DE is the creator of Warframe, a really big PvE game. Blizzard is the creator of Starcraft, Warcraft, WoW, HOTS, etc. They often comment about what they need to change about starcraft and why they chose to rebalance the game the way they did. I don't know anything about wow and HOTS. And the Call of Duty guys do similar things. Many smaller companies communicate with the players too.

And btw
DE is the best Developer man, I freaking keep coming back to Warframe because I just love DE as a group so much. Probably the strongest game so far in the free to play model IMO.

What company let's changes be known to the community before the patch hits? I'm sure it'd be the minority even if you can list examples. NRS isn't being "secretive", they're just doing the patching as they, and most other devs, have always done.
DE, Warframe.

I'll counter with DOTA 2, which receives a vast amount of updates while rarely informing people of the changes within and sometimes they don't even give all the notes within the patch. It's currently one of the largest competitive games in the World.

Edit: What are the benefits of knowing the patch notes before hand for fighters?

Why? Because people don't know exactly what they're getting next patch? The only problem there is things you were doing before won't work now but that's the nature of patches/updates and that doesn't change whether you know before the patch or once it drops. Even if NRS answered the "will she be patched in time for EVO" it'd be the company spiel of "we're working as hard as we can to make sure the game is as balanced as possible before EVO".
Alright. "Issue" may be a bit strong. Being updated is a luxury that really isn't that difficult to accommodate.
Thanks for staying smart and bringing a strong argument, btw.

Sorry to bring this up, but I like the way Iron Galaxy did things with their patches. They would take the 30 minutes or so on a stream to go through the patch notes, explaining what is changing and why, and they would also answer questions posed on there official forums. of course KI has only a fraction of the characters that MKX has, but I'm sure it would be a much more comprehensive way of doing things.

NRS should take notes. Interacting with the community about any changes, and giving hard dates (just the week a patch is coming would do) is the way things should be done. Of course MK has a MUCH larger community to satisfy than KI does, and TYM is just one site in the sea of sites for MKX as a whole, but yeah, it would go a long way.

IG really went that far? Something like that would be a dream come true.

Why would they focus on something they can't change anymore ? It's already too late for the Online.
Posted this in another thread, but I'll put it here as well regarding it being "Too late" to fix online.

When Battlefield 4 first came out, the game was riddled with latency admittedly by the devs due to the code, tickrate, and other bugs. The tickrate was 10 upon release. The first patches came a month after release improving the netcode, huge improvement, and the current tickrate is 30 [CounterStrike being 120] This game is four years old or more and is constantly being updated.

They've also have come up with something called CTE [Community Testing Environment] where they test out balance, netcode, hitboxes, hurtboxes, projectile spreads/velocity, damage models and tickrate changes on private servers that the community has access to, and can leave feedback on.

There is consistent weekly downtimes for server maintenance along with constant updates improving the playability of this four year old game, even when they have a newer game out. That game Battlefield Hardline also has it's own CTE.

This summer another netcode change is coming to BF4 making the tickrate 120, up to par with the best any shooter has ever had... on a four year old game with no more DLC. This game has went from unplayable to the smoothest FPS, all with a little effort from the devs and feedback from the community that was not blatantly disregarded by DICE/EA.

Ed already basically said she is getting normalized(the unit normal post). It was cryptic but it was something. There you go.

Yep. Every month a new character was added, Kiets, the lead combat designer, and a small group of devs would get together on stream and go over all the basics of the new character after they went over all the patch notes, explaining every change and why they were changing it. Again, KI has only a fraction of the characters, but really if you look at it, NRS is only changing like 5 or 6 characters at a time, so I think it would be very reasonable to do.

If Paulo and a few others got together and explained what his process was for making changes, and answered questions from the community publicly, I think many people would be happy. But yeah, we get 2 guy not involved with the process, talking about a character they've had not much time with. And don't get me wrong, Derrick and Tyler seem cool, but they are talking heads for the people actually making decisions. They don't know the why behind things, and I think that is what many people in the competitive scene are looking for.

Isn't TylerLansdown our community specialist?

What has he actually done other than promote the game to generate sales and a bit of hype? He's made like 5 posts in the last 2 months and one of them was telling us stop trolling Truetalent LMAO.

No communication with us whatsoever regarding:

  • Online connectivity issues.... people waiting 5-15 minutes to connect to online or be connected to an opponent.
  • "Once we went hard lined, it was LITERALLY PERFECT".... online is a joke that nobody gets.
  • Incoming patches.... they just drop with no warning. Granted, last patch was decent but nobody knew about it until it hit.
  • Bugs.... just tag colt and hope for the best. For best chance of response, be Tom Brady.
  • Kombat Kast news.... usually find out from Ed Boon lol

See the thread "Connecting to online issues"
Posting this here too: @colt @tylerlansdown

Dear NRS,

As you guys know, tonight was an ESL night and because of this stupid bug my first opponent couldn't connect to your online infrastructure.
The guy hard reset his console more than once and he still couldn't connect, I even have video on my phone as proof. I feel really bad for the guy because in the end everything happened so fast, while he knew nothing about the situation with me and ESL (he got a loss without playing damnit).

I also lost my match against the next opponent, I was still pissed off about the whole situation and that messed with my mind. But that loss I'll take on me, as it was me that got fed up (even threw my controller away after, lol, and I almost never rage, at all)...

It is time you guys acknowledge this bug in public! I'm sure that we weren't the only ones experiencing this bs.
Please apologize to the other player as it is a mk related bug that cost him the match, he couldn't even play... It's not because these tournaments are free to enter that you can ignore these bugs and the players affected.

