Dunno if this the right thread to post this, so if its not, feel free to move it.

So what i wanted to say is what will happen to the EU MK community after EVO (and i m saying EVO cause thats the latest major top EU MK players will attend). From my point of view this game does not have much time to live in EU tournaments after the summer. I ve been in two majors during the 1.5 year the game was released and thats it. You might say "why only two" and stuff, well the reason is because those two gathered the majority of the top MK EU scene. After that, nothing. So my question to all the top MK players in Europe is this: Do you guys believe that the game will die after the summer ? And i m saying this cause from what it seems there is no support from any sponsors or even NRS (yes i said it) towards the EU MK community, despite the fact we have so many talented players. I mean look at the US. The MLG series, FR etc etc (sorry but i dont remember all the major tourneys in the US). Why cant the same thing happen to Europe regarding MK ? The biggest scenes in Europe are the UK, Greece, Italy, France and Poland if i remember correctly. Why cant these scenes organize something BIG for MK ? I m saying all that because i really believe that after EVO, MK will die in Europe, despite having hardcore players.

Essentially, it will be down to us in the UK, and you Greeks to group together, and attend other countries tournaments, and make them major because of the quality we will raise it to.

I know us in the UK will want to attend tournaments after EVO, it's just about picking a few we can all agree on attending.

What is the next tournament you greek guys are intent on going to, maybe we can all make the effort?

We aren't massive enough imho. And in 2013 I guess mk9 will die coz of "injustice".

I'll talk just about my own experience but I know that the game didn't work that much in france coz of the shit online + hardcore gamers/top players from SF4, they just killed mk9 saying lot of bullshit about it (for example mk9 would have been a crap game coz there is a block button, stuffs like that).
From there, some very talented french players stop mk9 to go back to tekken/SF4 etc.. (those who loved the game have also been desgusted by the fact that NRS was dealing with the kommunauty only to announce DLCs, despite that they didn't say shit bout the online issue, if they'll do something or not, why/how ? Same for the patchs, etc.. ).
NRS = bad communication for esport, good marketing for selling their games (they mostly lie, I remember Boon saying mk9 online will be better than SF4, and when the game came out we never heard about them, except for dlc ).

Thats the point, i dont know. I havent heard anything regarding any MK major except the one that will be held on August in the UK, which unfortunately wont be able to attend cause of financial issues.

Well, why don't we all try and attend one outside of the UK? We were looking to go to that one in Amsterdam, but its the weekend of Evo, so we obviously are not going.

Is Mk not as big in europe? as far as casual players? It seems like the travel distance isn't what hurts you, its lack of popularity. I mean north america is a large place, but people from canada, east coast midwest etc, travel, maybe in part because there are more casual players turned hardcore.

I don't want to say something to make me look like a liar, but from west coast to east coast is a long way. In europe that would mean going to a tournament in another country could actually be closer than going coast to coast for a tournament?

IF its a lack of interest, it will be hard for a handful of hardcore players to keep things growing. But then again I don't know, i just hope the top euro players keep playing, you contribute to the community, and the tournaments you do have i always enjoyed watching. Same goes for the south american guys.

Don't want to see any scenes die out, especially since it could be a while before we see mk10.

Honestly i really don't know , here in Italy it has been quite an hard time for almost any fighting game except for Tekken and Street fighter , our community had a good start but it fell down after october mostly because the distance between us and pretty bad online , a decent bunch of tekken players were playing the game but stopped since the tekken scene is bigger here.

On top of that WB didn't ever support our events even tho we tried to contact them many times ( while namco did support the tekken events ) , there still are a good bunch of only online players but they never moved their asses out of their sofas and many of them still don't have a clue of what's an offline scene judging themselves based off online play.

Im not joking when i say we're a total of 2-3 players willing to spend their time travelling for mk and even then its financially hard to get there , i46 could have been an opportunity to go out but unfortunately if i want to keep my job i cant miss even 1 day since my boss is a nazi , from september i will have some breathing room in the weekends so i could attend a tournament if there's one.

I dont want to be pessimistic but our scene is not healthy and with TTT2 coming out many players will just go for that , it saddens me that a good game like mk9 didnt get the attention it deserved but you can bet i'll still play it even in a year from now.

This is yours fault. How many times do we see a stream from an european tournament? If you don't market yourselves how are we supposed to know that this scene exists or is big if you guys never promote yourselves. I've never seen you guys promoting anything here.
  6. Crathen Death is my business

@Syntsui its not our fault man , also there is some footage around Tym like Mr E project , greekdojo , WGC and some irish tourneys , truth may be we simply lack numbers compared to EU's other fighting scenes wich is a mixed result between lack of support / sponsors and few fg players getting interested in mk other than a good number of casual players wich do not get involved in the offline scene , also factor the tough finincial times we're trying to get through , ofc im only speaking for italy here.

