Tech Using Mercury Storm for special punishes

Idk if this is known or not but I have not seen any mentions or examples of this so I decided to make a thread.
Shazam's mercury storm (his teleport) has quiet a few invincibility frames towards the end of its duration which results in Shazam psuedo-blocking an opponent's attack without sustaining block stun. For those from MK9 think of Cyrax's tele on start up.
What this means is that he can use his tele to get special punishes on certain moves that would otherwise be safe on block( bane's charge) or bait and punish wake up attempts that would be safe on block while staying relatively safe himself.
Here are some examples:
There are many more example of these specially on wake up. In fact, Shazam can do this on Deathstroke's wake up and be able to beat all his wake up options for a punish. Let me know what you guys think of this. Thx

This is awesome. I have used it for okie.
that invincible frames are pretty impossible to time on purpose for a punish but when it happens you basically get a free whiff punish.
I told everyone about the invincible frames in the Shazam general discussion forum but some scrub said that he doesn't. Instead of proving it I decided to punish the community for their ignorance. That person was Funkpanda. way to open your mouth.
Shazam's teleport has no super armor at any point during it's animation......
good times :)

From my exp, I have found it pretty easy to time the inv frames on my opponent's wake up and against moves such as Bane's charge. It takes a bit of practice but very easy to do. I can punish Bane's charge every time using this.

It could also be used in this way as well.
If you find yourself being heavily zoned by certain characters, you can use the inv frames on the tele to block the projectile and get extra dash in as well before your opponent can throw out his next projectile. You get the drop on your opponent very quickly and even get a punish on their zoning attempt. Here is an example.

Nice. Its always good to have options, if you can time them well (and they are smart and start respecting the move) you can start creating mind games :)

Nice post. I've been using this a lot actually. I had like a 40 game set vs King Roosta on my stream the other night where I was using this against Bane's charge a lot.

Be careful though, I think that if you tele through certain projectiles, such as GL's straight missile, he can still meter burn it and the explosion will count as if you blocked it.

Im loving him more and more, i was trying to see if this was possible but every time i did a teleport i was usually to far away. This is good.

using teleport as a wakeup counter = mind blown.
an actual option after HM...
@killa_solid Thank you so much!

edit: this should be a Breakthrough thread, imo.

Lol. Sorry you got butthurt on an internet forum when someone disagreed with your opinion and attempted to prove it.

Your definition of "armor" is not what it generally is in fighting games. Armor - in general fighting game terms - exists when a character takes an opposing characters attack without receiving hit stun, allowing him to retaliate sooner. Even in these video's, Shazam(outside of the Bane video, which I'll mention in a second) clearly teleports through the attack. That is not "armor" - his character hit-box completely avoids collision with the opponent's attack.

But, based on your statements, I guess every teleport in MVC3 has armor. Who coulda guessed!?

Now - concerning what happened with Bane in that video is a mystery. The only explanation that I have, is that the tail end of Shazam's teleport collides behind Bane during his animation while he was blocking mid-teleport. Which is buggy and doesn't make sense. If you watched the video I made - I showed that Shazam can be punished during the final frames of his teleport.

You tell me, kind sir, after watching these videos by killa_solid - If Shazam has "armor" during the end of his teleport - wouldn't that make it completely safe? Don't you think that is kind of ridiculous?
Now - I WILL grant that the teleport may work differently vs different projectiles/specials/normals. I can't say seeing as how I haven't tested everything. But what you are insinuating, good bro MashPotatoTower, is that Shazam has a non-punishable teleport because of some "armor" he doesn't have.

Also, please don't tag people in posts if you're looking to be an asshole.

It's not armor, it's invincibility. The invincibility is not for the end of the tele, just few of the last frames before the tele ends. The tele itself has recovery frames.
In the videos I made he doesnt phase through the moves, he actually makes the moves hit an invisible wall causing the opponent to be put into recovery animation as if their move was blocked giving shazam time to punish without being put into block stun animation himself. Try it in the lab and you will see. You just got time it correctly.

I got no time for whining!!!
Shazam is not the only character with this "invinciblity" outside of wakeup attacks. Other characters have it as well. It basically absorbs all attcks and you get dealt no damage even from stage interactions. It has a small window of oppurtunity for it to be effective though and that is the downside to it.

Good Game :)
Wait I still don't quite understand...So if you go through a projectile or special move with shazam's teleport, it puts the opponent on recovery frames as if it was blocked? How exactly do you do this? Do you just teleport through a projectile while blocking(holding back)?

Guys this is a lingering property from mk9 teleports. Cyrax had the same property his tele. Basically any advancing special that involves the character advancing forward will be neutralized, having the same effects as if it were blocked. Test it out with something like ds swordflip or kf slide and see what you find

I still don't understand how this works? can someone break it down a little more? I'm guessing you just teleport through bane's charge and punish from behind?

Try it in practice mode to get a better understanding. What you are aiming to do is to make the ending frames of Shazam's tele to collide with your opponents move. If you phase through bane completely without him stopping, you missed time it and won't be able to punish.

Ok but do I need another Human for this or can I set the CPU to wake up bane charge?

I seen your punish for Deathstrokes swordspin and it looks like you simply teleported through him to avoid his wake up, that's why I though you did the same with Bane.
