The top 8 started off with a bang as YOMI's SaltFace brought his Mileena to bear on Digit's Raiden. Although Raiden is one of the game's strongest characters at this point, Digit never looked completely comforatble in the matchup -- and SaltFace used his own familiarity with Mileena's options to frustrate Raiden's offense at every turn for the win.

A wildly unpredictable match then followed between Sonic Fox and Denzell Terry, with Denzell going to his trusty fisticuffs Johnny Cage. Although the match looked fairly even in the neutral, Denzell did an excellent job of cornering Fox at every opportunity; and ultimately Cage's whithering b12 onslaught thwarted every option Fox used to attempt escape.

After ForeverKing sent Gimpy home efficiently and a close match between Michaelangelo and MIT ended with MIT edging out the win, Digit and King went head to head for their tournament lives. Although Digit played well and absolutely refused to back down, King pulled tactic after tactic from his bad of tricks, using Kung Lao's ex hat spin pressure to chip Digit out in the final round for the win.

A high-stakes match between Sonic and MIT in Losers ended with Sonic maintaining control and sending MIT home. And in a barn burner of a match between Sonic and ForeverKing, King did his best to take Sonic to the limit, with Sonic maintaining his composure and staying just far enough ahead to keep King narrowly at bay. After DJT's patient pressure kept SalfFace boxed up in WInners' Finals, Sonic deftly navigated around Cassies 50/50s, defeating Saltface to meet Denzell again in Grand Finals.

And in one of the zaniest Grand Finals we have ever seen, Sonic Fox went up against Denzell's Fisticuffs Johnny Cage in a match that likely has to be seen to be believed. With Sonic knowing that every trip to the corner might mean sudden death, he did everything he could to avoid being cornered. And with the reset and ensuing matches taking things down to the final few games, Denzell made a last-minute switch to Kung Lao. Although the set was as close as could possibly be, Sonic finally (and barely) edged out the narrowest of wins in the clutch to win himself his first major in MKX.

Welll... I don't even know what you say about that.

People will be talking about this one for a while to come. Thank god for 50/50's saving the day against those evil b12 footsies :DOGE

In all seriousness though, I don't think anyone could have predicted how this tournament would turn out. Congrats to everyone who competed, and to @Mr Aqua for christening his brand new event.

Is SonicFox the most skilled and luckiest player of MKX? Is he this game's MJ? It's now hard for me to imagine any upcoming tournament where he isn't in Top 8.