It's time to end the fucking trolling and become serious about this whole online situation imo, but that is just my opinion.
Judging from the symptoms players have with this bug, I conclude it is about the same bug that was present in MK9 (psn) online. I had the bug and it made MK9 online unplayable to this date - even the PSN DL edition didn't work anymore. I bought a 360 so I could play the game online again.

And yes, the conclusion I can make out of these situations, is that we are the dumb people that keep on buying the bs you guys try (and it works) to sell us. Maybe you guys should start in the pharmaceutical or weapon industry. Their big clients spend way more than us, the working people.

Anyway, thanks for making a chill night hectic as fuck!
Please respond to this thread for once, I don't even have the bug atm, it are other players that undergo the daily suffering...

Sincerely (lol)

I think the patching and communication at the end of the day is a privilege. Yes, the standard is to provide it, but the company is not obligated to do so. It annoys us, but that shouldn't be their primary concern.

When the community you serve cries and condemns you no matter what you do, why continue communicating with them? Just take the big money from casuals and move on. I'm a little upset I fell for their netcode shenanigans, but I don't blame them frankly.

How is extensive patching and developer silence an acceptable combination? Please just speak up.

Are you nerfing Tanya before EVO? What known bugs are you working on? Will Tremor's dialogue consist of rock-based puns? These questions aren't difficult to answer.

"She will be affected by the upcoming hotfix." "Breathing hitboxes are totally okay. Just learn the matchup." "Of coarse! Puns rock!"

This probably isn't worthy of its own thread, but I do think that this is a legitimate issue.

Edit: The example questions were only examples. Except the pun one. That's a serious question.
Lol what are you? NRS's manager? They don't owe you an explanation. It's only been four days since CEO. They are probably having internal meetings right now and design/brainstorming sessions to decide what the best way is to address Tanya and whatever other issues need addressed. Those things are not easy to fix, especially if you want them done the right way.

I agree and disagree with some comments but I will say I have not given up on this game just yet. The games only been out for a little over 2 months (feels like longer) but honestly there's still hope that I think the online will get better or they will at least improve it and I believe they are listening. Also still praying for fujin over here. Or at least a kombat pack 2 #NeverGiveUp

Oh yes, we could use some answers. Just to chill certain communities out. And yeah: #NeverGiveUp #KloneShouldStayOnBlock #StrangleHitboxes.

Then you'd be wrong. Practically every eSport talks with its community before patches, it's the only healthy way to do it. Even Blizzard who have all but given up on supporting Starcraft, takes the time out to talk to the community about changes and their decisions behind them.
I'll counter with DOTA 2, which receives a vast amount of updates while rarely informing people of the changes within and sometimes they don't even give all the notes within the patch. It's currently one of the largest competitive games in the World.

Dota 2 would be the exception to the rule. It's creator and current lead game designer IceFrog is so notoriously secretive and quiet that nobody even knows his real name, hell people don't even know 100% what country he is from. Explanations on patch notes would be like seeing a unicorn to its players, he's also notorious for changing characters in a much different way to what everyone asked for, but still doing an excellent job of fixing his issues - he knows his game very well and cares very much about it and it shows, he gets by like this. However, Dota is a much different game to MKX. MKX has much more similarities to Starcraft, requiring you learn complex strings of buttons, timings, muscle memory, twitch reactions and the like. Dota on the other hand, while the skill needed is undoubtably massive, each character has 4 buttons (usually), all on a cool down, with a visual timer, and the rest is basically universal skills, and a strong focus on team play and decision making. Last hitting, items, hell even special buttons, a lot of things are practically exactly the same between characters, of which there are like a hundred and fifty, meaning everyone has multiple options no matter what the result of a big patch.

Let me emphasise this with an example. Navi in The first Dota international. After winning the first few matches, the other team started to adapt and were face rolling them. Decider match, Dendi their team leader is on final hero pick, they decide they need an Enigma to play against the other teams heroes. He picks this hero, and leads his team to victory with a bunch of game deciding plays, WITH A HERO HE'D NEVER EVEN PLAYED BEFORE IN HIS LIFE, winning not just the round but a ONE MILLION DOLLAR PRIZE POOL.

Can you imagine that happening in Mortal Kombat? Some just being like hmmm, a million dollars on the round, well, I've never played played Kung Lao before in my life, I don't even know his combos, but I think he does well against Tanya so I'll just pick him up as I play! And actually be curbstomp successful doing it?! It's not even plausible! And let me tell you, the chances of that happening (however rare that may be) is about 100 times more likely than someone winning a game of Starcraft with a race they've never played!

NRS needs to talk to their competitive community if they actually want one. For games like Dota it's less punishing when a massive patch drops, for all the reasons I gave, and the fact that patching is much different. NRS changing timings on strings and frame data and shit, completely changing the optimal/possible combos for characters like DVorah and Scorp, sometimes even the game plan of the entire character. Dota usually just tweaks some damage or health numbers. Massive changes like Bloodseekers overhaul were announced WELL in advance and he was like the Goro of Dota, there was like no competitive repercussions but they still took time out. Also, they have a competitive mode called CaptainsMode used for all tourneys, where big changes have to wait a month or often longer before they even hit the tournament scene! There is really no comparison here at all.
For all the rest of games out there, they understand the significance and repercussions it can have on their competitive scene, which is exactly why they communicate.

Bugs.... just tag colt and hope for the best. For best chance of response, be Tom Brady.
This has got to be a joke. TB campaigned harder than anybody to get bugs fixes, made multiple threads, composed about half an hour of video footage spread throughout different threads explaining the issues... Patch drops, and Sub Zero was absolutely ignored, one of the few characters without changes.

If nrs listened to the the community on how to balance the game then tanya would have a leg removed and forced to use a broken pole as a cruch
