Question - Tempest How exactly do I fight Lao?

I know I may receive some backlash from the community for this, but I truly don't know how to fight Lao! It's not really his pressure, but the fact when I'm in the corner I can't move. As a Kitana main, I can't float against him on wake up, and my overheads almost always get blocked, so the mix-up element is gone. I just finished running a set against a Lao, and I went 7-8 while using mournful for 5 wins, I couldn't even use RS. He also abused his teleport, and I definitely didn't know the MU. It was really bad, anyway sorry for ranting. Is their anyway I could better my knowledge and train for this MU? If so please educate me.

Fans.

No seriously. Fan shut down one mode of mobility (jumping) and an imposing ranged tool (ji2).
She can also punish teleports on reaction. Hard.
I'd even argue Royal Storm beats Tempest 6-4. For all of Lao's S-tier tools, he lacks in a decent walk speed.
EXRising Fan is unsafe, but a reliable anti-air and a nice move to let him know to keep blocking after your strings. If the Lao is still desperate, trip guard with f2 or b3.

I get you're frustrated. Sometimes it turns out you knew the solution the whole time, but your mind just wasn't clear during the set. Happens to everyone. Don't focus on what you did wrong, only think of what you could do next time.

Fighting a good Tempest Lao (I assume you're talking about Tempest) is hard, no matter the character. You'll have to make very good reads and know when to poke out to beat Lao's pressure.

In one of PL's streams he did say something interesting. Lao's main 'weakness' is his spin and EX-spin are very unsafe, so you have to put Kung Lao in situations where you can force a spin. So you could bait it out by using a string that has a gap, but stopping the move before the actual gap. Think doing Raiden's F12B2, but only doing F12 to bait out a reversal spin.

But yeah besides that, there's not too much major anti-Lao stuff to work with.

If you were afraid of backlash you should have posted this on kitanas forms not lao's. She def is a bad Mu for him, I don"t honestly even remember losing to a lao in like .. I dont even know.

watch some of sonic fox or kit prime replays

Spend a day learning how to play Lao for yourself. It will help you understand him better. Also for the teleport you can just d1xxfan on reaction or something similar I don't really know max damage combos with kitana.

Because kitana mains aren't Lao mains? Probably
That's actually exactly the reason, I'm asking a bunch of Lao specialists the MU question. This wasn't a Kitana Vs Lao MU thread it was me explaining my struggles in the matchup. Hell I even struggle in the Tanya Vs Lao MU,that's what I mean though I just don't know how to fight him in general

you just said you dont know kit combos, we know the match up........I..I dont ... lao forms should be asking how to beat kit....and OP should be hey how do you guys beat lao
The thing about that is, these guys specialize in Lao, I'd make more sense for them to be advising me. And this was also just a general, "How to fight Lao thread" Not a "How to fight Lao with Kitana" Kitana just happens to be my main and I was explaining the struggles I have with her in the MU.

Focus on staggers instead of overheads and floats. Stagger to grab, stagger to string, and of course just stagger and block to bait out spins.

D1 into full combo when Lao teleports.

Respect the orbiting hat set ups in the corner. If Lao becomes predictable with his grabs, duck the grab and punish for a full combo. Never tech. Make Lao's scared to grab. Teching does not do that.

If you could escape pressure with a full combo without risk, there would be no point in playing. amirite?
yeah sure, Lao has to take risks himself trying to counterpoke.

but that's the beauty of him, i'll grab the shit out of you just to make you let go hold block, and blow you up :)

Spammer. Crouch walk hater.
Just play with Kung Lao versus Kitana very hard AI and see where it fucks you over while you do your pressure.

Usually you get armored through hat and string gaps, and get full comboed on - strings.
