Should I pick MKX up again?

Gamer68

Fujin!
I dropped MKX because of various reasons. I don't have any locals or anything like that, I don't have any friends who try to play competitively, so I rely on online to play competitively. But the online was pretty bad which was a HUGE deal to me. I was also disappointed with the story and was upset about the DLC and microtransaction shenanigans the game had.

Despite me being upset about everything and even saying things like "they screwed it up!" pretty often, I've still been keeping a close eye on the game -- which obviously means I still care about the game to some extent. Today I saw some gameplay of a character I liked playing (Jax) and I felt like turning on the game and jumping into practice mode, but I had to remind myself about how much I was disappointed last time I played. However, all day today I've been thinking about MKX. The characters, the stages, the music, etc. I even started asking myself questions like "Should I play with my fightstick or just play with the pad? -- I think the pad might be better for MKX"

The issue though, is of course, I don't want to be disappointed again. Street Fighter V will also be out in a few months, so will Killer Instinct on PC. I'm planning on playing both of those games to the highest level I can and I don't know if I will touch MKX again when I am focusing on two games so hard. Do you think I should start playing MKX again? Or do you think I will just be wasting my time?

If you only play online...there is no hope bro honestly, you'll have to to find a group of online friends with good connections and even that doesn't help, or just accept that the online is terrible. ALSO more DLC is Incoming and bruh I doubt it will be cheap I'm guessing another 40$+ of characters and skins.

Shadow Priest
Just because you saw someone else enjoying the game, doesn't mean you will. If the reasons you listed still stand, then nothing has change. It's still the same game you dropped because of those reasons. Now, I believe you should give the game another chance even if it's just for fun. Just don't do go expecting the reasons you dropped the game to go away only to drop it again for the same reasons.

Blade4693

VIVIVI
If you enjoy it. I am in a similar situation (No local scene, no friends who still play the game/play competitively) so online is the only way for me to play other people who actually have any experience with the game, but I still have a blast when I play for the most part so that's what I do. Give it another shot, if you still don't like it don't play it, if you do, then keep on.

I'm looking at this site for the first time in a while. Honestly there isn't a single game out that has really gripped me. Halo has been tragic. GoW didn't have proper ranks. MKX's online is booty. KI has the dumbest roster in any FG imo (look at my profile). I've been on MGSV, but its multiplayr isn't very good either. Video games suck.

What really puts me off about these games is that people tend to be really disrespectful, at least online. And that happens with every fighting game, not just Mortal Kombat; so if you can cope with that on Killer Instinct and USFIV, I don't see why you shouldn't play MKX.

The black ops community has been cancerous. Luckily they put in a feature to automatically mute everyone.

no man, it's a poison. If you managed to get away from it once, keep your distance

KI has the BEST roster in any FG for the last 10 years

I've kinda drifted away because of fallout 4 and my wantings to get good at smite. But I also really love the community. I feel like I just can't leave

If you wanna play it, play it. If you don't, don't and play whatever else/move on. If you need other people to convince you to play, you probably shouldn't bother. Maybe wait until Kombat Pack 2 and see the changes to the game, characters, balance and so forth then decide.

I like the game a lot, but then again, I didn't start playing it under the assumption that it would be MK9 with new graphics or expecting it to be like whatever previous fighting game I've played.

This.

Online is still terrible, even in the best possible conditions. If there truly is no local scene nearby, I wouldn't recommend it.

I would double check for local scenes, however. They pop up in strange places.

MrProfDrPepper

NRS, Guilty Gear, and KI, the holy trinity
If you have it then go ahead and play it, you have an mkx itch so no harm can be done from playing it, however if you have to buy it again, then no don't because online sucks too much to play, if you had an offline scene then it would be worth it to buy it, but since you are only available to online, you should not buy it again, but if you do have it. Then play it.

too weird to live, too rare to die
This isn't some mmorpg you have subscribe to or anything to play it again dude. Just stick the game in and give a whirl for a few if you feel the need

Wetdoba

All too easy...
If you already stopped and your only option is online then its not worth it. This is hands down the worst online game Ive ever played, both in terms of the quality of the game online and the quality of the community online. The game literally is the worst online gaming experience I have ever had. The first online game I ever played was Halo 1 on a fucking macintosh 11+ years ago and it functioned 1000x times better online than MKX. Now combine that with random scumbags abusing online tactics everywhere. This game online is bad for your mental health if you are trying to play competitively so I say get out while you can.

Let's be real, you are not going to make your decision based on forum posts responses.

You made this thread because you dropped the game, but still wanted to complain more, hence a thread with a rhetorical question about whether you should pick it up again.

If you don't like the game fine, but I'm tired of these thinly disguised "question-insult" threads.

"Is MKX the scrubbiest game ever?"
"Is MKX dead?"
