Guide Baraka Full Punishment guide

This a guide for which of Baraka's moves will beat out or are good to use against other characters moves. This will be a work in progress for a while. Basically Im going to start by saying whoch of Baraka's moves will beat a certain characters specials after they whiff or are blocked. After that I will go into strings, mixups, jump ins etc. I am basing this mostly off frame data(Big props to everyone who has gotten that for us, especially Riu for Baraka's) and some of my personal experience. Alright here we go:

Notations: Full combo-This is only to use the B3 launcher, as 2 will not hit.

Scorpion

Spear
  • up close blocked: Spear has pretty bad recovery, so Full combo, blade spin, slices and blade charge are all great moves to punish with(might be able to get a B+1 off). Spear is 13 frames as well so a well timed spin could beat it before it even come out
  • up close whiffed: Again bad recovery, most of his specials will work as punishment, free combo
  • Fullscreen whiffed: Its 34 frames, so Baraka's 18 frame fullscreen Blade charge will beat it out and punish.
  • Fullscreen blocked: Same as above
Flame
  • Up close whiffed: A jump in punch will beat it if it is jumped over
Teleport
  • Blocked: Free combo, spin, spark, blade charge and slices all good
Takedown
  • Whiffed: Again must be jumped over to whiff, really cant JIP
  • Blocked: Safe on block(-4)
Liu Kang

Fireball
  • Fullscreen whiffed: EX Blade charge,
  • Fullscreen Blocked: EX Blade Charge
  • Up close whiffed: F44, Blade Charge, fast specials
  • Up close blocked: F44, Blade Charge, Spin, D1
(Low fireball pretty much the same except its 17 frames)

Flying Kick
  • Up close blocked: F44, Any special, full combo punishable(-27 on block)
Bicycle Kick
  • Blocked: free combo, blade charge, blade spin, and slices
  • Whiffed: blade charge or slices if he is close enough
Kung Lao

Hat Toss
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX Blade charge since it doesnt have amazing recovery
  • Fullscreen whiffed: same as above
  • Up close blocked: Slices, Blade Charge, Spin, F44, F4
  • Up close whiffed: Same as above
(Low hat is 2 frames less but still the same, except it cant really be whiffed up close)

Spin
All specials, full combo punishable(-27 on block)

Dive Kick
Spin is the best option

Sub Zero


Iceball
  • Up close whiffed: Free combo, spin, blade charge, slices
  • Up close blocked: Free combo, blade charge and spin, slices
  • Fullscreen whiffed: EX Blade charge or spark
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX Blade Charge
  • If shot at fullscreen, spark will not hit before the iceball
Slide
  • Up close blocked: spin or blade charge(uppercut will work too)
  • Up close blade charge and slide are 10 frames, but from my experience if used at the same time blade charge will win out
Ground Freeze
  • On whiff, free combo or blade charge, slices
Sindel

Fireball + Low Fireball
  • Up close: Full combo, if air fireball only blade charge will work. If blocked may want to do a spin or charge
  • Fullscreen: If blocked EX blade charge can get blocked, if whiffed it will hit
Step-up
  • Up close blocked: Blade spin
Scream
  • Up close whiffed: Free combo or special
  • Up close blocked: Full combo or special
  • EX up close whiffed: maybe spin, very fast recovery
  • EX up close blocked: Might be able to do blade spin or blade charge
Hair Whip
  • Up close whiffed: spin or blade charge
  • Up close blocked: Spin
  • Midscreen whiffed: EX blade charge
  • Midscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Ermac

Telelift
  • Up close blocked: Free combo punishable
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Telepush
  • Up close whiffed: Blade Charge
  • Up close blocked: Blade charge
  • Midscreen blocked: EX blade charge
  • Midscreen whiffed: EX blade charge, MAYBE regular blade charge
Teleport
  • Blocked: Free combo,
Airblast

Leaves Ermac at neutral advantage.



Reptile

Elbow Dash
  • Up close blocked: Most specials, charge, slices, d2, throw
  • Midscreen blocked: Most specials,
Acid Spit
  • Up close blocked: Slices, Blade Charge, Spin
  • Up close whiffed: Most specials
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
  • Fullscreen whiffed: EX blade charge
Force balls
  • Slow: Up close blocked: Same as Acid Spit
  • Slow: Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
  • Fast: Up close blocked: Blade charge, blade spin
  • Fast: Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Acid ball
-4 on block, safe

Slide
On block is punished by full combo or any special

Kitana

Fan lift
On block it is punished by a full combo or any special, actually punished by pretty much anything(-50 on block)

Fan toss
  • Up close blocked: D1
  • Up close whiffed: Blade charge or blade spin
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
  • Fullscreen whiffed: EX blade charge
  • iAf up close blocked: D1
  • iAf up close whiffed: Same as above
  • iAf Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
  • iAf Fullscreen whiffed: EX blade charge
Square boost
Only -5 on block, maybe a D1

Fan slicer
Neutral advantage on block

Pretty kick
  • Up close blocked: Safe on block
  • Midscreen blocked: same as above
Fake kick
Leaves her at neutral advantage

