No Injustice/MvC3 tourney at NLBC due to low entrants - first time ever

At the risk of sounding a little sappy:

NLBC was the tourney made me realize the true potential of the local scene. I had heard about it in passing, but not checked it out until Injustice dropped. Then I caught wind of Chris G and Tom playing in Grand Finals, and I turned on the stream -- mind blown. 7000 viewers.. For a local? And in NY? It kind of opened my eyes to what was possible with the current amounts of fan interest and networks/orgs like teamsp00ky.

And having dedicated guys like Art and sp00ky around to do commentary adds to the experience.

An opportunity like that isn't something people have everywhere; so I really hope that any good players who can will continue to take advantage of it and keep IGAU at NL alive. I feel like you live in the house you build.. So hopefully people will keep building.

This is just my opinion. Nothing fact.

I think what made MK9 go on life support is that it is a really hard game.
The majority of the community was largely based on '09ers so to speak. So for a lot of people this was their first fighter. They were not used to the mentality of what us older fighters had to deal with. Which would be "suck it up" . A lot of the fighters I have played never received a single patch or any support. We just played the game and dealt with what we were given. The newer gen of the FGC does not have this mentality nor can they feel what we feel ( hahaha shang reference from mkls2 =P). They are more of a fix this for me or I quit mentality. Or they just don't play anymore and move on to something else as they are most likely not fighting game driven.

I know this is not the topic of the thread itself, but this has been brought up a lot. Just wanted to give my 3 cents.

As for INJ, I have 0 motivation to play it. I play with friends online when they ask me to, or the locals to help them level up. I will still support the game and the community till the end.

How could MK be a 09ers first game when it came out in 2011. And lol at MK being a hard game. And that fix it or i quit mentality is an NRS community problem not a FGC problem.

09ers is just a term used. It does not directly have to be the year the game came out.
Everyone knows what an 09er means.

Mk is hard, but like i mentioned that is my opinion. You dont think it is, that is yours.

The fix it or quit it mentality is not a NRS community issue, it is an 09er issue.
I have seen this take place in other games that are not nrs games.

MK9 was a hard game? lol. Neither Injustice nor MK9 were any hard. Don't kid yourself.

And yeah, it's an NRS thing. I never cry for patches or fixes and I'm from the capcom community.

(Kinda quoted the wrong post, but yeah this dude is right)

MK being hard is flat out wrong. Its a fact its probably the easiest tournament level fighting game to play . No its not an 09er issue its a NRS issue nobody quit SF4 because sagat or rufus werent nerfed between vanilla and super. Nobodies quitting MVC3 cause of morridom or vergil. NRS is the only developer patching there game every few weeks.

INJ is a lot easier then MK. But that is also just an opinion. You believing MK is the easiest is also just an opinion. There are no facts on which game is easiest. Ssbb could be a game people could say is the easiest. Many arguments could be made for a lot of games. Point being, there is no way to prove which game is easiest.

There have been a lot of 09ers to quit both games that you have mentioned. However capcom has a much larger base of players then we do. So when a lot of them drop off, it is not something that is noticed. I have seen it happen in my city with those two games, I have seen it happen to Toronto as well as other cities.

Point being that the newest base of players quit games pretty fast and they made up a larger population in our community then in other communities.

Im sorry but you are wrong. Do a poll of the fgc with the 8 games at evo this year of which game is easiest injustice and mk have the most votes by a landslide. Again you are wrong anyone who quit sf4 or mvc3 did so cause they arent true fighting game fans. The same names i see at tourneys in 09 for sf4 i still see in 2013 hell most are even playing the same characters. Hell the majority of the best fighting game players in the world are "09ers"

Doing a poll with the entire FGC asking about MK is suicide. I will get such a biased answer. We are hugely out numbered anyway.

Most 09ers = arent true fighting game fans.

The poll wouldnt be about mk it would list all 8 games and the entire fgc voting. Saying most 09ers arent true fighting game fans is a laughable statement, you do realize the overwhelming majority of todays FGC is 09ers right? The overwhelming majority of the NRS community is 11ers.

Lol the MK players here seriously make me laugh. MK was not that great, I came for injustice, and once its done im out. Injustice brought over a lot more capcom players then MK ever did, i know everyone here wants to make it seem like it was a gold mine, but lets be real it wasn't. Game was dead in what two years? I doubt the MK 10 community will be any different, especially if it has to compete with another fighting game.

Before someone else with a much bigger chip on their shoulder comes along, I've never played an MK game either - but let's be real, as you say, and think about Capcom's own track record. They've had a pile of games with very serious problems over their history, and their hits versus misses is arguably no better than any other company that's produced a large number of fighters. I was once naive enough to tilt at the idea that being a "capcom player" meant being of higher standing or more refined taste than these "lesser" communities around Mortal Kombat or the like, but it was a foolish, pathetic mistake. MK9 isn't perfect. Wanna see how it stacks up against SFA1?

"Capcom player" was only used to identify the fact that this game brought in a different community, it has nothing to do with actual "capcom players" or "capcom" games. This has nothing to do with me thinking capcom games are better then nrs games because i dislike MK, but love injustice. You took my post the wrong way.
It was suppose to get the point across that although people who originated in the MK community think its better then injustice a lot of people outside that community who would naturally have a strong bias think otherwise.

It is that good to us. Game isn't dead yet. Hell, you're talking about a community that still plays UMK3 at tournies after what 15 years? Name me one Capcom game that has a following like that. Yes, each different version of each game counts as a separate game.

By the by, just (1f) inputs and freaky controller motions don't make a game hard. They just make a game frustrating.

Mvc2 literally about to have a huge tourney in a couple weeks way bigger than anything UMK3 related. SSF2T was at fucking evo and that 1 game had 4 different tournaments. At least have a clue if you are gonna talk shit.

I do have a clue and knew about both of those. But those are singular events whereas UMK3 especially has been actively supported since release.

That is one thing NRS outstands other developers... except for the d,b,f motion, that just suck.

The same venue who is hosting the dreamcast mvc2 tourney had an arcade cabinet one not that long ago. Capcom has multiple decade old games still being supported. These are actual big tournaments to not 8 man ones at some dudes house.

Cabinets in an arcade collecting dust don't count as being supported. UMK3 was played in arcades.
