Do players know what they actually want in MKX?

I really don't care if I suck at the game or if I play a shitty character; in fact picking up shitters is always fun for goofing around. That doesn't change the fact that a luck-based rather than skill-based game is bullshit. Look at other competitive scenes: competitive Pokemon leagues outright ban luck-based moves and mechanics. Their reasoning? Word-for-word, "it prevents the development of the meta-game." Competitive Smash players ban luck-based elements like random stage events and items. It says a lot about our community when we're telling people to "level up" against coin flips when other more established communities eradicated this bullshit a long time ago.

By luck I assume guessing heads or tails... by that I agree. It's ok for strings that don't combo IMO but way too much reliance on these combo able mixup strings can get frustrating... especially, as mentioned, when online makes even the RIGHT guesses unpunishable.

Ok,

Here's my stance:

I don't trust MOST "tournament players" would be impartial to the entire cast. There are a few that would be, but the vast majority would want an OP top tier character that they have always loved. I Don't even know if I could sit and let mileena have no OH/low combo starter myself lol or Kenshi for that matter. I also know Kenshi is OP in other areas of his game which make him shine mid screen and punishes.

Listen, I'm a Mileena and kenshi player. Both characters have more bad traits than good... but you work with what you have and I have a strong record to show it is possible. I always play with high level opponents on and off stream. It is possible FGC to make a bad character good... lab the MU'S and you'll find there's more than just the lost of combo strings.

Anyway... dude, love all the responses. Keep this thing going.
I don't think Kenshi is weak anymore. Been playing him for a week and already been beating friends that have been playing their mains day one.

There's a reason YOMI has him on top8 tier list.

I love Kenshi and yes he got an excellent buff a patch or two ago. I've Maine kenshi since day one, and back then I knew he was bad. People just didn't know the strings or matchup yet. I eventually had to put him down and when those buffs came... so did I

Not even offline are some 50/50s punishable. I also agree with @Tom Brady that there needs to be more risk/reward balance in this game; moves that are objectively "good" should not be safe or advantage on block or whiff.

You got YouTube account? I wanna see your games, maybe ill just watch your archives from your streams.

Ive notice you can d1 db1 cross ups.
What pokes do you use up close? D1 seems to be his best poke.

What advices would you give to a new Kenshi player?

Agreed about almost everything but 2 things.

1. AAs are weak and jump attacks have too much priority. The footsie game looks a lot smarter with less jumps and more back and forward baiting etc.
Also as its right now its just too hard to whiff punish strings by walking back, reduce active frames and buff back walk.

2. D2s could be 2-3 faster but more punishable on block or whiff that would make them not "spamable". (God i hate that word)

If they only did this, MKX would be perfect, at least to me.
In general I'm all for more footsies, though I don't have a problem with jump ins / AA. Buff back walk sounds good,
Overall I really like the game the way it is, only the 50/50s keep frustrating me from time to time. Safe 50/50s are outright stupid. I'm not interested in playing roulette

Wetdoba

All too easy...
Most people when you talk to them about the game say they want a balanced game where all the variations are viable as options that cover the weakness of their other variations. but then you watch tournaments and people just pick the new cheapest easy mode variations with each patch and then cuounter pick with another top tier instead of another variation of their own character or see people complain about the lack of anti air options and then cry about their braindead Tanya teleports being nerfed and then realize that no people don't know what they want out of these

Desperdicio

Tell me, do you bleed?
I want a game where I can reach a good level with a certain character and still be sure that he's not going to be patched if I beat too many people online, or if someone makes Top 8 at a tournament with him. No recognition whatsoever, and the dishonest claim that their character was broken, is all people get for being good at this game. My complaint is against the community of competitive players; not against NRS.

Stand Back I'm a Doctor!!!!!!
Ive never had a problem with he meta of the game. Ive always had a problem with the community. So many opinions that are undervalued, just as one's that carry too much value. No one wants a mindless competitive scene, at least I know I dont. We definitely cant please everyone because a lot of what people want is unfair, and in some cases, they already have and dont even know it. Too much of this game is blamed on NRS and not on the growth of the players. I play to be efficient and optimal in my gameplay. I experiment and try to find a use for everything my character has. I hate looking at threads where players suggest tech for a character, just to have it shot down because another person cant find it useful in their gameplan. Later down the road, this tech is showcased in a tournament and what do you know, It's what everyone is copying now. Personally to me its disgusting. It shows a level of shortsightedness, and an inability to look beyond what you already know. Everything is judged before it is completely explored.

