for certain combos? What a drag.
You can alter your stance to meet the requirements; it doesn't matter if both players have their back to the screen or their chest to the screen; what matters is that they both face the same direction

id say send out a few tweets to the devs and ask was it intentional? I dunno why but since tanya came out i have been really wanting to find out weird and useless tech for characters
