Stage transitions can be initiated from anywhere on screen right?

Or am I looking at the videos wrong? Can they only be initiated when in the corner? WOuld really suck if it can be done from anywhere on the screen cause it eliminates stage awareness altogether.

Depends on the stage, but most seem to be corner only.
