what does the TYM community think of DOA5 compared to MKX?

You can try, but unless your name is Elliot you're taking a 33/33/33 gamble at best on if you are just going to be juggled forever or not. Once you get to a certain level, it becomes much less worth it to break a combo unless you know 100% the opponent can't avoid it (which most can outside of like... Rig and maybe Zach).
I get to notice that, besides i don't care much about the holds either cause i main Akira, he got 12 launchers in this game, and i can use all of them efectively

Besides When facing someone who enjoying to escape stagger by hold, Akira is one of their worst nightmares.

As an Elliot main and since his hold game is super strong, I live and die by them.

Also Akira is everyone's worst nightmare anyways.

The existance isn't the question, its a matter of user choice. If you choose to play the girl characters with scantily clad outfits or the men in muscle shirts, fine but that is not of the game's doing. It is of your own.
The two most well known things about the franchise are the ridiculous boob physics and the 'volleyball' spinoffs.
Nobody says about Mortal Kombat "oh the violence isn't the game's doing, it's you who decided to kill the other guy"

Akira isn't even near the top of the tier list. That honor usually goes to Ayane, Christie, and Genfu. Akira is high at best, at least in Japan last I checked, but lower in US tier lists, where the game is considered more developed over Japan.

Yes, if you are looking only at surface value then jiggle physics and spinoffs exist.
Jiggle physics exist in any game, though. SFII Taki is the best example. But soul caliber isn't considered the same as DOA, despite probably having more titilation per female member than DOA does. Its a matter of poor perception, nothing more.

Thats because MKX is literally DESIGNED around violence and gore. Its not a byproduct, its a direct part of the engine. If you removed it, it ceases to be MKX. They even hyped up the fact that this is the goriest most detailed MKX. When interviewed, thats the highlight, the part of the game they pushed more than any other.

Jiggle Physics just kinda happen in DOA, but if you removed them its still DOA. It wouldn't suddenly be less impressive if Katsumi didn't bounce when she moved, but if you had an MK game without fatalities in it, it wouldn't be the same thing at all now would it?

Don't confuse a necessary part of franchise with an infamous byproduct of an engine.

His position isn't the issue, its the fact that he is a scrub-buster in the right hands on top of still being a viable threat. I'd wager on people getting tossed out of pools by an Akira before I would a Christie, but thats just my perspective.

Akira is the gatekeeper. If you can't pass, you don't deserve to win.

It's sad to me that having scantily clad women in a game is awful but ripping people's heads off is fine.

Like, I'm American where our culture is 100% Violence good, Nudity bad and even I can see how bullshit that argument is.

Thanks for making this thread, Jagged. I've been looking at it on Steam and thinking about playing it for a while. It's pretty expensive on Steam for a game that's been out this long, though.

Infamous byproduct of an engine? They designed and built their own engine. Each successive engine and game gets jigglier and jigglier. That doesn't "just happen", they're not trapped in a cycle, they're improving what they see as a necessary feature of their games. And they tout it as much as NRS touts the violence.

Don't confuse Team Ninja for some helpless prisoners shackled to ever-increasing amounts of jiggle forced to make volleyball game after volleyball game. They do it because they like it and because their fans like it.

I think if you removed jiggle physics and the she's-totally-18-you-guys kind of characters you'd end up with a somewhat watered down Virtua Fighter

I won't deny its existance, but I won't aknowledge it as part of the game itself. While I don't portray them as victims in a sense, I doubt they are just like "turn the jiggle up to 11"

I think you might be wrong. But in essence, all games are just watered down VF.

Soul Caliber had the option of dressing Ivy in a thin-strip set of leather covers, or a full sailor regalia complete with historically accurate commendation medals on it. In fact, barring perhaps 3 or 4 (one of which is a wrestler so she is in traditional luchadores costume), most of the other women are in very traditional, very covering outfits. Look at the base outfits for Kokoro, Hitomi, or Nyotengu. All of them are far from "sexy". I'd say the only base costumes arguable would be Rachel, Kitsumi, Tina Armstrong, and Mariposa. Helena strikes it close but gratuitous cleavage aside its a pretty basic outfit.
Pretty sure you quoted me out of context. I'm all for how the characters look. What I meant by integrity is they think having all these scantily clad people is ok, but "certain modifications" are not. Then they punish consumers with $300+ dollars in costume mods. Also on PC there's no soft engine. Disgusting business practices.

I personally think the fact that they have like 3 different jiggle settings in DoA5, the aforementioned 'volleyball' spinoff series and constant increases in jiggliness in both intensity and development time dedicated to it are evidence to the contrary

But in essence, all games are just watered down VF.
Well no

DLC is DLC, content isn't free to make. Though yes, my mistake for missing the context.

None of the costumes are required purchases.

Nothing's wrong with fan service. I'd rather have those characters than how fugly mk females are.
The OP was about the game mechanics. If you don't like boobs for some reason, try playing males. They don't jiggle. At least not visibly ;)

I dunno if this was already posted and i'm too lazy to check but... don't touch the PC version it's utter bullshit and up to this day I don't even know if they have a working multiplayer also it's a port of the ps3 version NOT the ps4 GG, yet another case where PC is getting the shaft.

What a day. What a lovely day.
There are no "underage" females in DOA5. That was an Itagaki thing, and he's not with the company anymore.

Get your facts straight before spouting false information that you've gathered from sources pertaining to only your personal bias.

Like I said. "She's totes 18 you guys"

I don't particularly care what your opinions are on it, but let's not pretend it doesn't exist.

She's 18. The only thing I'm pretending doesn't exist is the fact that you feel like debating it.

She's totally 18, you guys. Yep. For sure. She just happens to look, sound and act like a moe 12 year old.
I don't care if the lore says she's a 7000 year old vampire. Her character is that of a child

The only thing I'm pretending doesn't exist is the fact that you feel like debating it.
There's not really anything to debate

True. I try not to feel entitled to anything nowadays, because I just end up getting salty cause such and such costumes are in game and I don't have "the complete experience" for a set price. I understand they are a business and have to make money, but the amount they're charging is absurd. I'd have no problem paying something along the lines of what Capcom has done if I really wanted say an Akuma skin cause I main him. I do understand though.
