General/Other - Mileena The Mileena General Discussion Thread (All Variations)

Regardless if she is or isn't, being a bottom 5 character doesn't mean she's not viable. Viable but having to work more harder rather than less most of the time imo. Because Mileena's a character that's probably lower mid, characters like Kenshi, Shinnok, and Kitana are bound to get looked at for buffing before her. Most of that has to do with the players of those characters having a bigger voice or concern on the matter, but I think if Mileena is waited on to be looked at until later then she will be given justice when being buffed, rather than just being rushed or overlooked. For now I think it's nice that we discuss what can be done to help her but at the same time remember to nurture the growth of her current tools so that when she does get buffed, it will seem much more like an additional weapon than a "fix" or crutch.

Am I the only one that is super annoyed that you can't do her u+b, f1 air sai anymore in MKX? In MK9 one of my favorite things about Mileena was that air control that she had. Her instant air sais was imo one of the best anti-airs in the game and the fact that she lost that in MKX is bugging the hell outta me. I know she has major issues in general but frankly she was always a high risk-high reward character. I can work myself around some of her unsafety as I did in MK9. It's just that she completely lost one of her best tools that she had.

This may have already been mentioned in the 32 pages, but I just (re?)discovered that Mileena can cancel into air/telekick from aerial interactables. The two areas I've tried so far are the Dead Wood (she can cancel off the stump in the middle and the branch on the mid-right providing she wiffs the kick) and the Outworld Docks (the thing in the middle - works the same as the stump in the Dead Wood). MB versions work as well.

I'm on the PC and we haven't had the most recent patch yet, but I'm guessing you can now cancel them into x-ray as well...

Yeah I miss air sais just like I miss her d4 but she got things in other areas such as EX roll.

She can cancel into it from all the aerial interactables except the ones in the corner. For example, the tree on the Lin Kuei stage and whatever that thing is on Sky Temple. Not sure about the x-ray though.

You can do air sais still but they are just a lot harder to do with jump backs. You have to do ub, bf1 quite fast or if you have Input shortcuts on you can do:

ub, db, d, df1
Neutral jump, db, d, df1
Neutral jump, ub, bf1

A lot of inputs as it requires rolling the thumb/stick but these work for instant sais

I'm pretty certain you can cancel into xray from interactables.

This also reminds me is there any interactables that can be converted into a combo after using them? I know the swinging hook on the Kove you can cancel into roll but not sure about anywhere else

Takeda's and Kotal's placement in CB is proof that:

1. There is still a lot about the game we don't know.
2. Every character no matter what tools they have is dangerous in the hands of the right player.

I wholly agree with your first point, there seem to be a number of authority figures in a game that as of today is 6 weeks old.

The second point is valid as well, there are a lot of unknown matchups in this game so it can be seen in that way as well.

What do you guys do to cassie when you get a knockdown. Her ex flip is imo the best wakeup in the game. F1 can't stuff it because of how fast it is, it gives her a full combo, and she moves back so far that she can't get a good punish. The best answer I found is to back off and wiff punish it with an ex Tele.

yea ive been using ex telekick aswell, why aren't you fond of that? nice damage and if you dont have meter 13% into pressure isnt half bad.
roll can whiff punish but your spacing on it has to be so on point i dont think its worth the risk of the whiff.
ex roll will catch her before she cant block but i think ex telekick is better

I just get really salty whenever I back off to punish it and they just back dash and get out of her of her okI so I just wanted to see if anyone had better ways to deal with it. And I'll use the match up thread in the future.

ah right i get what u mean,if your just stepping back all the time why should they bother wakeup.
maybe try working of the 21u4 ender, that might give ya some more frames to fake out...or eh fake out the fakeout lol
i already dont have fun playing the mu though, fucking 5 frame laucher punishing all our shit :(

I haven't played the match much but essentially what you do is what I do. let it whiff and punish accordingly. If Cassie is cornered on knockdown and if I'm feeling super super SUPER on point I will go for F1 to stuff the wakeup (have only managed to do it in the corner but timing is hard so probably should block :))

How would you guys feel if we split off into Variation general discussions?

Also, Ravenous mains...I need your help. I am trying to learn this variation (for variety). I know all the tick throw setups, but what are you doing for setups, how are you encorporating b12 1+2 (are you?) and what is your general gameplan.

From what I understand from my limited testing is I want to condition my opponent to block low and start abusing pounce so I can use my pokes, and my strings. 2~low pounce is a tick on block. 21 is a low. I see that as the only true 50/50 in the variation exclusives (sans ex roll mixups which are unversal). HOWEVER, I do see that high pounce is only -7 on block making it quite safe against a lot of the cast.

Am I supposed to be pressuring with strings and mixing on the high pounce at the end to make them respect it then go into low pokes?

Anyone have some ravenous gameplay? I see potential, but im still in the early stages of wrapping my head around the meta.
