I guess so. ExBuff has more active armor frames, so you can take hit and then punish.
THIS IS GOOD. They eliminated this before and I couldn't Ex buff to interupt strings or pokes anymore. Now, I just Ex buffed through Goro's stomp as he landed on me and got a full combo punish. Same for Mileenas teleport and roll. Predator can't cancel pressure me without commiting to a block whenever I have meter and he can't start off a match with a D4 or Njp without thinking. It's a stronger tool again. This basically boosts Kano's potential for being a ticking time bomb.

Yeah the issue, as has been discussed, is that if you use it to eat something like a WU or a string you're going to be hit for say 5% and lose at least 7% doing your combo. So you'll be spending a bar to do 30+% damage but lose 10-15% for doing so. Now if he did his old damage this might be worth it but eh.

This would have been an amazing buff, before the 8/31 patch.


Now on the other hand it isn't worth. Pathetic Buffed damage is still pathetic and you'll be taking the hit damage + the DoT to do it. It is no longer worth it to do EX Buff interrupts unless you have a 2 bar total combo to close out around that they cannot breaker. That's literally the only reason to do it now.

This can still be useful for some of the characters who are hard to punish. It's probably linked into my playstyle :( I'm trying not to drop the character lol... Btw, He's getting a damage buff in the the next patch. I'll be deleting this post soon.

This helps me with some "hard to open" characters. I'm tired of guessing goros stomp or eating an untechable meterless 40% from goro in the corner. I honestly think Kano is legit, give it time

Why would you eat the damage to do the Ex-buff if you want to armor through something, when you could just do an Ex-Kano Ball cancel instead?

But what if it is a move that is safe on block but not when flash parried? or what if you have them in range to kill in one damage boosted combo but not a normal un boosted punish? It is a flash parry into a damage boost, believe me it is good

There are very few wakeup options in this game that are completely safe at all times, most are punishable on block or can be low profiled/crouched under and then blown up. And then you can always just walk back and whiff punish them.

It's better to just block the wakeup or whiff punish it if it's safe rather than flash parry since the damage of the attack + the DoT will be around 20%, and flash parry combos only do like 2% more than normal Ex DB1 combos. Trust me, it's not a good move anymore.

It something that covers multiple options though, its not something that works everytime but its certainly not useless. Either they wake up and you absorb it or they dont and you get it out and mix them up. OR lets say you are facing Tanya and you dont want to have to guess between overhead or low when you knock her down, now you dont. And I think the idea with the damage boost isnt to just do a raw combo if its doing not much more, just keep them standing with the normal DB1 and go for another reset and on that one go for the EX DB1 combo while damage boosted from before

OR lets say you are facing Tanya and you dont want to have to guess between overhead or low when you knock her down, now you dont. I agree with this, I'm working with footsies and reads for the mix ups while losing health but if the opponent has no meter after keeping them standing with DB1.. its a safe overhead or low option into heavy punish or he can bait armor reversals. I think it's all preference from here on out, if you don't want to make the reads and focus on run canceling "on hit" set ups and focus on staying safe throughout the match, while gambling life... then it's time to drop Cutthroat Kano :( ..damage boost on the way though and he'll be better than solid.

Well, ExBuff prepatch was a perfect move, it had armor, damage and no DOT. Then thay changed it to DOT and damage reduction x2 and no armor (it was back later but with a slim window). Now they extended the armor frames. An you are telling me that next time he will get damage buff? Seems like NRS does not know what to do with ExBuff... 2 more patches and ExBuff will be just like the prepatch/hotfix one. xP

Against characters with one, unsafe wakeup, it makes sense to not worry about flash parry. The option becomes beneficial vs characters who have two or more different wakeups that serve different purposes, like Erron. I can see flash parry being strong vs them.

I'm not sure if people are understanding Ex buff in detail now.

If you do flash parry and absorb the wakeup you take a minimum of 14% damage as well as lose your knockdown followup or you take 20%+ in damage and continue your pressure on knockdown, your combo will do 43%. But if they don't wakeup then you've lost 1 bar, lost your pressure on wakeup, and start taking DoT since the flash parry can't be done on reaction to most wakeups.

If you just block/read and avoid the wakeup, you don't take any damage besides chip, your combo does 41%, and you get to continue your knockdown pressure.

There really is no comparison here. Pre-patch the move was good since it actually did more damage and didn't drain health. Now Ex Buff is just a lazy man's tool in every way. If you want damage then do optimal Ex DB1 combos, if you want pressure then use Ex knives, if you wanna blow up wakeups then just block.

@Derptile It is pointless to explain ExBuff to people that did not play CT before, because they do not know that prepatch/hotfix ExBuff had armor, no DoT, etc. and was overall much better than in its current state. They just notice it now because it is in patch notes.