Another opinion of mine is that gaming isnt big as it is in Usa and going out just to play games is seen as a waste of time.

are you serious? every tournament in the UK at least has had footage recorded, and whenever a stream is available it is posted.

    it's there, trust me.

I'm here since MK9 launched and I have a pretty good sight. I see central american tournaments being promoted here but I don't see english, greeks or whatever. And when I say it's yours fault, I'm not about you/ketchup/foxy/metzos/glue I'm talking about a fucking scene.

i edited my post after thinking about your statement further.

every UK tournament so far has had footage recorded and posted, stream links etc have all been posted here when available, perhaps you just didnt see them.

Everything starts with grassroots. You guys just have to start getting together, doesn't matter if it's at a major or not.

If there was I may have missed, but we have like a major tournament in USA every month, sometimes more than one. We have a lot of hype moment, some feuds and trash talking between the players. I don't see this coming from you guys, we have the brothers, foxy and glue as well know members that helps the community a lot. But I really can't remeber a thread here talking about a hype tournament you guys participated that had hype moments, turnouts, etc... Damn even Canada got a hype tournament the other day, I'm jealous that things like these doesn't happen in Brazil and my friends just like to play Fifa, may be a cultural thing.

I think the biggest problem first and foremost is that support wise, MK9 has been a toe in the pool for NRS so to speak more than anything, just to have a grasp on how to approach future projects. They're not as experienced as catering to different regions as Namco, Capcom, Sega, SNK etc. are. So I guess for the time being, they'd rather put their time into promoting the U.S. scene. And as most above has mentioned, online hasn't really been an ideal place for anyone to explore the game's intricacies and fundamentals.. pains me to say it, but it really is going to be a matter of player support until MK10 is unveiled.

I live in the UK. I would love nothing more than to go to casuals in London, financial problems stop me from doing so. London is roughly 5-6 hours from me, it's a long way for a few hours of MK and then another 5-6 hours of travelling back. I'm going to try to attend the I46 tournament in August, if nothing else, just for the experience.

U.S had backing from this game since it was released. I think if NRS backed other countries then it would have a better/bigger scene.

    AssassiN Nyaah wah!

Well, Belgium and Netherlands have combined both communities for tournaments.
The tournaments in july and august are not majors but you are welcome to attend them.
We will have a major in Amsterdam in combination with other fighting games around october called Red Fighting District, pretty sure details will be released in the next few months.

Im going to i46 in UK in august, so hoping to see a lot of you there.

Its much harder to have console tournaments since EU is pretty much PC gaming. So MK for PC!

    @Syntsui
The US MK community is huge, it goes for miles, everyone who can support it does, and theres enough players in each region to be able to hold tournament alot more often. The UK scene is booming right now and just because you dont get to see any rivalries and hype and such doesnt mean we arent all doing what we can to support it. Players travel hours every week for casuals in london, and if my boss let me i know i would be there every monday night where matches are being recorded, and tournaments are being held, so quit your whining.

I46 and anime con are coming up, SVB is on the horizon too, the UK Supremecy battle (also with videos posted) was awesome and hopefully @BenGmanUk will host similar events in the future and will have full support from the uk community in doing so!

Also brazilians playing fifa is like burnt face man maining kabal....

@Metzos if theres ever an event in greece that you can post dates in advance even if you guys just book a room and play casuals, i would fucking love a holiday, and if theres MK involved all the better, and im sure im not the only one!

Can you post as much detail as possible for people travelling from outside (local hotels/accomodation, nearest flights, etc) about Red Fight District as possible when it comes up, or make sure that someone does, if i can get the time off and can book it early i will come to this.

Also. It does seem evident that unfortunately a lot of EU players won't go to tournaments/majors because they aren't in their back garden.

Which is why I have nothing but respect for the Greek guys. I think you guys have been to more countries for MK than anyone in this community.

I don't mean to go for multiple posts. But you're correct. Our UK scene is growing slowly but nicely. All because Helter Skelter started the casuals, and 12 Gauge takes the effort to book up the gamerbase 18+ room every week. On top of traveling from Birmingham to London every Monday, which is a treck and a half.

Supremecy Battle happened because Bengman organized the whole thing. MK has I46 because of Mustard and I pushed MK as much as possible to Organizers who are great guys for the record.

Things won't just happen. You gotta make it happen.
