Can we please stop caring whether or not a tournament is a major or a regional

it really doens't matter at all and and there's no reason to piss and moan over it. after all this community has zero regard for whether or not a tournament is actually local, major or regional, however how much they decide to support it, which is some pretty dumb logic. if someone can give me ONE reason why this shit matters then ill humor it

What is going on guys, Ya Boi Zyphox here.
it only mattered when people would say "player A hasn't gotten top 8 at a major, but at XYX tournament he get 5th so player B is better because he got 7th at ABC major's so yeah flash of america confirmed" LOL but in all seriousness it only really comes out in arguments of who is better than who.

It's actually Freddy Marvel
getting placement shouldnt even matter it should just be who you beat or do bad/do well against
you can get top 8 (or at least top 16) winning 3 or matches sometimes or not playing anyone that good lol

Omggg thank you for this thread. When a major ends up being light the communities the ones at fault. People decide not to travel makin that tourney a bit weaker, its only the communites fault. The way people take away from digits win when he looked like he coulda won any tourney that day really annoys me.

if you really want to know whos the best player f a sepcific character, have them run a gauntlet of the same players, using the same characters. but nobodys going to want to put the effort into that so whatever

Shit i was there... i know how hard the comp was. It was noo joke. Just because some people dont know the southern player pool they jump to call it a regional when they werent even there. How the fk do you know how the comp was when you werent even there. Gtfo showdown haters. Level up your community knowledge.

Ya its all speculative. It would really only matter if there was some kind of tournament season like capcom pro tour. The only place people even get all stupid about it is on this site. I have never seen anything like it.

Nah. They need to be differentiated. Saying something is a major compared to a local/regional makes the people realize how serious competitors are taking the tournament and how close the community is watching. Much more is on the line at a major. It's necessary.
no it doesnt. a major is an fgc event that hosts a variety of games and draws traveling players. it has no correlation to how difficult the competition is or how much support they get from NRS players.

No. There is no free region in this game. Everyone has performed well in and out of their respective environments. The AK guys have had some of the most competitive matches, so I'm not sure where you get this idea that less out of towners mean they're not taking it as seriously.

Oh ok? So people traveling for majors has no correlation with the competitiveness compared to local players playing local tournaments?
Are you still in school? If not go back.
it does matter if people travel but it doesnt matter what the competition is. what im saying is that if the NRS community doesnt support it that doesnt mean its not a major. there are still multiple other communities supporting it and traveling. whether or not a tournament is a major doesnt change based on what game you play.

Hell, Winter Brawl had 2 dudes from Taiwan come and a shit ton of WC players. But since barely anyone traveled for injustice its a regional right?

First its like, "If you only an online warrior you're not a real player go offline." Then when you do play offline at tournaments they be like, "You're not good b/c you're not at least not in the Top 16". Then you're in the 16, "Better but you're not in the Top 8 etc". I mean come the fuck on, at least the person went to the offline scene and made an effort to whoop the Top players ass in the region that they are in etc. then They get bashed at their valiant effort. smh

The same logic applies in reverse. If a large volume of people travel to what's historically a Regional, does that make it a Major? This could be debated all day and it will still be stupid. The problem this community has is denouncing competition with the word Regional.

This is the problem I had which I sort of explained in the other thread -

Apex, DTN, CW, etc are considered regionals because they're historically considered regionals and are basically meant to be that, and I'm okay with it. But when you have a tournament that has been historically considered a major suddenly being titled a regional it comes across like you're disrespecting it, whether you mean to or not (and I don't think DMS necessarily meant it like that). Like can we be serious in that the east coast "bias" has been looking more like east coast tournaments just don't mean anything.

I apologize for the historical aspect, and I get it now. No sane person on this forum thinks the level of competition on the East Coast is low, there just aren't many out of towners who go. That is all I meant by saying Regional.

I see t all the time, I like your Signature on here "Somewhere in America" sounds like an opening of a movie when the first part of the movie is told the basck story to the plot and then the next scene says "Somewhere In America" similar to "Present Day" etc.

*insert kotal kahn gibberish here*
I just call them tournaments. Whether it's Evo or one of @RapZiLLa54's Blu Planet Monthlies, a tournament is a tournament. These silly arguments about "regionals" or "majors" or whatever the fuck are going to solve nothing.

Haha Sorry to disappoint, but it's a Jay-Z line from his last album.

"Feds still lurking... They see I'm still putting work in..../ Cause somewhere in America... Miley Cyrus is STILL twerking!"
