Question - Goro Why does this happen?

I was fighting against a Cassie player last night and couldn't really figure out why my SG was whiffing, so I went to the lab against Cassie and figured this garbage out.

@colt with the patch changes the the characters hitboxes get fixed or the moves themselves?

Pretty much what happens is when Cassie does a D1 then blocks for example she avoids the range of the SG, but when she does a D1 then does NOT block she gets hit.

Anybody else having problems with any other character?

This has always been a problem with Cassie. Tick throws don't work consistently on her if crouch blocks and occasionally point blank throws will whiff on her.

I feel like the command grab has other hitbox problems - it often whiffs on people right in front of me for no readily apparent reason - but it's harder to replicate

The more and more I see or hear about these hitbox/hurtbox issues, the more I think there should be a centralized, organized thread concerning the topic.

These issues are really annoying, and I feel like the best way to bring attention to them is to have a thread that points out what each characters strings whiffs on which characters.

When crouching she leans forward with her head up. When crouch blocking she leans back with her head down. The d+1 is causing push back which moves her into a range where the grab is iffy. It has nothing to do with the d+1 though that just leads to that range. From the start if you dash up to Goro then takes two steps back you're in the same range where you can hit her crouching but not crouch blocking.

Well that sucks. Since this is Goro's best / Fastest punish.

Thanks for the explanation, just very odd how a character can avoid a move by blocking rather than not blocking.

I hope that gets fixed one day.

Ok, I'm doing some more testing and I think I see what's happening. It's not a Cassie problem, it's the way the hitbox on grab is shaped. It does not extend to the ground like normal throws and the bottom of the hitbox gets higher the further out it goes. So at longer ranges it's easier to low profile. This is easy to test with d1~grab. If d1 connects the grab will never whiff of standing opponents. But if you set them to crouch block (in practice mode use movement crouch and stance block) the grab no longer connects at full range and smaller characters you basically have to be point blank.(you don't have to use d1 for this, you can just look at the spacing and see, it just gives you something to compare ranges)

All that's happening in your video is her hitbox is higher when she neutral crouches. Neutral crouch doesn't actually lower hitboxes, it just puts you in a state that's immune to highs.

Yeah, I want to do more testing with this, this video was made around 1 am. Thanks for the pointers though.

@AoK Ryan On the brightside, the patch actually made this slightly better, at least in regards to Cassie. I'm pretty sure she had some sort of breathing hitbox thing that occasionally let her crouch naked command grab even while her head was basically in Goro's crotch. My main training partner plays Cassie so I had to deal with that shit a lot, but I haven't been able to replicate it post patch.

I want to know if every other CG in the game works. Can we get some testing going and see if it's only Goro or not.

Because NRS uses 3D breathing hitboxes...which don't seem to work well. I guess they look better but they don't function well at all.

You will BOW to me!
This happened to me today too, in the corner and in midscreen as well, even after a point blank blocked d1xxSG... I believe Goro's SG range has been either stealth nerfed, or its a bug caused by the latest patch/hotfix.

This has always happened to me a lot and pretty much why I stopped going for tick grabs off of D1/D3. Lost way too many matches where I conditioned them to block, only to die cause the grab whiffs.

Sheeva isn't Goro's wife. Goro is her husband.
The hitbox of the throw doesn't reflect what you're seeing visually.

I really hate how SG range is different against different characters

Against kung Jin I can only do a single crouching 1 into SG (and sometimes even that whiffs) but against Jason I can do 4 of them.
