F0xy Grampa's Sort Of Write Up

A F0xy Grampa

Here's somewhat of a recap of the past couple weeks, typed on the phone so sorta gave up tagging:

So it began by getting a flight with @PND Ketchup and @PND Mustard from London Heathrow. Thanks to Krystal from ESL (my american guardian angel) we were allowed to fly in economy plus, or as Ketchup says 'were economy plus! You know we're moving up in the world because that puts us slightly above scum!'

11 hours with no inflight audio and 2 intense games of sudoku scattered inbetween, we arrive in LA, where by sheer chance we get the same super shuttle driver I got for the fans choice (a rather Niko Bellic type). Anyhow, we arrive at the safari inn, where perfect legend appeared to have arrived just moments before. The rest of that night involved us getting settled in, gradually seeing the other players arrive, watching sonic fox playing Nidhogg with his brother, and his display of the brokenness of predator.

Day 2, the day of all the theatrics, recording those intro videos for ESL finals. Massive props to the shaolin brother Carl, 'thisssssss, is godlike!' As well as the 'Madzin...? I will break him...' from Lar. Many laughs were had that day.

Quick shoutout to Carl's terminator 2 Sarah Connor fence pose haha.

ESL finals day: long story short, I'm an idiot and deserved to lose for playing like that lol. European hopes for the finals were dead with me and Madzin. Still though was a sick show, and am happy for sonic fox for winning (secretly I'm his biggest supporter).

Although ESL was the most important tournament on my list, I failed most at it, which in turn meant I had to force myself to be better for EVO, which in all honesty, I only wanted to be there for a laugh.

Massive shoutouts to ESL for organising all of this, pretty sure you've given both myself and sonic fox some life changing opportunities! (Seriously though NA, stop the fox, and Europeans, stop the grampa!) ESL IMO is the driving force for a future where gaming could legitimately become a career.

I'll use myself as an example, after the launch of MKX, and announcements of such massive prize pot tournaments, and winning a few of them, I decided to leave my job, and see how far I could take these chances, the gamble paid off, as I've now earned more in 3 months of mk than I would have in 2 years of working my old job.

On that Sunday was the European invasion of egp, where one of the PND boys won, and all 5 euros that entered, made the top 5. Mustard winning it was a good confidence boost for the twins, considering him and ketchup haven't played in tournament for a year. It wasn't like this egp wasn't stacked either. The egp crew are all good people, very welcoming, Tyrant is definitely a geezer :p

The night after egp the legendary Brian Compton & family allowed us to stay at theirs for the night, which I am very grateful for. You have a lovely home and it seems like you're living the American dream :p. I hope the future is bright for this dude and his family.

After ESL & EGP was all said and done it was off to Vegas, most of the week was spent listening to various catchphrases of a particular Russian or a particular German. 'Naoooooooo' and 'Yeaaaaaahhhh!!!!' respectively.

Come EVO weekend, Madzin had helped my figure out my weakness in game, and it was something I really addressed and it shows, sweeping my way to grand finals, 2-0ing everybody on the way, except big d which was 2-1. So I owe a lot of my performance that weekend to Madzin.

Also well done to ketchup for getting 5th, hopefully we can put the 'Europe can't compete' thing to rest.

Yet again congrats to sonic fox you little shit.

Effort for typing is feigning, sooooo massive shoutouts to all those who were a part of my journey! You know who you all are.

Oh yeah, ofcourse biggest shout of all to Overlord Grandmaster Spike, Elder God and saviour of the MK tournament scene. Without your guys support, we didn't exist, and hopefully you continue to keep us all 'employed'. (Really though thanks for all of this!)

Nice write up, good to hear everything is going well. Congrats again on your EVO performance, amazing showing. I'll definitely have to make it to EVO one year, looks like so much fun.

This mean you don't like me?
Having a time like that is all you can really hope or wish for when you travel so far to attend something so prestigious. Glad you had a great time, and hope this becomes the norm. Others should take note of they ever had reservations in the past.

With your level of skill, mindset, and overall amicability and charisma, I think that going all in on MKX was a good call.

Whether it be playing or working on one, your future is in fighting games.

EndofGameBoss

That's about right.
I guess your ecstatic a second season for ESL was announced? lol. My only question is why didn't you switch to Tempest after Fox switched to EB? You were rushing into the next match. I feel like you could of taken the whole thing, but those accomplishments are nothing to sniff at. Congrats.

@A F0xy Grampa That's awesome that you gave Madzin props for helping you close holes in your game before EVO.

Behind almost every great sports player in history is a great coach (even Infiltration, hehe) -- and I hope that's something more players start to realize and take advantage of in the future.

As the money continues to go up, I think there will soon be room for serious analysts, trainers, and coaches to help players reach and stay at their full potential, point out the mental mistakes and gaps etc., just like they do in every other sport.

Yeah I'm looking forward to season 2.

And my reasoning behind staying Buzzsaw was to avoid Kitana, but really I shoulda played tempest to avoid erron :p.

But I'm the same guy that used Rain against Cyrax at EVO 2012 so it must be another fault in my game plan :p

Part of my EVO experience was not only performing well, but seeing Mustard, you, omegaK and 12 Gauge all there ready to congratulate me on stage.

Always dreamed of the PND crew being on that main stage, so glad it finally came true. You've worked harder than any MK player so far with the sheer amount of travel you've done for the game out of your own pocket. I'm sure Sweden were really proud of you for winning MK Cup.

Knowing when to poke, backdash, pressure after 11212 on block or hat spin on block. It's crazy how the kung lao forums are full of basic questions when you can just watch this guy play and learn from it.

Looking after old folks with dementia, alzhiemers, schizophrenia and depression. On an elderly mental health ward.
Ditched the elderly to play video games. I respect it. Lol.

It's good to hear that your hard work is paying off dividends. Now you just need a sponsor.

Hah love you too foxy grampa <3
I hope to see you and all the other players from EU some time soon! That was so much fun at ESL and EVO!