Everyone wants the glitches and bugs fixed in the game.
But hey the only way to truly teach someone is to show them and even then, they still might not learn.

I agree 100%. I'm sure there are some that would still want Kung Lao buffs LOL.

Mileena has to take risks to open up her damage flow, though I will say Ethereal is a decently defensive/anti zoning style now with the buffs it got. I like that it plays much differently from the other variations.

Ethereal is the reason I tried Mileena... I eventually stuck to piercing just for the combo damage and to anti zone I usually try to read or bait then do her tele to air sai. I'd love ethereal to be a little more practical though. I'm not complaining though. If she just had a low Sai or her piercing b21 24 ender I'd be totally fine.

Yeah there are so many who want scorp, Lao, and sub buffs but they need to understand that NRS is trying to make it relatively a level playing field I think. We don't want S+++++ tier kabal again lol

First off, which variation?

If balanced: WAIT for your opponent to make a mistake. Be patient. Your time WILL come. His armor is also pretty badass.

If Kenjutsu: mix your game up well. I picked up kenjutsu just so I could keep up with opponents mixups. In kenjutsu he has b2 OH (comboable), f2 (not comboable and slow start up), and the infamous b32 low starter. Kenjutsu specials are all unsafe so be wise with them. He's got df1 OH juggle if enh, and his bf2 even when blocked causes a Great pushback to give room.

I've done a Mileena combo vid to relatively high success, perhaps I should do a kenshi as well. I didn't know Kenshi was as "popular" as these forums state cause I never fight any.

YouTube is: www.youtube.com/soullaceguitar or just search channels for Mr. Echo

Twitch is in my handle here twitch.tv/aqueous_echo and yes there are VOD on my twitch but VOD only works via pc for twitch for some reason.

Also d1 is incredibly badass but so is his d4. I use d4 more than d1  a good practice is to use d4 to create space and d1 to get a free crossover. At least it's been successful for me.

His best footsies are really b32, 421, 44, 4d4, and 34 in some cases. Of course opponents against a balanced player will always block low, why shouldn't they he has no OH except to end strings so... use db4b to keep them honest during pressure.

Using a mix of 421, 44, and 4d4 is a good way to get your opponent honest though. If u use say 44 to punish and get a moderate damage combo, eventually they catch on... but if u then use 421 rk more than likely they thought you were going to use 44 so they'll end blocking at 2 hits and you'll be able to punish them

Online Punching Bag
-I want something where reading the opponent and countering mean something, not overhead or low starter guessing games that lead to full combos.
-having characters be high risk, high reward, instead of doing the same thing that's pretty safe until it works still for high rewards. If you screw up you should pay for it.
-good netcode so all these moves don't actually need balancing to make them realistic to beat online.

Resolution through knowledge and resolve.
Watch this gif a few times, then tell me - which attack is the real one?

Its obviously not the cloak, so just say which leg.

There's only one real attack. It looks like three, but only one need be defended.

If I asked you the same thing with MK characters, you would know because you've been conditioned to know.

So, attacks like these in MK are useless in high level play - unless they are made to work unrealistically.

Now, assess the unrealistic moves in MK and start there.

MK is a unique fighter in that it gave some fighters all the tools you need - while giving others overpowered tools, but limiting their variety.

So, which part of the cast wins out in theory under this premise? We know now its overpowered tools.

Also, what is more powerful - powerful zoning tools and punishes or running and great 50-50's? We know this now to be the latter.

What is left to know now is just the matchups - and tweaking them exchange by exchange is a painstaking undertaking.

So, lets go to the court of public opinion first. Then, doing it scientifically will be made easier.

My point is be patient, but keep weighing in.

I am completely satisfied with MKX. If it was up to me the roster might be a little different, and maybe some more (or different) stages but that's small stuff to me, its hard for me to complain when I have (and still do) enjoy playing the game so much.

I'm loving the game even though I don't have much time to sink into it like I had hoped. It's fun playing around with the different characters and finding a main.

Some stages would be nice, I must say. I could almost bet anything there will be stage dlc or stages included in something in the future

Less 50/50 bullshit but we all know that's only going to increase when predator and tremor make their ways into the game
