I want to know everyone's honest opinion. I've seen X and Y characters get labeled "not good" over the week and the most popular reasoning was because "they don't have a 50/50". Personally, I think a character can be great without needing a good 50/50. However, I will say that I DO believe that 50/50s are usually the easiest tools to search for and exploit early into the game without requiring much practice. Some of the dominate tools that may fall into the category of spacing, zoning, footsies, conditioning, etc. etc. you will most likely not see developed until later into the game through finesse. This is why I think 50/50s are always the culprit in to impulsively determining if a character is effective or not early on. Let us not forget that Killer Frost had one of the best 50/50s ever put into a NRS game, and she was considered to not be one of the best characters. (Injustice Example)

What do you guys think?

No because its whether or not the 50/50 leads into anything good, the conditions in which you can pull it off, and the characters inherent tools that strengthen those tools.

Silly @R.E.O. making such inflammatory threads to incite debate. I'm onto you.

No 50/50 is required for a character to be good. However, nearly the whole cast has a 50/50 so why not give it to everyone is the bigger question.

I don't think that a character needs a 50/50 to be good. It's just way too early in the games life to start asking for buff's and nerfs.

I really hope this community will calm itself and spend time learning ALL the ins and outs of their characters before claiming that a character is bad.

Staph REO. you are stoking the fire that we have been trying to put out for the last week lol.
We should have just a little bit more faith in what REO is doing.

What if he is trying to gauge out our intelligence by seeing what we think 50/50s are and what makes them good.

DON'T YOU SEE ITS ALL PLANNED.

EDIT:

Quan is bottom 1 even though he has a 50/50. Missing the point here.
Quan's ridonculous. Don't make me ban you with a hammer or something

It's hard to say because the game has been out for a grand total of 8 days, but you'd think the game had been out 8 months with how people are whining. Remember when Jax was #1 everyone? Give me a break lol.

BIG PUSHER
The characters that people think are bad usually have worse problems than no 50/50

I really don't like that some things are absurdly easy to punish when they don't lead into anything on their own, the frame data is kinda head-scratchy in my opinion

What is going on guys, Ya Boi Zyphox here.
a character doesn't need a 50/50 to be good, but maybe needs one to be great.......jk i don't know with this game yet, its too early, even though some characters are glaringly weak or strong the meta changes all the time we shall see by Combo breaker what works and what doesn't.

Man, I just want to say the number one thing I'm most frightened about in this game is Kung Lao's spin in Tempest. He doesn't have any good 50/50s yet I think he is a character that will be one of the toughest to get around especially in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing. The way I plan to fight him is completely different than how I would fight any other character, lol.

My guess is yes. If you lack a 50/50 that leads into good damage in this game then you won't be top tier. In a game where you have a block button to prevent crossups, 50/50 into combo is the best tool for outright winning.

but he's a high risk low reward character with no mixups :(

When was Jax ever 'number 1'?
Any tier list you'll see at this point is confirmed garbage.

Not at all. A character can be good because of a 50/50, spacing tools, gimmicks, armor, high damage, mobility, frame advantage on pokes, or any combination of these things.

MK9 Cage, Lao, Kabal, Kenshi had them, but they didn't need them to win. There's also different 50s. Cage's low was minus on hit, so it wasn't even worth using.
