Expectations were incredibly high for Combo Breaker's MKX Top 8 this evening -- and the action we saw today may have shattered them. Even with such a jam-packed cast early all-stars, Sunday's finals contained a quantity of shocking moments and razor-close finishes that would have been impossible to predict.

The first set between GGA's Dizzy and REO went down to the wire, with Dizzy narrowly pulling ahead at the end. Afterward CORN's Alucard, who had already shocked the Mortal Kombat world at least twice in the previous day, faced off against ForeverKing in what some assumed would be a one-sided battle. But Alucard and his Kotal Kahn fought toe to toe and read for read with King, matching him at every turn and forcing King to his absolute limit.

Showcasing a set of impressive instincts, Alucard ultimately overcame Kung's imposing offense by making extremely effective use of Kotal's range. In a nailbiter of a final match, Alucard seized his final opportunity, sending King to losers and causing the crowd at the venue to roar in approval.

The day's surprises weren't over however, as an incredibly sharp-looking Raptor faced down and ultimately defeated Michaelangelo's intimidating Summoner Quan Chi for the second time this weekend. And in one of the most exciting sets of the night, Raptor fought King's Kung Jin tooth and nail, almost pulling out a victory before a couple of costly mistakes allowed King to snatch it back form his grasp.

In losers, Sonic Fox went on a warpath through the bracket, quickly dispatching Nikolasss Ermac and moving on to send REO out of the tournament as well. His Erron then Black put King's Kung Jin down so efficiently that King switched to his Goro as a last resort before going down 3-1. Continuing his amazing run, Alucard took Dizzy to the brink in winners finals, bringing the set to the final round before Dizzy's whithering corner game won him the set.

After Sonic Fox navigated his way through Alucard's fundmentals to win Losers Finals, Sonic and Dizzy matched up for the final set of the day. In front of 45,000 viewers, the two put on a spectacular, in what may be one of the finest Mortal Kombat Grand Finals sets seen to date. After Sonic reset the bracket, the matches had the crowd on edge, going down to absolute last round. An although Sonic fought as hard as it is possible to fight, Dizzy cornered him at last and managed to finally lock him down for the win.

This could not have been a better showcase for the game -- and with 273 players from around the nation, MKX showed its best parts in convincing style. With a ton of highly-anticipated events to look forward to in the next few months, this is a fantasic time to be a Mortal Kombat player, and an equally great time to be a fan. What will the future hold? We'll find out. Let's go!

Mortal Kombat X -- WE IN THERE

Biggest game at Combo Breaker
Possibly the best Grand Finals

Thanks to Rick for giving the game the appropriate showcase, and to everyone who travelled to show their skills and vie for the prize.

This was a ridiculously stacked 32 and no one who placed anywhere in it should feel ashamed.

Congratulations to GGA Dizzy, who with his new character is now the Omega'est of Omegas. Who's next?!
