Mortal Kombat X Patch Notes 7/2/15

Look at this from your quote: "Why do they have to release patches three days before a tournament that radically alter the game balance, throwing out weeks of lab work?"

How one is supposed even take this seriously? this is one hell of a overstatement, the patches don't require you to start from ground zero, people here already post videos showing exactly what changed since day 1. Then he calls for patches about hitboxes, glitches(both are being fixed as the game progresses) and weaker variations(which are being adressed as well), and he still calls out NRS for not hiring seasoned players for game testing, when capcom's last two games were Marvel 3(that needed a big change to the X-Factor and other characters changed), and SFxTK, which is already gone.

I like SF, like to watch and play, and would like to see players from other scenes playing MKX, may they do what they must, but please, don't be dramatic about it, the patches are tuning the game for the better(there was a poll here and the majority agreed the patches so far have been a step in the right direction), things so far have been reasonable, NRS top players are still playing and succeeding.
First off, your examples are flawed. Marvel didn't get a legit gameplay overhaul until UMVC3 NINE months later. SFXT was doomed from the start by gems, dodgy gameplay mechanics, poor balance and underdevelopment of their own characters, and it still took almost a year (v2013) before a drastic gameplay overhaul made it a much better game. MKX has been out for fucking 2.5 months and has already seen very big changes in the characters as well as the meta, much of it due to patches. In comparison, Capcom takes a while to let the metagame play out before making sweeping changes, the core gameplay is rarely if ever broken to the point of unplayability because of rigorous testing (largely from pro players), the games get supported well after their release even with newer titles being developed, and the crowd sticks around a lot longer because of it.

NRS could have support for their games for much longer than they do if they adopted that mentality. I would love to see MK 9 injustice and MKX continue to receive patches even now because there's tons of potential in all of these games, I just wish they wouldn't be so knee-jerk with the changes so early in the game's life. Or at least make more incremental and reasonable changes in the game itself like the netcode, proper balancing of their DLC characters, rewarding proper defensive play, etc. I have no problem with patching and I think overall it's a good/necessary thing for the balance of MKX, but it's a different problem when a game requires so many patches early on in its life to get it to a balanced, competitive level, there are fundamental flaws present in either the gameplay or the testing.

Sure, they are fixing some of the glitches and hitbox problems, but some of the changes they make to the characters seem to be either pointless or shouldn't be a priority vs other, more glaring issues. Characters who already dominate like Scorpion, Kung Lao, Raiden and D'Vorah receive tons of buffs and nerfs and largely maintain their dominance, while Sub Zero, Goro, Jacqui, F/T and Jason (just some examples) have serious flaws in their design or glitches that hurt the character's viability and get no attention. As shown with Tanya, Kitana and Kenshi, NRS DOES address a lot of those things, but improvements could definitely be made. Netcode should be the number one priority first, because if your game can't be played online consistently than no one's gonna care. There should be a conversation on how much EX/stamina meter is being used for both breakers and backdashes, because the heavy penalty for using them really hurts defensive play, which overalls hurts the character versatility and game play itself. Lots of the glitches and stuff in the game should never have been there since day one if they were seasoned developers and knew what they were doing, which goes back to the larger, industry-wide issue of game publishers releasing a beta and patching it as they go. Hiring experienced players to sit down and attempt to break the game/find dirt can and do point out a lot of those little flaws that are caught on day one and so forth.

Depends on the skill of the player, man. Quan's still high on the list, he could probably win a major, heck anyone top 10ish and above has a high chance of winning a major
He basically has to always get the first hit. And hope he doesn't run into characters with insane pressure like jax or shinnok. But with these nerfs who knows

Incredible that SCEE still doesnt have the patch... as soon as i saw Xbox/SCEE coming soon i knew it was gonna be this shit... Coming soon for NRS is never a few hours, its always a few days or weeks...

What is disingenuous, Rude, is to pretend that we have zero impact on how the game is patched. It would be stupid of them not to take all of these real life testers opinions into consideration. "Into consideration", not "do exactly what they want".
I'm curious what message you think our "real life testers" are actually sending. Can you honestly point to a nerf / buff that the community has maintained a consistent message on? Can you even think of a character it maintains a consistent opinion on?

The only one I can see is Goro is bad, and he is to date untouched.

And yet NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE about Dualist Liu Kang's gimmicky garbage toolset. In a tier list that has all the variations listed, he is the absolute bottom tier if not bottom 5.

NRS PLEASE!

You said that the game is changed drastically, to the point where weeks of work you put is thrown away, which is not true.

Scorpion and Lao were just nerfed, Raiden, Kung Jin and Sonya nerfed a while ago, D'Vorah was nerfed as well, all of those characters remain strong, but more fair to deal with, F/T, Goro, Kitana, Kenshi and Jacqui received buffs(among other characters like Shinnok), from Jason to upcoming Predator, all the patches for the most part have been aiming to reduce the gap between characters, there are still ways to go, but they are doing it in small doses, be it nerfs or buffs, they are not completely twisting the characters to the point where it's another game, which is what some people are making it look like. The patches have been pretty tame so far, hence why i'm calling out on all this drama about patches, you listed a lot of things you wanted to be changed, and they are doing it in small steps, if they did drastic changes people would complain because the game is changing too much and too fast, if they did nothing, people would complain about the dirt that is not fixed, if they do it step by step(which is the way i believe and the way they are doing) people still complain, there is no way out.

Netcode is and will always be the main issue, it's not even clear if it can be much improved, this is an issue that i believe that very few people are qualified to talk about, because it's highly technical, i know i can't, i want it to improve but, i don't know if that's actually a possibility.

And my examples about those games were, that every company face issues with balance and whatnot, they took longer to do something about it in those examples, but the issues were there, even with the testing, NRS is already seizing the moment to start fixing, little by little, which is why i dispute when i hear people saying that "i'm dropping the game because this changes too much", which i strongly disagree, if a person is just not feeling the game anymore, then so be it, Netcode is underwhelming? i agree, but to say the patches are re-inventing the game, i will call BS on that one. The matches i've been watching in streams still follow the suit of the game when it was first released, but with more fairness, it's not by chance that the faces you see reaching top 16 and 8 at tournaments are still there.

The game changes every week... it's a fucking joke and so is our cry baby ass community.

Mommy nrs here to the rescue.
So as I can't give more than one like on this, I'll add that you all should be thankful to NRS. If you're not satisfied now, 20 of july (and on) your wishes may come true.

The developers provided a whole new genre.
MKX is the first Whining Game.

Do you call +12 à real nerf ? He is still free to pressure after that. Its à bigger one for shinnok because he stay far
Hat pressure still works, but it limits the strings he can use to follow-up. It's not as braindead anymore, makes the jail more predictable. I hate Tempest KL as much as the next guy, but I'm not sure I'd want them to squash the tech entirely ...

that shinnok nerf is barely a nerf
on boneshaper. On the other 2 it killed any chance of them getting a top 8 ever.

If you didn't see an impostor or necromancer shinnok hit top 8 you're not going to see them now. Nerfed his best tool because boneshaper shinnok is strong due to a week old patch.

Homogenizing character tools without looking at each characters strenghts seems to be the only thing NRS is good at.
