They need to be removed in my opinion, but as long as they remain everyone better be using them or you'll most likely end up getting bopped

Why? Because option selects are terrible and everyone agrees that they wish they would be removed? How is it a terrible thread?
Just play the game. You either adapt or get left behind. I'm surprised any of you have time to play with all the complaining I see everyday. Home of competitive MK my ass.

If they havent taken them out already I doubt they'll take them out. There's been like 5 threads on this and every one has showed that the community overwhelmingly supports getting rid of them. So either they A. Can't or B. Don't want to. It is what it is, my advice would be to learn them.

P.S. Ermac has OS's for sure. Not sure what the exact input is but I would ask around in the Ermac forums.

See that's the problem. If you want there to be such a thing as "competitive MK" you should not want option selects in the game. That's the whole point. Moves with high reward are designed to be punishable for a reason. If you want a game where reads and risks are eliminated due to a programming glitch that makes everything safe and you consider that "competitive" I question your definition of the word.

Yawn. It doesn't matter. Boohoo the game doesn't play like "I" want it. Learn every mechanic of a game whether intentional or not. OS are a part of it, you are just gonna have to get used to it.

I will get used to it but it doesn't change the fact that it is a GLITCH and should be fixed like any other glitch. And its not just me that feels this way, look at the poll...93% of the people on this site agree as well. Its no defferent than trying to defend the input bug in mk9. Do I love and play mk9? Yes. Do I think that a GLITCH like the input bug should be fixed if possible? Heck yes! And imo these option selects are worse than the input bug because they literally remove reads and risks in competitive play for some characters.

Option selects are almost as dumb as vortexes, almost. But both are in the game and I don't want them patched out. I'm absolutely sick of the "complain until fixed" mentality. Even if it's warranted, it's still incredibly annoying to me. Let it rock IMO.

It's not a glitch. It's a result of the cancel window being different on hit then it is on block

I personally dont see anything wrong with option selects period.
In Streetfighter the biggest one was the crouch teching, and not that many people were a fan.
But it felt needed. Imagine being pinned in the corner by Dudley with no Crouch Tech.
Point is sometimes its more necessary than you like to think. Never played MK to know how bad it is, but i really dont mind em if you can do it. If every character has option selects, wouldnt that technically make it "balanced"?

@Matix218 I forgot, every street fighter iteration isn't competitive either.

Btw @TopTierHarley you're quickly become my favorite member of TYM
Jer I get what you are saying and I realize that sf games also have option selects but come on, do you really want this in MKX? I don't understand how people can defend and support a (non intentional) mechanic that dumbs down guessing games to be completely in the attackers favor. Especially in a game where offense already has the edge on defensive play like mkx. Im not saying mkx is not competitive with OSs but I think it would be more interesting if you were forced to make a read or take a risk rather than let the game do the move for you only if it hits

I still haven't asked what exactly option select is (I lie I have but I forgotten the answer I was given lol)
If someone would kindly re explain for me?

What I mean is that the designers did not intend this to make unsafe specials only come out on hit. In that sense it is a Glitch.
If nrs wanted them gone they would of patched it out already instead of just patching the 123 option select.

1. Ermac has great offensive option selects

2. Pretty much everyone agrees that option selects should go, in every thread and every post since the game came out.

3. Very few people are actually even learning the option selects because they are extremely lazy

4. Yes these type of option selects are in MK9 and INJ and people knew that but go try them, they are ridiculously hard to do, since the input system is different. MKX they are definitely doable in a tournament setting.

5. There exists defensive option selects as well that are mostly unrelated to the complaining in this thread, just wanted to bring it up

@Matix218 I don't mind them, but I just use as much dumb shit as I can to win.
By all means use what you are given. Of course you should! I mean Look at mk9 cyrax lol. If the OSs stay will I use them? Definitely. I just hope they don't stay because IMO they dumb down a layer of read/risk that goes on in the minds of the two players who are playing.

Im not disrespecting you btw, use whatever the game allows you to use to win!

Dizzy can you elaborate a little more on the defensive option selects that you mentioned?

I didn't take anything as disrespect buddy don't worry. There's just a lot of complaining recently on TYM/twitter and it's just whatever. I just have the mentality of play to win, and ill abuse whatever's in the game to get me there.

I thought mk players would be praising Paulo about all these 50/50. At least you can guess to stay alive instead of just dying to cyrax and smoke

Whoa whoa, ive heard of someone using a defensive option select in a tournament but noone went in depth.
What are these defensive option selects. As someone who loves Streetfighter, I love to find and use option selects
