Strategy - Raiden Raiden's F4

I'm not sure if this is known or not. I've searched the forums and found nothing related to this, although I'm sure it is known.

But Raiden's F4 takes priority over any characters slide.

If an opponent is close enough and tries to slide you can F4 and sometimes you'll go over their slide, if not it'll take priority and hit them.

This is obviously not on reaction, but on read.

It's very easy to read when an opponent you know has a slide and is about midscreen from you. Very useful against SZ and EB. Those are the only chars I tested this against.

If I do f4 on sub zero's wake up will he eat the 9% without me getting hit?
If you're close enough, you'll go over it. If not, he'll eat the 11%.

You'll tend to go over his ex-slide when you're closer to him. At max distance, you'll land the F4. There's a small range where you'll eat the slide, but every time I do it I go plain over the slide and I imagine it annoys them.

Does it break the armor when you connect with it?

If you have to do it on a read, then what's the point? Every slide in the game is punishable. If you think he's gonna do it, then your best option by far is just to block it instead of possibly making a bad read and leaving yourself at -12 or getting hit out of that slow startup.

Scorpion's slide is -32
Sub-Zero's slide is -22
Erron Black's slide is -25 (EX is -15)
Reptile's slide is -22 (EX is -25)

These are moves that you WANT to block.

I like to see it as more of a mind game tactic. If you show an opponent you have more than one response to one of their moves I'm sure they'll be more hesitant. Not to mention infuriate them when you hop over their go to slide.

As a TG Raiden, who wouldn't want a mad and hesitant opponent? You can go to work after that while they're still thinking about what happened.

I agree w infamy but I do find it more useful punishing low projectiles that you cant low crush w superman. It works vs LK low fireball, KL low hat. Not sure if superman low crushes Mileena low sai, does punish EB low bomb, unsure of FT low toss.

Don't know why anyone would do this when the move is -11 on block and you can just block those slides for full combos. Not trying to be a jerk. I just think there's already a wayyyyy better option.

I'm not saying this is the best option. I'm just saying that it is an option.

I haven't really had a lot of time to play and explore every move this character has and the match ups so when I found this I was surprised.

This is also new to me I didn't know you could superman over LK's low fireball. Will try when I get home tonight, thanks.

I may have worded my post wrong. You can low crush all low projectiles w f4. The only ones I know superman low crushes are EB low bomb and KL low hat. Almost positive superman works vs mileena low sai as well

I noticed it low crushed tons of stuff, particularly d4s from most chars. However being punishable on block makes it pretty unusuable. If it wasn't punishable I could see this being usable in footsies.

This move is another example of "why is it even in the game"?

Predator has almost same F4 yet its +2 (maybe 0) on block, while Tremor and Raiden have them and they are full punishable.

I appreciate the responses guys.

I was testing this out with a friend and it doesn't work as well as I originally thought. I can sneak it in once a game just to cover some distance between the opp and me, but considering how slow and risky it is I prefer to just run in or play defensively now.

I tried experiment with that, but it doesn't seem very useful. Specifically, I tested it against Sub-Zero's slide and it only works from a very long distance. Anything closer than that and I get hit.
