Question - Hunter Predator vs Kung Jin

I've been messing with hunter as of late instead of hish-qu-ten as I'm a big fan of trap characters as well as a big cyrax fan and this seems like the closest variation to him. I've been fairing decent against most match ups but there are a couple where I just can't seem to get the traps set up and get my game started.

Kung Jin is definitely giving me the most trouble, I absolutely hate playing against him. Predator's njp is no match for Kung Jin's stupid wooden stick with ridiculous half screen range. I have a hard time punishing his combos because a lot of them push back a little too much for a lot of mine to reach on the first hit. Plus he can fly over traps with the flying kick that looks like it was stolen directly from Liu Kang. Have a hard time reading when he's going overhead/low as well because his combos are pretty fast and similar looking. So can anyone help me develop a game plan for taking on Kung Jin with Predator's Hunter variation? Really hate hearing his stupid little catch phrases when he does win, ugh.

You never said which jin variation you're talking about. Throw traps from the air, far away from his up 1 range if you're fighting bojutsu, jin has no way to convert off of distanced anti airs in that one.
Rush ancestral down with your 50-50s, unblockabls, and loops and better damage than Jin.
Play with variety against Shao-Lin.
Your B2 is faster and equal if not more range than Kung Jin's B2.
Press that button and cancel into ex landmine to start your pressure, Jin will start using meter to get out, win the meter game, win the match--

How you gonna steal my avatar? Man thats fucked up.
lol whoops, wouldn't have done that on purpose. just changed it after I posted this thread cause I saw it sitting there in my pictures and thought damn, that looks pretty cool haha but no worries I'll find another one.

Thanks for the tips Killabyte, yes forgot to mention which variation sorry. It is mostly bojutsu that I play and I have a harder time with that variation's guessing game. Ancestral is annoying too though because those stun arrows are fast as hell and can hit low, have a hard time closing the distance against that variation.

Why isn't Jax's Farm a playable stage?
If he is doing that lame spam njp, then just put an ex trap under him and he will fall right on it for an easy 32%-35%.

If you have the Smart Disc out. He can't use the air at all. Smart Disc makes Predator dominate the skies. Plus, Predator has one of the better neutral jump punches in the game.

thanks for the replies, smart disc and ex traps definitely seem to be the best way of neutralizing his njp. another thing i wanted input on is if there's an ideal way of dealing with the hish-qu-ten fuckers who just spam the laser non-stop from full screen. is there anything besides just ducking them and slowly advancing you can do with hunter? i usually end up getting hit by the low lasers on the way in

They're not really fuckers, if you keep that attitude you won't get great. There's lots of ways to play this game.
BUT..
You could try tossing ex far landmine from the air, you'll be over the low laser and mid laser and you might earn a full fullscreen punish.

Jump and EX trap their feet. This will at the very least make them hesitate for a moment while you run to pressure.

Back to topic. Would anyone have a look at this and give me some suggestions versus Kung Jin?

Besides I am playing against another (less experienced) Kung Jin at 52.31, if anyone wants to have a look.

Any advice would be appreciated!
One thing I would say is using your d1. D1 is +1 on block then you can do your standing 2 (10 frame mid) string or use f12 (F1 is 8 frame high) to create your offense. When going into the 3, 2 mixup EX the low lazer as its safe if all 3 lazers are blocks. When Using B2,2 hit confirm SS for 38 or so % damage.

When at fullscreen whenever the opponent was knocked down should be the opportunity you throw the disc out and keep it out while shooting lazer. Do realize that the disc is active when out. So if a lazer and the disc hit you break his flying kicks armor. Personally I would think its pretty tough to react to the disc everytime. With that you can condition him to random armor flying kick and bait and punish the move on block.

Oh also. D4 is -15 on block. But I believe if canceled into close low lazer it's safe. So try d4 close low lazer and d4 disc throw for a mixup.

Like a couple other people said, the smart disc ended up being my greatest tool against kung jin as it helps to keep him more on the defensive and you can use it as an anti-wakeup tool for kung jin's ex air kick

This video shows what I mean.
Basically I try and get the disc out whenever possible, even if it means sacrificing a little damage to use smart disc instead of scimitar stab at the end of a combo but then again I am using hunter so it may be slightly different for HQT. I would say with HQT to try and zone a bit more probably especially against bojutsu, when they run up mid range you can do the low laser and if they get hit by slash damage run up for the grab while they're stunned. I usually use neutral jump punch with predator quite a bit since his is so good but against Kung Jin I would say don't do njp as much and try to stay as grounded as possible, kung jin's 1,1 string is a good anti-air. When I do jump I end up jumping backwards most of the time and throwing out my smart disc/traps. Hope that helps.

First I'd like to thank for your advice! Much appreciated!

While d1 offers a plusframe, it is still slower than d3 (which also hits low). B22d2 into d3 is a nice frametrap, because d2 is +2 on block. When I expect my opponent to press buttons, then I use d3.

Regarding this wake-up tech: First i think 122~disc has better damage scaling and works just as good. Then this tech forces you to keep on attacking up close which HQT doesnt want vs Kung Jin.

However I agree with jumping backwards and setting up a disc before landing! This helps a lot against many rushdown characters and I should have done that more!
