Match-Up Discussion - Mileena Mileena Matchup Discussion

I'd say there a good numbers of characters who have specials/disjointed hitboxes which make Clones more manageable. I only see Telekick being useful if Sub is throwing out Clones fullscreen which never really happens. Any other ranges and you might as well go for EX-Roll since the outcome would be the same if they blocked either move.

That's off naked Ice Clones mind you. Anything else into Clone and you're eating a combo.
Well I meant string into clone. If you block B33 and do Telekick, will it come out fast enough to hit him during the clone recovery?

So I've made up a pseudo MU chart for Mileena, mainly to get some advice on some of them. Some discussion on mu's needs to start happening so we all can start leveling up. All this tech and combo talk is all well and good, but it'll do none of use any good if we don't know how to fight the rest of the cast.

I'm just gonna list the ones I feel are Comfortable. Or Uncomfortable. Comfortable meaning I feel the mu is advantage or even to Mileena. Or uncomfortable to me but could be even or possibly advantage. I just might have trouble in that particular mu.

I know this might seem odd, but I don't think listing mu's Advantage/Even/Disadvantage is appropriate at this time.

Comfortable:
Jason
Takeda
Kitana
Sub Zero
Jacqui
Johnny Cage
Erron Black
Reptile
Tanya
Kenshi

Uncomfortable:
Kung Lao
Jax
Sonya
Scorpion
Cassie Cage
Kung Jin
Shinnok
Kotal
Ferra Torr
Ermac
Liu Kang
D'vorah
Raiden
Quan Chi
Goro
Kano (mainly Cybernetic)

@Rest of the Mileena players.
I agree for the most part; however, I definitely do NOT feel comfortable against the Grandmaster. I don't know about Ethereal or Piercing, but I always have trouble with him in Ravenous. To me, it feels like the match is in his favor, but that's just in my experience.

One more difference for me, is that I feel very comfortable in the Kano matchup. That could be because I've been playing against Kanos since day one, but I don't feel like he gives her much trouble in any variation. He doesn't dare try to zone her, and he's very easy to whiff punish. This is all my opinion, of course, but I hope it helps.

As a former Sub main that made the jump to Mileena I will say I've labbed up against Sub. B33 while -8 is a safe string against Mileena due to pushback. She has to respect it. Projectile trades are obviously not in her favor which is why peircing is a good variation here because it will go under iceball and can also hit slide if he tries to read your projectile. So during the neutral game you want to react to what he's doing so as not to get walked into the corner by using sai to maintain your screen position or force him to move in on you. Or you can do raw telekick on reaction to iceball you can even due this on a read to beat raw clone. Even if clone is out Mileena can hit sub during startup and recovery of iceball and break the clone. Meaty F12 kills subs wake up options. Blocked overheads can always be punished with roll even if you're locked down in the corner due to Subs hurt box not being completely covered by clone. B12 is a great footsie string due it being able to outrange Subs d4. I believe Subs only safe strings into clone are b33, f4, and I want to say f42 due to to spacing.

any non ex clone cancel thats isnt 4~clone cant be punished with ex roll

What is Sub's B2 on block?
*-13.
she can reversal punish with roll BUT not if b2 hits at max distance (creates to much pushback)
you cant punish with roll after the njp, njk, clone setup unless he took a step forward to fake out doing the low, d2 will do the job on a blocked b2 behind the clone though

Njp, njk doesn't setup spaced overhead. He only gets spaced overhead off 242 njp, bjp njk and off any clone freeze combo into njp bjp njk or dash in slight step back njp njk. I think he may get it off b33d3 as well.

Only -9? Seem to remember the frame data saying -13 on block unless it has changed as I haven't looked at it for a while.

Also finding Tanya super annoying as in her Dragon variation it seems her pogo stance kills all AA attempts with roll.

What are you doing to in the Kano mu? He out footsies us, zones us, trying to teleport to beat is zoning is more on a read since his knives are so fast. And his wakeup game beats out f12 and s3.

I need help in this mu.

@RM Yoaks why not just stand outside of the range where knives is reactable, and buffer bd and confirm 4 into roll, or jumping in on reaction to stop his zoning? As far as I know he needs bar to reversal safely so even while he may be safe hes sacrificing meter, to be 1 frame out our punish window, And he doesn't get mileage out of it outside of a get off me move, so why are you afraid?

I totally got creamed when someone zoned be out using Jacqui Briggs' Full Auto variation, where she'd just sit at full distance and use Hand Cannon the whole time and block low then uppercut when I try to get in via Teleport Kicks.

Most of the Scorpions I fight often try to overwhelm, so blocking is the last thing on their mind. That said, slow the pace of the match and abuse the low sai if you're at a decent distance away. Usually Hellfire players abuse the hell out of Ground Fire, which can be blocked low. I usually punish them by setting them up using a F4,4 then using 32xxBD4 or F3,4xxDB4 once they wakeup.
I think full auto is so unfair

You can't punish his knives from reaction range.

@RM Yoaks yea which is why I said stand out of that range. Common SF tactic is to walk in and out of the range where you can't react to fireballs with the goal to bait a bad fireball and punish. No reason why that same tactic can't apply.

Teleporting on knives is definitely done by making reads, but I think the threat of teleport alone usually stops him from trying to throw more than one at a time. It might definitely be in his favor, but it is one I'm comfortable in, so I don't think it's that bad.

Cutthroat actually gives me the most trouble because of his long-reaching normals and his lack of dependance on zoning. One of my main focuses in the matchup is trying to utilize the backdash to get out of trouble, then punishing his whiffs with Ball Roll. I have the most success with this against Kano. Also, I never try to challenge him in the air as Mileena. I think it's always best to play patiently and defensive against him, both in the air and on wakeup. I believe Mileena should be able to pester him with sais if he fears the teleport properly, and Roll goes under all knives, even Cybernetic, so he shouldn't be using them at any distance against her. Each knife should be a roughly 30% risk to him. Is there anything in particular that's giving you trouble?

Long reaching normals... Mileena's backdash... success...
...really?

OK guys I need your help on how best to handle flame fist Lui Kang ... What are Mileena's options when Kang is in and starts a string in bicycle punches then cancels into another special ?

So Ermac (Master of Souls mostly) ...

Can't zone because of teleport
D3/pokes are better
Fairly safe strings if not cancelled into specials

Only chance I see is if he makes a mistake by throwing out an unsafe special. Any dirt on this floaty bastard?

So I did a little testing concerning Cassie's B124 string.
- Mileena can armor through the final hit with either EN Roll or X-Ray
- If she blocks the whole string, Cassie is at adv. But most of Cassie's followups can be Reversal Thrown out of.
- Mileena can backdash between the 2nd and Last hit as well, BUT... If Cass does another B1, you end up having to block once again. So all you really accomplish is getting closer to the corner. You CAN double backdash to escape this, but it's pretty expensive on your stamina for such a hard read.

- If Cass follows up the string with D3, you can't Jump out. It will juggle you into her staple B1 stuff again. Roll won't beat it either. (Kicks stuff Roll or something) You can armor through of course, or just guess Low and Block giving you back the advantage.

There might be other stuff, but that's all I found at the time.
Hardest matchup for mileena, easily.
