Zyphox

What is going on guys, Ya Boi Zyphox here.
This to me is the most toxic of all attitudes. It's honestly sickening. It reminds me of my 14 (young and prepubescent) year old self in 2009, as a beginning Rose player in SF4.

And this is my good transition to why I think the NRS community cannot advance unless they get over it.

So in 2009, I was a Rose player that only played online because I was 14 and couldn't go to local tournament let alone travel. I had a high online Rose rank though and people who played me online thought I was the best, but of course, Luffy (2014 EVO champion) was winning all the french tournaments and beating Daigo and was regarded as the best Rose, as he is. I simply refused to let it rock and I argued about the being the best Rose player, even when I had little results. As time passed, I got more and more results, and I still argued myself the best while Luffy was still winning the french tournaments. I hid all my tech and I had a lot of sick shit with Rose orbs that no other Rose did or knew and I didn't share with anyone because I wanted to only use to it myself. That's even more toxic, because our character couldn't advance and all the Rose players were not in good standing with one another.

But one day, I realized that being friends with the other Rose players and being friends with Luffy (we talk strats all the time) is the best, and it doesn't matter who is better, because we both benefit from the mutual relationship, he shares tactics with me and I share tactics with him. He WON EVO, I got 13th. It doesn't take anything away from me that he won, and my placing is nothing to scoff at. I'm still one of the best players in North America and he just got me that one tournament. We don't care who is better, we just get along, and no other Rose player cares who is better, and the only people who are using this discreprancy in placement are idiot stream monsters, that I shouldn't even let bug me.

But if all we care about is being the best with a character, then you won't advance as a tournament player and the community fails to advance because more likely than not, you're gonna hide something that 'separates' you as a player, which honestly, you shouldn't be hiding your tech because if you give tech to someone else, they will only find new ideas in terms of tech that they'd be willing to share with you.

But too bad the NRS community is unfortunately stuck in the vortex. Just the other day, there was an argument about best Wonder Woman, and I didn't even entertain it, I just gave props, because honestly, who cares? There should be more than one good player for your character so there will be things to be found.

If all you care about is affirmation to become the best with a character, then you're in the FGC for the wrong reason.

BTW @AK Pig Of The Hut I play Street Fighter for different reasons then the ones you listed ;).
i agree with what you are saying, but what you are describing isn't me. https://www.youtube.com/user/zyph0x all the tech i've ever found i posted, not once have i hid tech, and if i ever said i was going to i succumbed and posted it anyway. i could be friends with all the flash players in the world, still doesn't take away my competitive drive to be the best and to be known as the best with a character or player in general. then you have people who are going around naming "best of said character" left and right and in this particular post i wasn't even mentioned. yes i may have an ego problem and its honestly more than meets the eye, some people just want to be the best or considered the best, and i believe most of us do but for social reason don't announce it like some do. in all honest i want to be the best player in the world, thats my goal, and my first to is to conquer my character since i am a character loyalist. i know i not the best player in the world, but i worked hard everyday to get where i am with flash (hence my goal to be the best flash). once i thought i did it i tried to get better as a player, boost up my fundamentals and win tournaments. then i read all this stuff about how honeybee is now the best flash and if your ego doesn't take a hit even slightly then your in the FGC for the wrong reason.

Best Zatanna that uses Aquaman
We want to watch you play with YOUR character. Not lame-ass aquaman. I have wayyy more respect for 16-Bit rather than Deg because 16-Bit is a character loyalist who doesn't run to Aquaman at the first sign of a 4-6 MU
Says the fucking idiot who sits home at their keyboard criticizing people like me while I spend my time and money to travel to these tournaments.

The bottom line is, if I believe I'm going to get better results with a different character I'm going to do it. The only time I'll stick with Zatanna is if I'm going to a local tournament where the time and money loss isn't as significant. Do the CEO regionals ring a bell? I stuck it out with Harley against Argenrost's Deathstroke when I knew it was a bad MU. I tried Zatanna against whiteboi when I knew it was a losing MU.

Pnut

Mouth of the Illuminati
I've said it before and I'll say it again, nobody gives Theo enough credit about how good he is at both Injustice and with Aquaman. Nobody I've played has ever done about 90% of the things he does to beat me, and it's all the hard work the guy puts in.

I understand why you stopped posting here Pig, there are so many toxic people it's incredible. One of the biggest reasons I stopped playing injustice was how incredible aggressive and overbearing people were to me on the forums, in private messages, and in streams especially. After SCR I heard people were sending hate messages to other NW players because I did well. Even though I wanted to play the game after, the idea of that made me so upset that I didn't even want to force myself to put the game in my console. This is coming from someone who used to get lots of death threat type of messages over stupid YouTube videos.

The only reason I don't want to play MKX is because of the community. Not the guys who head out to torurnaments, who put in work and grind it out, but the people who sit and home playing online and being completely worthless and only talking trash about the people who compete. I know I caused my fair share of problems, and I'm sorry for that, but the amount of absolute garbage that so many people stirred up over nothing during my time playing injustice was so disappointing.

Congrats on how well you did at evo, and hopefully I'll see you around in MKX!
The thing is, is that almost every community has their shitters. And the shitters that you speak of are often the ones that are most vocal. I've been playing competitive games for years, ranging from Counter Strike to Dota to World of Warcraft to Halo. And no matter how well you play or what you do for the community, there will always be people there to shit on you. It's when you sift through the piles of shit and find people you truly enjoy talking to and playing the game with is where the fun is. I have had the fortunate honor of making friends with people like Pig and Wound and Ducky because we all share similar philosophies and have fun talking to each other. I have been in the FGC for a little over a year now, and I'm having the most fun now then I was having in any other game before. Now it may not be the same for you, but you'll find these soulless fuckers everywhere. Just ignore them and keep posting your tech/character development (or don't) and keep being yourself. Because through the piles of shit you will probably find awesome people to talk to. If you want to change characters for a matchup, do it. Who the fuck cares about what these idiots think.

