Lists like this are now discouraging because they are mainly based on MLG. No matter who does what in any other MK9 major from this point forward, the argument of what they did or did not do in MLG will always keep them off of the top 10 list. This is mainly because no major will have this collection of elites under one roof again for MK9.
It is one of the biggest factors in my decision to not compete again. Sadly, i was not allowed to compete at MLG, and it will eternally be held against me. Play at NEC? why? get top 5.. top 8? why? nothing changes, and this kills the drive to compete. I have gone to tourneys in the last 3 months and been in the top 2-3 in all of them, even having some very good quality wins vs top players. as i said, nothing changed then, and after Absolute Battle and NEC things still wont change hence there is no drive or reason to compete.
For newer players coming in or finally breaking out, no tourney they attend or do well in will ever break them into the top 10 spot. This can also be discouraging.
Bill, weve had this conversation on the phone before. You had a choice. And I still believe you made the right choice, both for you and for the community. The community needs a face, a figurehead. You brought a sense of professionalism and sophisticated commentary in your position at MLG. You made the game look good, you made the community look good. By the power of your voice alone you had the ultimate power to shape the way this game and this community were portrayed at MLG. And long after MK9 has gone the way of the dinosaur this position will likely continue to present you with new opportunities.
Did it come with a sacrifice? Yes. You had to decide between working for MLG and being a competitor. I know you live to compete, but there will always be other tournaments, and other games.
People serve the community in different ways. We have our top players who get the limelight like REO,CD jr,Pig etc etc. But there are many other people who serve the community in many different ways.
We are speaking on this forum right now because of Storms and Krayzie Bone. They brought us all together and united the various factions within the MK community(UMK, CMK, MKE)
We have guys who allow people to be heard in the community by hosting various podcasts, KTP, D4cast, On Blast show, Woolay show.
Guys like 9.95 and Shock who barely play MK9. But when they come calling the whole northeast comes charging to them.
The top players are just one link in the chain that makes this community gold. And many people have taken different paths to becoming well known in this community.
You shouldnt regret your path Bill. And you should accept the sacrifices that went with it. Realize the MLG events were/are the biggest MK extravaganza's this community has ever had. And you were the face, the voice, and the ultimate power behind how we looked to the world behind it all. Be happy with that brother, its way more than most of us will ever get to do.
