Spin is probably the best counter to Liu Kang pressure in the game imo. Really takes advantage of those frame gaps.
Liu can still block spin between strings. Plus IAFB's really seem to give Lao trouble.

Well yeah so can everyone. The point is that you never know when. Just by putting you in a guessing game, and having the stakes (full combo punish) be bigger than other characters, is enough to make a Liu player hesitate. If they think im going to spin and block, i can pressure. If they dont expect a spin i can spin. Plus KL 2 beats everything but your d3. Kung Lao limits alot of option Liu Kang normally has and this is enough to tip the scales.

Plus KL can teleport between IAFB with good timing.

21 is better IMO. One of KL's strongest attributes is that he is tied for the second fastest jab in the game, but unlike Sonya, his jab has so much range that it is arguably the best punish normal in the game, as well as being a powerful pressure interrupt. And it's safe.

If 24 want stance specific, KL would be so dumb even with his nerfs.

what is the cyrax matchup? and does anybody know how to blow up that stupid thriller MJ jump move he does on wakeup?
You can spin it on reaction, but its not that big of a framewindow and he might be still invincible if you dont space it well.
I would play it safe and pressure him with 21 after he lands.
You really dont want to eat >70% damage.

But i need advice against Cyrax as well.
KL Pros! Whats ur general Strategie vs Cyrax other than not jumping and not getting caught in a net?

what i have been doing is jumpkick dive kick over them and if they try to wakeup with that move they will get hit witha 30%+ combo.

I believe cyrax is a bad matchup for kung lao, hejust has too many options and damage to counter kung lao's riskyness.

imo cyrax - kl is 5-5, tele the net on reaction is not so hard. i would say this is almost in KL favour, however the super duper high damage punishes and resets mean KL must play a perfect game with no mistakes at all.

no you dont know whats coming out of his chest until its too late it might be a bomb and his anti air grab has invincibility over what you do. You dont want to teleport in this matchup and cyrax's hitbox is pretty small too.

I dont like interrupting things with Spin unless its an absolute must.
I prefer 21~Spin over naked Spin any day for safety.

For Liu Kang, naked Spin is probably the best option.

you use spin when they poke, unless it is as neutral crouch move, there is no reason to use spin above 21. except for like sektors standing 1 but I dont spin that anyway because I just duck and d4/uppercut that.
 
so how exactly do u play the cyrax matchup?
Im not going to say I blow cyrax up, because to real good cyrax players I lose more than I win.

But I can tell you things I do that work with me and things that are not recommended:

throwing hats at any range but fullscreen is not recommended. trhowing hats from full screen is pretty affective against cyrax.

I like the 21/24/24 overhead in this matchup. any pressure you do against cyrax has to be safe because he punishes hard. f2 should not be used in this matchup because a random net will fuck you up and you stay pretty long in the same position making yourself vulnerable to bombs as well.

What I do is I play the zoning game full screen until I get at least almost 2 bars then I get in. when youre avoiding the bombs and nets and you think he is going to get you ex teleport to guarantee your safety and just start pressure. You want to chip cyrax as much as possible to get meter and to not give him any meter while doing damage at the same time. also you can blow up that jump he does on wakeup by jumpkick divekicking over him on wakeup, just go to training mode and the timing is easy to figure out after a few tries.

is this because Pl lost to 16 bit? if so you didnt count in all the punishes he could do from d1 cutter. the matchup is more in favor of kitana but not enough to be a 6-4 imo.

BTW Sage once said I was delusional for saying it and now it's aparently obvious.

No one ever listens to my kitana mu numbers. :rolleyes:
