Question Can ex freeze counter blocked zonings?

What is a good tactic to counter online zoning? I find myself unable to consistently throw an iceball without getting knocked down. Offline I can double dash in and combo but only half the time my opponent is already blocking.

I thought ex freeze might be able to freeze faster allowing me to close in quicker but I'm not sure if this works.

Any ideas?