DEG straight up play who you want to play. Not gong to lie i was all bleh when you didnt pick zatanna at CEO. I understand why you did it though. Your Zatanna is really good and its great to see you play her. The few games we got to play at FR were really fun and your a cool dude. ignore the people who hate for what you did by not picking zatanna. Play who you want and keep getting better. Your aquaman is coming along. If you want to play him then do it. People will just have to deal with it. But seriously why couldnt you pick aqua against me at FR. :(. JK :p

Captain Oxygen

The end of one combo is the beginning of another
Honestly, against what a lot think, I would love if people challenged me as the best ares player, it would help level the ares community a lot, and the few that do compete do not communicate. Or really travel. But ares drama aside, I love being apart of a group that has been a real gem in the community that alot of can learn from, PTH. We just love playing the game and love playing our characters. The fact that we continue to level up is because we do not get involved in the drama, and if we do its a troll. We just at it's most basic form, love playing the game. Stay confident, stay positive, and compete.
Yeah, this whole "Being the best with your character" thing is silly, a lot of characters at a high level only 1 have representative placing and it sucks, you think I like being the only Lobo to place? The Lobo forums are silent. Thankfully I do exchange tech and talk MU's with some people now though, but for the longest time I had no one to level up the character with with. Theres so many things I know now that would've helped me months ago.

People should share tech and play to win, a lot of times people who don't place feel they need some sort of achievement so saying they are "the 3rd best ---" but it means nothing.

I don't feel the way they talk about and treat Theo is right, so I'm not gonna lie and defend that they are people are who aren't jealous. They are not jealous of him actually, they are envious of his success. They are being disrespectful and rude to Theo when Theo is practicing the game and playing more than them and winning as a result. You're not taking crazy pulls, because I can name exactly who they are. It's really sad.

I will say though, that Chef isn't one of the players I'm talking about. He's super supportive of Theo and is one of the people who thinks Theo is the best.
@EGP Wonder_Chef so can we calm down now cheffrey?

These players should understand they will lose respect from their viewers by taking the easy way out
Why should they lose respect because they've decided that they don't want to lose at the character select screen anymore? You say they're taking the "easy way out", but tell me, what exactly is the hard way out? If they keep trying they'll find that one magical piece of tech that'll turn the MU on its head? This isn't some kind of fairy tale. After spending countless hours in the lab trying to figure out a MU then coming to the conclusion that your character is simply beaten, what's the problem with using another character? I don't understand at all.

Great post, Pig. I especially agree with this:

Playing Ultra for fun is different and I know myself and others are doing that but GTFO here with the notion of playing ultra now will make u godlike in MKX, lol
I always find it funny how there's this consensus that SF4 is some super deep and technical game compared to MK9. It's not. They pretty much balance out in terms of depth, just in different ways.

Lol, I get that watching low tiers win a match is hype. But at the same time, you're encouraging those individuals to keep with their characters instead of having a plan for their losing MUs. Basically what I'm trying to say is, you'd rather watch them stick with a character and LOSE instead of doing everything in their power to win? What a supporter you are.

This is in NO way bashing the individual players themselves, I'm just criticizing the viewers that "support" them.

People spend a lot of money/time at these tournaments, when they're down 2-0 on stage, the last thing they care about is "what do the people on stream think of me?". In the future I'd probably use different characters in tougher matchups. I lost 3-0 in a terrible matchup, what do I do? Just accept the fact I'll realistically never be able to win the matchup in tournament or buckle down and learn a counter?

Forget what the stream monsters think of me, I'm all for counter picking and tier whoring. Deg has nothing to be ashamed of.

lol so i am the only one that wants to be the best with their character then? or am i the only one who talks about it publicly?
No. I'm the same way, but when other people have traveled more and in that vein put in more time (not saying you didn't play everyday), you just have to hold that until you can go out to prove you're better.

I need to come clean here, because honestly I was hoping for a better opportunity down the line, but it's not coming, I know it.

The reason I joined this community was to get back at you @AK Pig Of The Hut , you said some stuff I didn't like and I made a self pact to make sure that what you said online, that you would be held strictly accountable for it in person. And after you had so many problems come to you when you were helping this growing community, I found a sick sense of satisfaction out of it. What I found when I felt my "revenge" I had a sick sense of satisfaction, and was a shadow of the person I used to be.

Truth be told, I was petty, immature, and stupid. When you had an issue that I agreed (or disagreed) with, I'd just hide away behind my computer, not legitimately having your back. I had no dedication, and had no drive to help the local community level up out of it. I just became a nasty, unkind person to everyone that even crossed my path for everything large and small.

I have to say this, I am sorry how I've treated you and your friends. This community deserves a better class of individual, people that'll put themselves on the line for the betterment of the community. You've always been a better man and helped out so many, regardless of your previous experiences with them, you deserve the credit you get for it.

I don't know what will happen moving forward, but I hope the best for you.

edit: P.S. Take it from me folks, don't take anything someone says to you on forums to heart so that you'd want to screw up their life. There is a person you are responding to you on the other side of the connection, and it's not worth it to spread malice and hatred towards them, revenge isn't worth it, be forgiving and support who and what makes you happy.
