So to shed some new light on this thread/topic:
My local has done two tournaments using a 60 second timer as opposed to the regular 90 second timer. Not once in ANY of the matches to my knowledge has there been an instance of a possible timeout. My conclusion?
Why not?
Why not use a 60 second timer instead of a 90 second timer when they both result in a time out not likely to happen? At least with the 60 second timer, it's plausible, just highly unlikely. To be honest, there should be an option to have an in-game timer of 50 seconds for time outs to be a possibility but 60 seconds in the best we can do. 30 seconds is much too short.
For those of you that aren't aware, the in game seconds are not equivalent to real time seconds. They are as follows:
90 seconds in game equals 150 real seconds (2 minutes 30 seconds)
60 seconds in game equals 100 real seconds (1 minute 40 seconds)
30 seconds in game equals 50 real seconds
Here is match footage from my two local tournaments using the 60 second timer.
And on a side note, I've also played a lengthy amount of casuals both with my bro and players from my local scene for well over 10 hours using a 60 second timer and we still haven't encountered a timeout to my knowledge.
