ya btw i saw that last post and i am not that @Sajam scrub. im actually good at fgs and would mop him up free if he ever accepted my online mm ft10 cage match streamed on his twitch. But honestly ill be surprised if he even decides to show his face back in socal after combo breaker since he's so scared of being exposed

but anyway good luck

Confidence is definitely something I lack. And the tip about running in after the 112 string is crucial. I guess I never realized you could do that but I think I could easily add that with some practice. Thank you sir
Definitely, you'll improve by playing, step by step, go to training mode and try some combos, but better yet, look them up here, see which ones you can pull off. If you can't land the most damaging combos, then don't use them yet, try less damage but simpler and reliable. Frame data is important too, slow moves are not likely to hit unless your opponent doesn't know how to block them.

You'll be surprised how much you can improve over time. When the game came out I just couldn't do those command grabs, let alone as a combo ender, and running jeesh, that was a mechanic I wasn't used to and never used.

By the way, I tried Erron Black after a while, and found him overwhelming, so I used other characters to learn the game. Now it seems I'll master Erron Black, got him down and it works well for me.

Where there is smoke, there is cancer.
It looks like your basics are fine. You're blocking, which is better than a lot of people! The only advice I really have is optimise your combos. I watched some of the Mileena match and saw that you're blocking her roll, or her teleport and all that stuff but you're doing a 14% punish. You could be cancelling his f12 into sand throw (whatever it's called, db4 I think) then doing a full combo. Just remember when punishing something, do the inputs just like in practice.

This is actually something from the footsies handbook but the message applies here:
Playing footsies the right way demands a certain core confidence. Without it, you’re just somebody’s training dummy. With it, you’re always making progress, always learning, always moving forward, even when a (temporarily) superior opponent destroys you. If you want to improve your game, eliminate doubt and play without fear. The rest will take care of itself.

I'd suggest reading the footsies handbook actually, it'll help you as a player if you read a couple of times :)

Against Kileena:
0.58 , 1.28: That should have been a full combo punish.
1.00: Good block
1.16 : Kick that jumping bit*h
1.34: good wakeup :)
1.46: free jump from her and unpunished teleport
2.12: good thing that you're running towards her after a hard knock down but the follow up is pretty poor, you could have attempted a mixup, the caltrop cancel is really risky and unrewarding.
2.15: no meterburn on the wakeup?

Against Kano:
4.00, 4.06, 4.36, 4.41: That should have been a full combo punish
4.26: Missed.
For some weird reason Kano isn't trying to zone you out.

- You are never capitalizing on your knockdowns.
- Too predictable: you're using way too much Erron's F1 string, which is quite unsafe on block.
- You aren't using any mixups that are a huge part of Erron's victory plan: B3 is deadly when combined with F1 and don't forget that you have also a command throw, you can always cancel a blocked F13 (or a poke) into that sh*t and between F1, B3, the motherfu*ing command throw (that should make you understand how much I love playing against Mr Erron) and the throw you'll be sending your opponent to guessing town.
- 21122 is a very good advancing and cancellable string and B12 is +1 on block: use them.
- You aren't hitconfirming your string nor using any damaging combos: F132 does 14% F13xx DB4, dash ,B32U1, njp, dash, 21122xx Command grab does 29% (to train set the A.I in the lab to random block).
- Overall you're nearly always on the defensive (13.45 that's how you use a poke).

I hope this helps.

I come from a Madden background. I see people spam certain plays/animations all the time. Usually when you can figure out how to counter it they don't have anything else and then they'll fall flat on their faces. I'm going that with practice, I'll be able to punish those kind of players

Yeah that may be so in madden, but the amount of things that just don't work online in order to counter those things is annoying. It's like getting a user intercept but the ball is invisible.

d1 d1 d1 d1 d1 when they block use a string. Just mash d1. This game is such a pile of shit lmao. Dead in no time. especially with the netcode being trash. It had a chance but nrs is making money off nostalgia. No need to spend extra $$$ to make things work right when they are making bank as is. If you buy a pile of shit they'll keep selling you piles of shit with dlc turds to add to your pile of shit.
Yo I never realised Nightwing was in the game

I'll bleed you, real quick.
You're too defensive, Erron Black's a browler, that's why I switched over to him. When you're in a corner ex slide the hell outta there. When I start the match I go with F13 sand toss or F13 ex sand grenade and go into a combo from there on. F22 is also a safe starter. Don't to NJPs online, it's almost impossible to get a hit... Hope this helps

Every bit of advice helps for sure. And I do appreciate you guys not being harsh. FGs are really new to me but I'm having fun learning and I enjoy the challenge

Based off the video, I'd practice with the run function more. Once your mobility gets stronger, you'll have a lot more offensive options, and you'll push your opponents outside of their comfort zones. Here's three things I'd practice in training mode.

1) Run towards your opponent and press D+4 at sweep range (or whatever EB's best low-normal is)

2) Run towards your opponent and jump in for an attack once you reach mid-range

3) Run towards your opponent and low-block once you reach mid-range to bait something punishable

I would advise using the third option very conservatively. It's only something you want to do when you feel confident that you've identified the opponent's playstyle and you know they're doing unsafe stuff. If the run function feels awkward to you, let us know and we'll give you tips. If felt very foreign to me at least when I picked up the game. Other than that, I think you just need time and combo practice. When it comes to learning fighting games, I've always believed your subconscious does most of the work. Just keep grinding at it, and when you get disheartened, spend some time in training mode polishing your damage. The clock does the rest.

Awesome stuff man. There's so much to learn sometimes I don't know what I should be practicing lol. But the run function is something I need to get comfortable with. I try to rush the input and end up blocking
