Question - Leatherface Anyone else eating their words?

I hate everything about him but if he's fun to play I'll use him only because he comes included in the kombat packs

I still think it was a pretty bizarre choice, and yeah, my impression was "wtf, why Leatherface? There are so many characters being begged for, but nobody wanted Leatheface."

Jason, Freddy, Predator, Alien... these are popular so if they're going to have guest characters, they make sense to me. Leatherface really is pretty niche.

Gameplay matters so much more though; this is a fighting game after all. Once i started entertaining ideas of his playstyle, I realized he would very likely cater to how I like to play, with chainsaw footsies and maybe a command grab. And I was right, he plays almost exactly how I imagined, except for the full on zoning variation. I expected a pressure variation with a chainsaw rev to buff chip damage, like Flame Fist. So I'm pretty excited to play him even though I wish it would've been Kabal instead.

Now we have an AvP matchup as well as Jason vs Leatherface. So there is that. There is a strong chance he'll be my preferred KP2 character.

Actually so is Leatherface, considering him and Norman Bates where the very first slasher villains. He came before Jason, Freddy, Michael, you name them. Leatherface is OG.
But the things is..both are based off real people or events sooo not original. Al Simmons on the other hand is both God and Satan...with guns, chains, swords, he's the gatdamn Avatar, Dr Strange, Dr. Fate, and Darkseid combined. Batman level prep skills, and the personality of a badass killer Morgan Freeman.

Spawn is life. Also Black Dynamite is more original then LeatherFace, and hes a walking parody.

Ash could have worked as well. I always forget about Ash because he's not a monster. He also has a chainsaw btw. 3 variations could have been Chainsaw, Double Barrel, and Necromicon. I still like what I've seen of leather face though.

I was reserving judgement until gameplay and my verdict is, he looks dumb. The variation where he was throwing chainsaws was ridiculous. meh

I don't get how a human being would not be entertained with the throwing of chainsaws.
Um...because theres nothing scary nor entertaining about a man with a chainsaw. If this was real life and someone said theres a mad man on the loose with a chainsaw, wouldnt be hard to avoid considering i can hear this man 20miles away. ...And no i never watched his movies...nor will i...even new ones.

Now if u tell me theres a Jack Frost on a loose..Then we would have a problem. Jack Frost definately should have made the cut.. when they auditioned for the spot :coffee:

Guess who IS original. Spawn.
Tortured, shoddy human being who gets otherworldly powers and becomes overpowered and stands against all forms of authority...

I feel like this has happened before in the fifty-four years of comic book history before Spawn's inception.

Is there any proof to the claim that warner brothers probably wanted these characters included?

As far as I can tell Alien / Xenomorph is property of 20th Century Fox. I'm sure I could probably find some WB affiliation if I looked harder or whatever but that's not really the point I'm trying to make here.

Anyway, putting Movie characters to into other game titles to promote upcoming movie releases is not only something that's completely speculatory, it's also not how WB has done this in the past. They also own the rights to the hobbit, lord of the rings, and harry potter. Were hobbit / LOTR characters or harry potter characters crammed into other games as guests or did they get their own game titles? Why would WB bury lesser known characters in a completely unrelated game and ensure less visibility than their own titles would provide? Maybe less risk associated with just putting these characters in MK as opposed to losing tons of money through producing titles that have more potential to flop or something?

This is kinda funny too. "OMG you can't have X and Y characters in the game did you even read the comics lol the story line wouldn't make sense then! ...

Alien, predator, Jason, and leatherface are ok tho."

I don't get how a human being would not be entertained with the throwing of chainsaws. That's enough to make me main him lol. He does look really damn good though, mid tier very least. Pretty Lady has full screen control and 50/50s. Killers chainsaw cancels already looks nasty and butcher just looks fun as fuck. Not to mention he had some of the best range in the game. The only thing I see going against him is his speed, so zoners might be a challenge for him. However I'm sure Pretty Lady could make it even. He looks good and they did a good job with him. It's fine if you don't like him, but you can't deny he already looks like a hella good character.
I've learned not to overreact with a character's trailer/first gameplay with NRS. some characters look super badass on their trailer and when they come out they are pretty bad, or vice-versa.

No, but just a general understanding of the interaction between developer and publisher should make it easy enough to speculate. WB is releasing a Leatherface movie this year, last I heard.

I imagine the conversation went something like this:

WB: We're making a Leatherface movie and people need to be excited for it. So here's what you're going to do. Put him in MKX.

NRS: But our fans are begging for staple characters like Noob, Sindel, Rain, Baraka, Nightwolf... it's a long lis--

WB: Shut the FUCK UP! What did we tell you about back talking?

NRS: sigh ... Yes, master.

WB: And, you are going to make him strong. The strongest character in the game. What's that word the hipsters are using, "broken"? Do that. And he better throw a lot of chainsaws.

You kids are honestly fooling yourselves if you think WB bent NRS over and threatened to go lubeless unless they forced characters with movies coming out into their game, amidst developer protests of wanting to give their MK fans more MK characters instead.

Just look at the labor of love they're pouring into these horror icons to make sure they fit perfectly into the MK world and yet still retain every bit of their own core essence at the same time. Just look at how hard they're trolling you nerds by making LEATHERFACE one of the biggest ZONERS in the game. The joke is on every one of you who thinks throwing chainsaws is a silly concept and these characters don't belong.

NRS loves these guest characters and it shows. We all want as much MK as we can get, but at least try to maybe respect and appreciate the fact that when NRS does a fan service and caters to the casual crowd they put just as much of themselves into it to make it as cool as possible for ALL of us as when they're resurrecting fan favorites from the MK universe.

You can't say they didn't try to do both these classic horror icons AND their core MK fanbase as much justice as they could with their inclusions. Horror movie icons will sell games to people who don't give a shit about Bruce Lee clones, Jean Claude wannabes, and guys with funny hats. And NRS still tries to make their inclusion as badass as possible for those of us who DO care a hell of a lot about those funny hat motherfuckers, so the hardcore salt over "wasted DLC spots" seems like overkill.

That Butcher brutality was a fucking love letter to every one of us who witnessed our first head and spine removal at age 6 and have been in love since.

We don't even know all the members of the team, let alone what they wanted - or who they have to answer to.

Whether it was by choice or not is purely speculative, regardless of what is said by any one member of the group we know.

Why can't appealing to horror movie fans and MK fans be separate? Why isn't anyone addressing the idea that horror movie icons and MK games DONT NEED TO BE MIXED TOGETHER

They own the hobbit, harry potter, and lord of the rings. They have a hobbit game, a harry potter game, and a lord of the rings game.

This is like saying, "Warner brothers is trying to appeal to harry potter fans as well as DC fans, so they put dumbledore in injustice 2."

This time they are trying to appeal to horror movie fans by mixing it with MK? why? If you want to appeal to leatherface / horror movie fans, make a friday the 13th game. Make a texas chainsaw massacre game.

Who the F am I kidding. I would main the F out of dumbledore if he was in IGAU2

Again, releasing an upcoming film has never been promoted by WB before by including the main characters of said film into a completely unrelated game. They typically release games based on the characters or movies they're promoting.
