anything below 8ms is considered lagless. so it's good i belive.

also Benq is pretty reliable and you dont need more than 60hz for fighting games

thanks- prob gonna try to go pick this up today . if anything i guess ill have another montior to use.

$25 is a great price. If anything, use it for now then upgrade later on.

I haven't paid much attention to monitors the last year or 2. I still have 2 of the Evo ASUS monitors.

Why 8? 16.667ms is an actual frame at 60fps.

There are other factors at play. Your controller, the system and the game itself (depending on how it's programmed) all introduce additional lag. Once you add all that together and it's over 16.67ms, you get an extra frame of lag.

I remember injustice had like 5 frames of lag on xbox. Tekken had 7 frames of input lag. SFIV had 2 more frames of lag on PS3 than it did on 360.

Surprised no one said anything. Some misinformation in this thread. Just so everyone knows response time does not reflect the input lag of the monitor. They are 2 very superate and different things. The response time of your monitor mainly only affects ghosting of the image on the screen. And when you check the response time you need to see if it is listed as black to black or grey to grey. 5ms black to black is basically the same as 1ms grey to grey. Generally anything over 5ms GTG with cause blurring and ghosting in the image.

They do not list input lag in the specs or the manual, you have to go to websites that test the monitors to find that out.

My benq XL2720z (same monitor they used at ESL finals) has 1ms GTG response time with an average of 10ms input lag (which is considered very very good) anything under 16.67ms of input lag (not response time) will be very good because it will be less than 1 frame of data of input lag. I don't think there is even a monitor out there with less than 6ms input lag honestly.

Input lag > response time

Hope this cleared some stuff up.

thanks - I actually looked up the very information you just dropped the day I posted this message . it helped some but that's kinda why I was posting this message. at first the monitor was only $25 . being a benq I was kinda figuring the input lag would be on the good side because of the brand and how they push towards our market and that the 5ms was rated good. I'm about to build a vewlix type set up. I guess I was just more curious to if it was actually a good buy having the monitor been a few years older as well or, if I should just go out and buy a new better rated one from the start. BUT turns out that I ended up getting two monitors for free.

thanks again though for the info - I guess me just assuming it's a Benq and that the input lag will be good is not a good idea.

how would you suggest I best test this out ? any website you recommend? or should I try to contact benq?

Displaylag is a good website. You can usually just google the model with input lag and you should find it pretty fast.

To be honestly usually cheaper monitors have less input lag. Generally the nicer the image of the monitor the more Input lag there will be. Nicer images take more processing time to create, creating input lag.

There are monitors with really nice images and very low input lag but that's usually when you get into more expensive stuff, like the 400$ and up range.

Tech jargon aside. I assure you, that if you play on a 5ms monitor, then go to an event and play on a 1ms monitor you will feel it. It will require time to adjust. It could effect your performance without a doubt.

That said, 5ms should be fine for now.. And if you don't go to offline events, it shouldn't hurt you at all. :)
