Question - Kitana Kitana after the Patch

"You play weird" It's called being unorthodox ;)
I would've thought the Kitana forum would be in upheaval after receiving 15 buffs in one patch. Pretty silent for the most part. Has the damage already been done and there's no Kitana main's left to celebrate?
Well, she got nice stuff and all. But I still would have traded ALL of that for an overhead starter. Of course, Rising Blades buff is great for wake ups, but that still doesn't fix anything, a good player won't fall for it...My guess on why you haven't seen all the noise you would have expected.

Don't get me wrong though, Kitana was always alright, so I'm not complaining.

WHAT?! She doesn't need an overhead starter, so many of her moves are now safe which makes her a footsie player. We don't need braindead gameplay for Kitana.

I don't know what you mean by staggering the string.
like instead of doing 212 all together... you do just 21 and then 21 again or go into something else. Trying to throw them off basically.

If you're having to slide the inputs... seems like stagger would be really hard. lol

Oh, sorry you quoted another conversation piece so I was confused. Give it a try when you can sliding the inputs is super easy and there is a "beat" in between where you can choose what to do next, although you have to think fast. The good news with this patch is if they block 21 is now SAFE and 212 can now connect into a fan toss, lots of options. Before it was really risky because she would just stand there backwards waiting to get bodied.

It's all so very confusing.
Super thrilled to see this.

I feel like nrs deserves some credit here, I feel like they have been very proactive in trying to bring the lower tier characters up to competitive levels.

I myself do not play the Princess and have no real desire to, but my 9yr old niece plays the crap out of Kitana, do she will love it, even if she has no idea what any of it means, ha.

What do you guys think 'new' Kitana's best variation is? Or are they all in the running?

Hell no... f2 being an overhead would be nice, but in the long run it would be useless and she would still be bottom tier. With the buffs she got, she is WAY safer and can actually press buttons now on top of having frame traps.

The wakeup Rising Blades is great because it makes your opponent think twice about attacking you which lets you get up for free. You can also use it as anti air because of the armor and you get a 30% combo just like Tanya used to get with EX Teleport!

This is amazing! Kitana is finally viable.

Assassin would be the best now, d1 into parry is awsome for those happy counter pokes, also parry is great vs rushers, she will be respected now.

Na Assassin still isn't as good as RS or Mournful. Parry being faster is good, especially since you can use mind games due to canceling into it, but the zoning/anti zoning RS offers and the versatility Mournful offers outshines Assassin.

What is it specifically about RS that you like better than assassin? Just the reflect? I don't find that anybody's zoning is strong enough to ever justify using it and I rarely need the extra distance that the fan lift offers. I much prefer having the armour from assassin strike.

Reflect is alot better than people think. Just having a reflect is good and gives zoners something to worry about. On top of the reflect, the lift is also a very good tool. Regular lift can be used to get combos not available in other variations, and can be used as a footsie, since it's safe at max range against most characters. Ex lift is a godsend, since it can allow for a full combo from full screen against other zoners. Even if it's blocked, it gives zoners something to worry about. And Ass is a much better go-to armor move than Assassin Strike. It's faster, has more active frames on the armor, can be done in the air, safer, leaves yout at full screen and is a HKD.

I'd assume it's the extra length of the fan lift lol

Yeah, all very good points. I think I just can't stand looking at her double chin.

She's always been viable. She was not a top character? That's for sure. I noticed many people just complained and asked for buffs instead of leveling up. All I asked for was an overhead. My Kitana was already looking really good, it's all about utilizing all the tools you have, and I know she didn't have much but what she had was alright. Now she's a lot better but still, all you have to do is block low against her 'cause no overhead.

Yes, I agree, she'd be braindead if she would have had an overhead along with all those buffs. What I said is something different though, so let me rephrase: I would take an overhead over all of those buffs any day(Not buff+OH). Way different.
