Hey there, long time MK fan who is getting a PS4 for Christmas. I'm thinking about picking up MKX, but due to being so many months behind, I'm a bit hesitant. I'm also a character loyalist who has been using Sub-Zero since the MK2 days. With that said, I am willing to use someone else to cover bad match ups(this was a necessity in MK Deception and other games), so I have a few questions.
1. What is Sub-Zero's current standing in the game? Top 10 character? Top 20? Average at best?
2. With the amount of time this game gets updated, I'm assuming Sub will get touched up. Is it trending towards him being nerfed or buffed?
3. How numerous are Sub-Zero's bad match ups? Which are universally agreed upon to be bad? Due to the nature of his clone, characters who can teleport and punish as well as characters who are zone-oriented and can pester him with projectiles without needing to approach his clone, have given him problems. Is that the same in this game?
4. What character would you say best covers Sub-Zero's bad match ups?
Thanks guys.
It won't take you long to learn Sub Zero. He's still a very basic character. Grandmaster is obviously for you, with Cryomancer being a far second.
1. He's really good. Clone has no cooldown, unless blocked.
- His ex clone works like his clone in MKD. You can catch people running in on it, or on wakeup. it has armor, and be used to string together combos (F4~ex clone, run up, opponent is still stunned from f4, free combo. plus ex clone stays active for longer) Can also use b12 ex clone for massive damage.
- once you get people in the corner, you can lay the clone down, then do shatter combos, like b33 db1, d1, b12 clone. However you cannot do this from an ex clone. make sure you back away a tad before laying down the clone, or else the shatter will be too close, thus dropping your combo.
-f4 looks a lot like Dragon b4, but isn't a low. it has great range to punish and set up clones off block, or ex clone for pressure (f4, ex clone, run up, pressure).
-b33 is a great low starter that can be combo'd into freeze ball. f42 can be linked into ex freeze.
-f3 is a high low starter that is deceptively fast. use it.
-after you set up a clone, you can throw people into it. this is great pressure, and what i use instead of shatter combos. 50/50's into clone. jab, low, throw
-12 is a high low string, which is pretty good. it pushes back pretty far on block if i recall. also has 123. or 11
- he has a unique string in cryomancer: 111. which you can link a regular freeze off of for good damage.
there's a lot, but i'll leave the rest to you. you know you can come to me if you have any questions. hope we can get a game vs each other...
2. neither. but i personally believe the clone should have cooldown.
3. yes, it is the same in this game. have a secondary for your bad matchups. i would suggest dvorah, kung lao, tanya, shinnok/quan, just to name a few.
4. i would suggest dvorah, kung lao, tanya, shinnok/quan, just to name a few.
best of luck to you, man. you deserve all the respect in the world, from my eyes. thanks for always being a true friend, and a true supporter. hope this helps out somewhat. i don't get to play often.....
