What Foxy said.... i could sit my ass on a chair and train Kung Lao for two weeks, and i'd probably couldn't come close to beat Sonic Fox, playing as Jason, or Kenshi..... :DOGE

.... also... DJT created a thread on TYM ?!

Its the player. Players like Saltface with his Mileena or Milky Situation with his Reptile (before whatever buffs he received) are proof of that.

But when I think about it, and I don't mean any disrespect, would a player like Dragon be that dope without Tanya? He may very well be dope with other characters I'm just using it as an example.
tanya is his char tha who he clicks with

Two weeks lol? Do people think it's that easy to learn Kung Lao? I'm like a below average online player, and someone who hasn't used Kung Lao, would need at least a month or two to acquire the execution I have, let alone Lord Foxy.

I understand that but my point was since the character is good, how much of it is really the player in that situation? Something most of us cannot really answer as in tournament settings players are going to go with the best and/or their best character. I'm not saying Tanya is carrying Dragon but Tanya could carry a decent player on lower levels of play. Also, at lower levels, it doesn't matter whom is used the better player comes out on top. On higher levels the characters give them the edge.

I honestly think it's 90% Player, 10% character. My reasoning for this is because you can traverse the whole cast of characters, play them at a competitive level, but if you, the player aren't 100% sound on your decisions, attitude and mental state, the character you choose won't matter, at least in the long run. You might get instant success but people will figure you out immediately and then you won't be able to advance in skill and will plateau in skill level. All this is personal opinion though, but it's just my personal observation on it.

What I don't understand is people trying to set blanket numbers -- it depends so much on the player/character you're talking about, and the numbers will be different for everyone depending on their level of skill and knowledge of the game.

I think that if you play a character, and you're not at least on par with the top-achieving player with that character, then you're a piece of human garbage who should kill themselves.

pretty much.... one week and a half, is to learn the "11212" string, and the rest, is to learn the other strings..... :DOGE

If someone told me 2+2=5 I wouldn't be upset, but the post would still be stupid.
It's also stupid to make a conclusion over things that were not said. For example it would be pretty stupid to say I didn't think SF took any skill or a brain if i said I preferred SF. Also what I said was A FACT. Infiltration does counterpick more than Alucard. If you disagree with that then you need to just give up spectating since you can't even do that right.

Before answering have any of the best players in MKX made a top 8 with a bottom tier character. The only one I can think of is salt face and when was the last time he made one ? No disrespect to anyone just saying you need good tools to be great for most people.
No

Edit: @Schuyler i made one at mwc

Double edit: @YOMI RM SaltFace how many top 8s have you gotten w only Mileena at majors and how many majors have you been to in Mkx

Triple edit @YOMI DJT @YOMI MITYEAP read this man post above, that kinda sums it up. Also take into account Reo, one of the most dominant forces in FGC for years w Kabal. Look what he did w kabal. Now look at him w jason, arguably the worst character in the game. 180 degree difference.

You guys wanna call that 20%?

Proof is there

It's more of a show of "effort" put in, in which my numbers were chosen than actual statistics. Pretty much you only need to put 10% effort into a character, where as yourself as a player, you need to work on a lot more.

IMO if the character takes still to play and she/he is low tier it's 80% player/20% character and if the character is top tier and takes skill to play it's 70/30 because they complement each other. If someone doesn't have the skill to play said character then it won't be a 100% gameplay.

If the character is top tier then I'd say 60/40 (except Tanya and Quan Chi, they are pretty braindead IMO. So I'd say it's 40 player/60 character and yes, I said it bitch!!)

If the character is low tier I'd say it's 75 player/25 character to make it work.

Again. I didn't have a problem with you saying he counter picks. I had a problem with you saying he needs favorable match ups or top tiers to win. He doesn't, he'd be one of the best players in the world with any character he plays. Just for an example when's the last time alucards Hugo won a major? Infiltration wins with other people's mains because he's better at the character than they are.

I never said he relies on counter-picks I said that he relies on counterpicks MORE than alucard. I didn't say anything of either's skill I merely stated that infiltration uses more characters and is therefore more likely to counterpick. I was drawing a comparison between two different players, one who "mains the whole roster" and one who is a character specialist for the most part. If you have a better comparison let me know and I will go back and edit my comment if that makes you feel any better.
