General/Other - Kano KANO IS LIKE, BOTTOM ZERO GUYS

Derptile

RIP Ex Smash
I know when I play my buddy who plays a LOT of FA jacqui, he is constantly using her walk speed to whiff punish strings, and it's really powerful and makes me respect her in the up close to mid range neutral game, where I normally wouldn't.
I didn't care about the rest of the post, but god bless at least one Jacqui player knows what footsies are.

Lemme guess, he does a F1 or even any stagger string, walk back, and then whiff punish with F12 if you attempt to counterpoke with a slow poke or string.

Dude just straight up reads me going for F4 knee lunge or 2F4 and walks out of the range while I'm executing it and punishes most of the time, but yeah he's great at baiting strings as well. I'd have to see F1 and F12 to know what it is, but I think he's been using that.

fuck tier lists, I wish people would just play like back in the day where you picked a character you liked, figure out how to best use their tools, and slaughter kids regardless of tiers.
I'm not sure how old you are, but the only difference between now and back in the day is in today's world we have the power to make changes we couldn't back then. I had recently entered my tournament life back in Tekken 4, and I experienced first hand for what felt like an eternity Jin Kazama against some of the best players in the country. He had 1 bad MU, 3 even ones, and dominated the rest of the cast.

Now why this matters is because if you just "play who you like", like Kuma, you have absolutely no chance against certain players. I remember all the massive amounts of bitching and salt from top players at the time, more than TYM can ever dream of, and after a while almost half of the players just started using him. If it was 2015 there's a 100% chance that Jin would have been nerfed due to all the outrage at the time.

So honestly I don't think anything is different at all. Back then, you had no choice but to deal with it. Today, people know patches adjust gameplay and push for the changes while the window is open for characters not as good as the Top or the High. Only difference is the era, not the people.

I guess it's just the rise of competitive gaming. It's so big now that people are much more likely to give a shit and clamor all over tier lists. I shouldn't really say "back in the day" 'cause youre right, it's always been pretty cut and dry in competitive scenes if there is a trash trash trash matchup, and I haven't really been around it for long enough to say how the landscape has changed or anything lol. I should just say that I like players who are just character loyalists over people who scour for who technically has the best, most obviously oppressive tools and plays them (IE "Tier whores") though at the end of the day, in a competitive setting what are you even doing if you aren't playing the "Top tiers" with the best tools, you're just limiting yourself.

Oh yea man. I remember wreckingggg Red in a T5 DR tournament and his pride was so hurt that he ran to TekkenZaibatsu forum and started saying how Wang was OP (wasn't even my main it was a MU switch because I wasn't comfortable using Bryan against Lei) and how noobs can pick him up and place at high tourneys within days. Then since it was "him" some people started trying to say Wang was OP and people hadn't realized it yet. That he was secret top tier, etc. Wang. Really? Lol! Instead of giving me props for tearing him up he was too ashamed and blamed the character, to his friends and then on the forum.

That was 10 years ago lol. Nothing has changed man. Nothing has changed.

I can't stand this type of behavior, and I'm relatively newer compared to many. I also have to add that now days they moan on social media on top of the old forums. And all their fuq boi's that follow them will parrot it because of who they are. It's actually rather irksome how much stock the FGC puts in "top players." What really does it for me vs. the above topic is the amount of people unable to form their own opinion because they're too lazy or dumb, or the worst of the worst is blind following of the group for purposes of preserving E-rep posterity.

Im just gonna say this... I will continue to main Kano #knifeboys... however, i honestly feel that he needs help in order to compete with the other top tier characters in this game.

This is how I feel on the matter as well. But because I voice my concerns I have apparently been lumped into the downplaying group or complainers/whiner category depending on who you talk to I'm sure.

i definitely feel kano is playable and not bottom tier, but just look at the top 10 characters and the dumb shit they have..... just isnt comparable to them.
Yeah, that's where plenty of us have been at. Some people think he needs less(Youph), some people think he needs more(Dave), but It's never been like people asked for the world here. I'm just happy that the Kano community has been largely respectful to each others opinions(Aside from the nuclear holocaust that is Salt Shaker vs Youphemism, and even that hasn't been all that vitriolic) while discussing what can and can't or should and shouldn't be done.

