That got me thinking - is this really accurate? I mean yes Sub sees that tournament play, but only as Grandmaster. So one can say, that only 33,3% of Sub Zero is actually good. Which is... i dont know. Bad?

Remember NRS designed all this variations for some kind of counterpicking purpose, which nobody cares about as of now. If people want pressure/zoning/whatever they'd really just swtich character not variation

In fact probably for 90% of the cast 2 out of 3 variations are totally or nearly useless.

So heres comes my point about Kotal which sees all 3 variations effectively represented at tournaments and, unlike Sub-Zero, who is often used as a counter-pick, KK players are mostly loyalists. Which brings us to conclusion that Kotal Kahn is, in fact, the best-designed character of MKX right now and probably a perfect representation of what NRS were trying to achieve.

Ketchup made top 8 in Evo with Sorcerer though... He also uses Warlock for some MUs now. And you have Michaelangelo who went on to learn Sorcerer after maining Summoner for so long.

Other characters who have all 3 variations used are F/T, Reptile, Shinnok (aaaalmost), Mileena, Jax, Erron Black.

edit: also more on topic, imo best designed char is tremor. switching between aftershock and crystalline change up so much and help were the other lacked. sure even with the lack luster metallic zoning that variation does some serious work in other ways in lava mode and good few would consider that his "weakest" variation

In my experience, the only time I switch to non-Kotal is when I can't parry their projectiles, while I want to zone myself. Or when someone picks Grandmaster Sub-Zero. Then I pick Vicious Ferra/Torr; seriously, ef him in the a.

Everyone forgets Jacqui lol.

Honesty, all 3 variations are viable and all have match ups in which they fair better. I would honestly say they got Jacqui pretty smack bang on atm.

Sure, she has some issues (reflect not being fast and armour being some of the worst in the game) but I think she's pretty much the level that all characters should be balanced towards.

Also, all 3 of her variations are vastly different and play in a completely different manner.


The problem with Jacqui has and always will be underrepresentation. There just isn't anyone using her.

Provide a list of players winning or placing high at majors for each variation. Or top player using this variation as a main.

I might have taken your word for it, but still im curious - Why are you playing summoner then? Why every other player uses summoner? Why all the top placings are summoner? Being "just as good" but not seeing play, whatever the reasons dont count.

Yeah right. Everyone forgets Jacky, b/c there is nothing to remember. Nobody places with jacky. Viability nets results, so far no results, no viability

What you "think" is your subjective opinion. I can respect that, but I aim for objective numbers, which are thournament results