Johnny Cage


Air spin kick
  • Up close blocked: blade spin, blade charge
  • Up close whiffed: If you backdash you could blade spin(might not have to backdash)
Shadow kick
  • Up close blocked: Full combo, most specials
  • Max range blocked: same as above
Forceballs
  • Up close blocked: Full combo(if started with B+3,1) or most specials
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
  • Up close whiffed: Blade spin, blade charge, or full combo
  • Fullscreen whiffed: EX blade charge
Split punch
Blocked: Full combo, any special

  • Up close blocked: Slices, blade charge, spin

-3 on block, possibly a d1

Hatchet
Punished by a D1 or D3

Lightning
On whiff it can be punished with a jump in punch or if done while you are in the air and land punished by a full combo and any special

Arrow
  • Up close blocked: Full combo and any special
  • Up close whiffed: Blade spin or Blade charge
  • Fullscreen whiffed: EX blade charge
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Choke

Punished by a D1


Cyrax

Net
  • Up close blocked: Punished by a full combo, blade spin or blade charge. I would highly suggest if blocked midscreen to use blade charge
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
  • After jumped over: Blade spin or blade charge
Teleport
Can be punished by blade spin

Bombs
  • Up close: Full combo, any special
  • Midscreen: Blade charge, slices
  • Fullscreen: EX blade charge
Saw blade
Is now safe on block, punished by spin, blade charge

Noob Saibot

Shadow charge
  • Up close blocked: Punished by blade spin, blade charge, slices, and B+3,1
  • Midscreen blocked: Blade charge, very important to remember
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Shadow Knee
+4 on block, not punishable

Black holes
If you are close, punished by full combo(watch out where it is landing though). If you are midscreen, blade charge to lessen space. If you are fullscreen EX blade charge

Teleport
On block it is punished by full combo using B+3,1 as a starter. Most specials will work as well. A good way to bait this is U+3(at least against those not familiar with Baraka)

Ghostball
Up close it is punished by full combos and specials. Blade charge and EX blade charge are best to use when it is done midscreen or fullscreen

Shadow slide
If you jump over it and are close enough, it can be punished by blade charge

Smoke

Teleport
On block can be punished by a full combo, blade charge, or blade spin. If they purposefully whiff and are behind you, blade spin can still punish

Smoke Bomb
Remember that blade charge will go through smoke bomb, even before it hits you

  • Up close blocked:fast specials(Slices, Blade charge, Blade spin)
  • Midscreen blocked: blade charge
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Shake
Can be low poked

Sektor
Teleport Uppercut
On block it is punished by a full combo. Remember he can TU at any time so watch out for his jump ins. (Good way to bait this is U+3)

Flamethrower
On block is punished by blade charge, blade spin, chop chop, slices, or F44

Missiles
  • Up close blocked: blade spin or blade charge
  • Midscreen blocked: blade charge
  • Fullscreen: EX blade charge
Up missiles
Blade spin and Blade charge are the best options up close. EX blade charge is the best option fullscreen. If blocked is +44 frames, wont be able to punish.

Sonya Blade

Dive kick
Punished by charge, spin, F4(into frametraps) on block. It will go through the moves if you try to anti air

Arc kick
Same as above, except you could probably get away with a b3,1 combo on this as well.

Kiss
Punished by blade spin

Cartwheel
Is safe on block

Leg grab
Punished by mostly anything on block, very unsafe move.

Rings
  • Up close blocked: Blade spin
  • Up close whiffed: Blade spin
  • Midscreen blocked: blade charge
  • midscreen whiffed: MAYBE blade charge
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
  • Fullscreen whiffed: EX blade charge
Jax
Note: I could not find any block frame data, so take these at your own risk
Dash punch
On block it is punished by blade spin

Overhead slam
Punished by blade spin

Gotcha grab
Punished by blade spin

Ground pounds



Spark on reaction will force this to whiff. Not recommended because Jax can cancel it, but still.



Energy wave
  • Up close blocked: charge or spin
  • Midscreen blocked: charge
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Back grab(Dont remember the name)
On block can be punished by spin, charge, slices, or f4


Kano
Note: No block frame data for him yet, take these at your own risk.
Upball
Can be punished by blade spin or blade charge

Ball
Can be punished by blade spin or blade charge, f4 or b3 combos

Choke
Unpunishable

Ground Skulls
  • Up close blocked: Blade charge, Blade spin, F4
  • Midscreen blocked: Blade charge and EX blade charge

Are all +30 on block, not punishable on block. Punished by a lot during the animation up close though.


Soul Steal
It is safe on block, at best you can D1

Fire Skull
  • Up close blocked: Blade charge, Blade spin, F4, B3
  • Midscreen blocked: Blade charge or EX blade charge
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Kabal

Fireballs
Can be punished by EX or regular blade charge. IF they are iAGB's you will not be able to punish unless with EX blade charge.

Nomad dash
On block is punished by most specials and B3 and F4

Tornado throw
On block is punished by blade charge, slices, spin, F4

Buzzsaws
On block they really cant be punished unless you are up close and you want to poke. MAYBE blade charge, I have not tested it.