Youphemism

Gunslinger since pre patch (sh/out to The Farmer)
Not to interrupt, but what he said was not "could", it was can. It was "He can use a couple little buffs but nothing to crazy." This is literally exactly what a lot of us have been saying, that he can use a few buffs but nothing too crazy, which is why I agreed with him. Hell the Fixes+Buffs OP only suggest what, 5 buffs total across 3 variations? With stuff like increasing priority on pokeable Ball Specials or increasing EX Cyber Knives a few frames+ so it can't be armored and backdashed for full combo punishes like Lao's hat, Shinnok's skulls, Jax wave, etc etc? That sounds much more in line with Showtime's comment of "He can use a couple little buffs but nothing to crazy." than something like asking for 12f OH's, full armored active frames on EX Buff, and 17% Commando Air Grabs which is "kinda crazy".

Now some of us think he's low tier (me, Dave, Dribirut, etc) and some think he is still solid mid tier (Flappy, Showtime, you, etc). While we may disagree on the tier placement part, we almost unanimously agree that he needs a few smaller buffs (that still wouldn't make him Top 10 anyway), and nothing major to his character.
Who cares if it wouldn't make him top 10? Someone has to be mid tier, what's your problem with it being Kano? Why go the easy route of getting him buffed instead of just working on the matchups like Steve and Showtime and Flappy and I at least are doing? The thing that's making even less sense to me is why the majority of the people who've dropped the character for another are still complaining? They've made it clear they want to play other better/top tier characters yet somehow that isn't enough? What's the problem if you're not even playing him (most of the time anyway)? The Kanos that are sticking with him as a main are fine to do that because we think he's fine, he's not unviable or broken so what's the problem? Some of you want luxury buffs because it'd suit you and that's not a good enough reason. Fixes are fine, buffs aren't necessary because he doesn't lose every matchup and he isn't the worst in the game.
Tyrant's commando Kano looked pretty legit.
No it didn't, he doesn't play Commando Kano lol.

Well (and these are just a few examples) look at Kano's footsie tools compared to Raidens, Kano outshines him there. Kano can zone out/outzone D'Vorah and Jax pretty easily too. It's not about how many things the top tiers do better it's about what Kano can do that he does better than the top tiers. How he can control space well, how he has a great anti-air in a game where anti-airs are considered pretty shit in general, the damage he can do in Cutthroat and the stuff he can interrupt and punish with EX Buff into this damage, the armour-breaking zoning in Cybernetic, the 20% parries in Commando. So what if he's not the best character in the game? He works (mostly) and that should be enough, people shouldn't be relying on their character to win for them.

When you insinuate I think he needs less do you mean I think he should be nerfed or that you think I think he needs stuff but not as much as you guys are suggesting? And yes, Saltshaker and I, we cool ;)

Most people ARE fine with Kano being mid tier, Youphykis. I don't think I've seen a post that says otherwise. The argument has been where he is, not That he should be tippy top tier.

And less than the norm.

I don't mind Kano being mid tier, I just want him to be a permanently viable mid tier at worst. Not slipping down the ladder patch after patch. Not to go up against Top tiers and have to face uphill battles in the majority of the MU's. Not to be complacent with his current version until everyone masters MU's and sees how lesser his toolset is in comparison to so many cast members. It's true I don't play him nearly as much as before, but that's because I want to win, and Tanya is more suited for that. I want to play him more like I used to, but the time+reward is not on the same level as many other characters, so I had to make a decision. My main issue resides in if I can get destroyed against a Raptor's Takeda, and then switching to Tanya makes it competitive, there is a clear gap in the character.

Now while I've said I don't think he needs "huge buffs", I definitely think he needs "some buffs". He has already slid down with buffs to Kenshi, Kitana, Shinnok, etc. Imagine if Tremor is good (highly likely), and in the next couple of patches he goes untouched (again), while the Goro's and Jacqui's get buffs. Then what? Patches are over and he's bottom 5? In what possible scenario does this work out for Kano long term if he gets "nothing" in the way that Grundy did?

So why not nerf them and have more fair characters than making more characters broke tier?
Unless you think NRS is nerfing the Top 15 within the next couple of patches that's unrealistic. You can either hope to get brought up (the Kenshi's), be left alone (the Kano's), or get slight nerfs but still be top tier (the Raiden's).

One of these is not like the others. :coffee:

Apex Kano

Kano Commando main MKX
I just wish NRS actually buff weaker characters so everyone would be normalized. Having a tourney wih only top 5 fighters being used is no fun.

STB Sgt Reed

I'm just saying what would be a better option. I would rather have the top characters nerfed... than everyone else also being broken tier. Then the game is no fun fighting against any character.
