Troubles with Noob

I was just in a KotH match on XBL a few minutes ago, and the guy that was dominating the Hill was a Noob player. I have nothing against the character, just the people who are really spammy. I'm guessing you can tell where this is going.

The whole match consisted of either sitting on one end of the screen and throwing out tackle or slide, and if he got close all he did was jump on both sides of me and punch, so I couldn't block low or get hit by and overhead into a combo, and if I let my block down i eat the punch and get fucked. I was playing as Jade, so obviously that made things more difficult but I like her character a lot and I'm determined to learn her playstyle. But how do you get around these kinds of Noobs? I try not to let nerves get to me but I get really frustrated when I play people like this because I can't get around the pressure. I know you can jump over tackle, but then he can just teleport slam. Like dafuq?

So other than getting around spammy Noobs, how else can you handle pressure on this game? How to react to pressure? Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I'm new to the forums :eek:

When someone tries to cross you up, you can attempt to anti-air by low poking, don't recall how reliable Jade's pokes are. Back when I would play Sub-Zero in MK9, I would just lower my hitbox with d3 and their jumpover punch would whiff. You can also counter crossovers with well timed neutral jump punches into a combo.

I don't recall, but doesn't Jade's invincibility negate Noob's shadow projectiles? You can't just walk through them?

You're gonna wanna do lots of glow with Jade. All of his projectiles will go through you. So, flash, and throw an ex-rang (which in most cases will also interrupt his teleport). Once he figures out he can't do shit with his projectiles, you can bait out a tele, full punish off of b1. If he tries to worm his way in,you've U3 and b2(better obviously, as you can get a full combo of this). Noobs shouldn't give you too much trouble, the key is making him come to you.

Thanks, this is definitely helpful. Are pokes mostly your down1,2,3,4 moves? Or are they something different? And yeah I could have used her projectile phase thing, but I forget about that sometimes when I play as her. I'm still really new with her yet..

If someone is spamming and you can't beat it, then you're more of a noob than they are.

The way to get around it is to stop making excuses, stop belittling other play-styles, and to put in work.

Interesting! Thanks for your helpful replies :) I've definitely gotta start using her glow more.

I'm sorry you took offense to this. I never said I was the best player around, I'm obviously not or else I wouldn't have come here asking for help. I didn't make any excuses. If I lost the match then it's obviously my fault for playing poorly. I didn't say he was bad, he knew his combos, I just couldn't figure out what to do. And if I'm playing the game then I'm putting in work.. And I'm asking for help so I can get better and put in more work..?

She's got a lot great reaching normals, so you'll need to learn the reach of those and then make your opponent respect that. It's been a while since I've played mk9 but her f1,2,1; b3,4; b2; and f4,3 are great. Rangs won't be super effective against noob as they have horrible startup and he should be teleporting those on reaction. She's an uphill battle in general with most of the cast but noob should be one of the more straightforward matches

Okay, so how can you make them respect her range?

usually people write dickish posts to get this sort of reply, u literally just asked for help lol dont apologise, if you are on xbox i can play u some - be careful using glow too early or late and yer fucked , the thing about noobs clones is u have to block low or overhead for his projectiles , also if u have meter u can use jades ex kick i think it has armor to blast through dont be afraid to block his clones as they are very punishable once youre in jump range wait for a clone to come out then u can punish with a jump in or armor

Haha okay, well thanks. I suppose I shouldn't have named the thread "Nooby Noobs" if I'm losing a 6-4 matchup in Jade's favor. Other projectile spam I can get around like Liu Kang for example, but the Shadow Tackle is the size of Noob so jumping over it can be tricky or he'll catch you :/ Yeah I'm down to play some if you'd like, my gamertag is Altanic. Interesting about her shadow kick armor, I didn't know it had that. Thanks for your help!

Show em what ya got! EX glow kick goes nearly full screen, and through projectiles. Staff overhead and flash kick are both safe on block, but you can be hit out of them, so it's best to cancel into them from your further reaching normals (f2,1, 2 is also safe on block, b3,2 is safe, 3 is safe). You'll also have luck walking in/out of b2 range to encourage your opponent to jump in.

Learn her punishes, get folks to do dumb shit. Plenty more deets in the Jade forum here.

Oh I see c:
Neat that Staff overhead and flash kick are safe on block, I didn't realize that. I usually try not to overhead slam a lot on block because I usually get punished for it ;-;
I didnt think f212 was safe either, if you do f21 doesnt the last 2 not come out if they block? maybe I should check that....

Interesting stuff though. Lately I've been so focused on just learning my characters combos so I can at least compete that I forget about all this other stuff.

I may be thinking of the wrong string; again it's been a minute since I've been in MK9. You'll have some trouble getting folks to block low, the low rang/ex low rang/342 string can help, but her big damage comes from the overhead slam combos so you'll need to train your opponent to block low, or bait them into unsafe actions and then punish with b1~overhead slam.

Good luck man! And tips for Kenshi: at select screen, pick another character :)

You might not be wrong, I'm just not entirely sure myself. I'll check though, I practice a lot so it's not a problem.
Haha ohmahgawd I've heard that matchup is like 9-1 Kenshi favor. Thats just... no. Poor Jade ;-;

Just use Kung Jin. Kung Jin always works.
Haha if only Kung Jin was in MK9. I'm sad Jade isn't back in MKX ;-; I know she isn't great in MK9 but she could definitely have been improved in the new game. Oh well, at least its something :)
Plus, that booty is still on point <3_<3

I miss the badasses like Noob Saibot and Jade. Now we have Takeda and Kung Jin. -.-
Lol right? I don't mind Takeda, I think his weapons are pretty cool but his personality is lame. He's like a 20 something year old teenager. Kung Jin is at least amusing though so I can forgive that. They should have taken out Jacqui and brought back a better Jade. Plus, I would be interested to see what Jade would have looked like without her skimpy MK9 outfits. Lol don't get me wrong ;) but to see a little more class with her would be nice.

TFW you realize this thread is getting off track x)
Oh, so not Jade specific, how do you handle pressure, and how to react to it? For character specifics, I play Reptile, Ermac, and Jade.

Damn. I didn't play any of those characters in MK9 so I can't help. I used Noob myself, but mainly Freddy and Kenshi.
