Ha! That's the second time they've shown MK9 footage on the Daily Show.
I liked how Mitt stayed Johnny Cage, but Newt inexplicably turned into Smoke a few times. Also notice when it says "Finish Him" it's the MKDA announcer for whatever reason.

There must be a MK fan on the writing team; that's the second time for MK9 like Noob Saibot said, and they have used the MK logo quite a few times over the years.

I was kind of hoping for the other fatality though; but I guess that would be giving his opponent an award...

I think Jon Stewart himself is a fan of the game, this one in particular. Or they allude to as much the first time they used footage of this particular game.

I'm so glad they chose Noob's first fatality. It has to be the most over the top and unnecessary fatality in the game if not of all time.