A good Kabal will wreck you though. I might as well put it out thereXD

Raiden

Teleport

Can be poked by D1, D4, or D3


Superman
Punished by blade charge, blade spin, F4, or B3

Shocker
it can be punished by blade charge, blade spin, slices, F4, and B3

Lightning
  • Up close blocked: Punished by blade charge, slices, F4, or blade spin
  • Midscreen blocked: Blade charge or slices would be good for this situation
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Vicinity blast
Is neutral on block

Cyber Sub Zero
Note: No frame data for block advantage present, use at own risk
Dive kicks
Dive kicks blocked result in a free blade charge or blade spin. This is important in this matchup.

Parry
Pretty sure you can just low poke him out of parry

Bombs
Like Cyrax, if you see an opportunity always punish bombs with EX blade charge or blade charge

Ice ball
  • Up close blocked: Slices, Blade charge, Blade spin, F4 and B3
  • Midscreen blocked: Blade charge
  • Fullscreen blocked: EX blade charge
Teleport
Can be punished by blade spin

Slide
On block is punished by slices, blade charge, blade spin, F4 and b3

Sheeva

Teleport stomp
Backing up and throwing out an air punch will hit her out of the stomp.

Stomp
You can use blade charge or blade spin to hit her out of this before it connects.

Command grab
+12 on block

Fireball
Basically all of her fireballs can be punished with blade charge. Up close blocked she is insanely vulnerable, so punish with whatever you like.

Quan Chi
Note: No block frame data on here so use at your own risk

Runes
Basically on block these can be punished by blade charge or blade spin if up close. Midscreen is blade charge, Fullscreen is EX blade charge.

Skull ball
  • Up close blocked: Blade spin, blade charge, slices, F4, or B3
  • Midscreen blocked: Blade charge
  • Fullscreen: EX blade charge

Punished by blade charge, blade spin, F4, or B3

Freddy Fingers- Only punishable by EX blade charge on reaction
Glove Toss- Punished by blade charge or other fast specials up close, DO NOT LET GO OF BLOCK AT FULLSCREEN. When a GT is blocked full screen he gets a free far ground claw.
Sweet Dreams- Punished by a blade charge if in range, EX blade charge anywhere on the screen.
Nightmare Stance-Can be interrupted by blade charge(Special Thanks to Altaire for clearing this up)
Ground Spike far-Punished by EX blade charge(-14 on block)
Ground Spike mid- Punished by blade charge(-14 on block)

I could be wrong here, I don't really ever play against decent scorpions, but can't a close whiffed spear be punished by a full combo?

thanks to the reduced pushback, kung laos spin is punishable by full combo now, however you still have to be quick

Yeah, I was pretty tired last night so I seem to have forgotten about the full combo thing, did not know that Lao's spin could be punished by a full combo though

EDIT: I will be sure to mention full combo opportunities the next time I get to working on this.

Alright, Im through about 25% of the kast now, I apologize for not getting more done this week, have been extremely busy. Hopefully I can knock out a good portion of it this weekend. Feel free to correct me on any of this, I make mistakes

I use this strategy against annoying Sub Zeros .. Don't, attack .. Just defend and you will win :) .... It happens alot to me
Let him throwing all that snow on you blocking it... Do not fall into snow trap. If you wanna jump on him, then only do that if he is next to you where he can hardly does his ice clone. Or in time where you can catch him off guard.

Hey, Zoidberg, I watched ur match against Kabal ... Try to use this strategy ... Whenever you knock Kabal on ground, do not jump cuz he can catch you with his spin ... However, do u3, which makes baraka look like he's gonna jump and that move is safe on block .. You can attract Kabal into it and punish that spin.

I still need more testing with U3 ..

I donno the effect of U3 in open space but I'm trying that shit and it works against some guys when you knock them on ground :)

its has pushback and is safe

that have marked full combo on most things, there are a difference in frame dame between, 2-b3-f2 so while one might hit,a another will be blocked,jumped out of,poked out etc, if this to be a full punishisment guide i think we need to go into more detail than just" full combo" being answer to 90% of things

Nice thread Zoid. Been scrutinising the Baraka/Noob section. Literally ran into a army of Noob Saibots tonight. I swear, one of Barakas hardest matchups.

Its actually 5-5, all you have to do is block dash until midscreen where shadows are punished by blade charge. You can also use U+3 to bait their teleports for full combos.

And welcome to the site, glad we have someone who might actually post in the Baraka section!

Yeah, Baraka is still my best character and i've got to that stage now where I know all his strings and my brain goes into auto-pilot in a given situation. However some match ups still get me. Noob and Sub I find pretty damn hard, and Reptile as well, but Reptile is like my kryptonite no matter who I main!

Characters like Mileena or DerpLao are not a problem in my opinion

Isn't Jades shadow kicks and NW charge, safe on block?.

also punishing mileena sais with b3 or u3? blocked sai is -9, b3 is 17 frames,u3 is 4 frames,mileena can block

did a bit of playing round with punishing reptiles dash,
charge
slices
d2
throw, all punish any not ex dash
(also d1/d3 slices nice to try get into pressuring reptile)

spin will sometimes miss depending on were reptile dashes from,same with 1,must be his weird hitbox
