You either, A.) sign a contract with them that allows them to have network access where they setup hardware firewalls, basic BGP routing, and DDoS mitigation temporarily for the event OR B.) pick a better venue than a hotel that already has this in place or will give you the control to do so. It's really not that complicated. But I guess to people on this forum it might be.
A hardware firewall at the termination point won't stop any decent DDoS.

What hotel has DDoS protection in place from their ISP?

If it was this easy we wouldn't see various E-Sports organizations having troubles with DDoS attacks.

Now sure how business got in the conversation on a fighting game forum but the Streams have been terribly disappointing to say the least.

Constant dropouts of the stream, hiccups with the streams in the middle of the fights, wrong pools playing, fights being reported on the wrong Streams, etc. Name the failure, this Combo Breaker has it.

To me & this is just my opinion, Combo Breaker 2015, as far as the streaming & scheduling aspect of it goes.....it has been a complete failure & that's putting it lightly.

But still even with the streaming & scheduling failures this is a stacked tournament & the fighting & competition (when It's actually on a god damn stream) has been spectacular. I guess you can't win em all.

Shout outs to all involved with making the stream happen either way because I know It's hard work; just so frustrating when we can't see these gladiators compete reliably.

& YES I'M SALTY TOM BRADY LOST LOL
Wow. Didn't think I'd see it, someone who knows what he's talking about and is in-line with reality on these forums. Kudos.

There was 30,000 people on the live stream for MKX yesterday for a couple hours. That's a ton of revenue and will bring in more money for both the tournament and the sponsors. Advertising to ~500-1000 people locally vs. 30-50k globally is a bit more profitable. Like I said, it's not 1999, and if you're running tournaments that way, then maybe you should stop being stuck in your old ways and get with the times.
Ok, let's go back to your college marketing and business classes (you have taken college business and marketing classes, right? I'm sure you wouldn't put yourself forward as an expert if you didn't have at least a basic knowledge, even if you do keep saying things that are pretty much the opposite of the basic practices here). How much more is a potential customer who has proven they're willing to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on your products worth than a customer who has proven they'll watch other people use your products for free?

The advertisers with money would much rather have a smaller number of extremely high value potential customers than millions who aren't going to buy anything.

Why is the young adult category the only one advertisers care about with TV? Because they're the ones who spend the most disposable income on stuff. Nobody else matters.

Hotels don't, that's why you either pay them, like I said in my last response to you, to allow your network administrators to set this up and secure the network(please tell me these tournaments have at least one, right?), or choose a better venue. I'm just trying to offer advice and I'm getting attacked by people who have no basic networking knowledge or business sense. But who wants a well-run tournament and the MKX competitive scene to grow, guess they should just keep doing things the same way over-and-over again and expect different results.

You're mad bro. Or as the nerds in the FGC's call it, "a salty scrub."
So then, why are you on a forum dedicated to a fighting game? You come in here spouting about intelligence and logic, but your presence makes no sense at all. I'm sure someone in your chess club or physics group would love to debate you about the internet defense of a standard hotel, so go back there. Thanks.

Where's the evidence of this being an actual DDoS attack, besides some dude saying "lol just brought down da servers" after the stream goes down?

Most people don't take the type of responses you're providing too lightly. Whether they're knowledgeable/correct is irrelevant. It's the way you're wording them.

Also anyway I have a question regarding SonicFox's match with Trepound

If Tre goes to the character select screen to give himself time to think after losing a match, is Sonic actually allowed to spam select his character to throw him off or can he tell a TO to tell him not to do that? Not saying it did, but it really did seem like Sonic was trying to rush him into a decision. Then again, he was trying to listen to the crowd for advice. *shrug*

They tweeted yesterday that it was due to a DDoS attack. It's not the same case today, apparently.

There is no way to "secure the network" from the endpoint. Any attack with sufficient volume to clog a hotel's pipes is going to create issues you can't mitigate post-arrival.

It's not like the hotel is sitting at a Tier 1 node with tons of throughput to spare. They are in the ballroom at the Crowne Plaza.

And I doubt any hotel you asked to modify their entire internet setup would acquiesce. You are confusing DDoS protection of a customer-facing website/service hosted with a DNS, with trying to mitigate an attack from the endpoint, at a hotel.

Ok, how many convention centers (most of which are in hotels) do you know of that have advanced DDOS protection? Or, to look at it from the opposite direction, how many places with advanced DDOS protection are 1) available for public events, and 2) large enough to hold a well-attended convention?

Execution and delivery are everything young grasshopper. The "holier than thou" approach never works. Try saying it down here where we common folks can hear you; that pedestal is a tad bit too high for us.

Back on topic:

Anyone know where I can find an update bracket?

I was watching the stream yesterday when it went down the first time. ONE guy posted the ip of the hotel AFTER it went down, and claimed he did it. It spread as rumor from there. Nowhere has any organizer, streamer, or credible source claimed that a DDoS happened, and in fact, spooky and callisto repeatedly have said it's not a DDoS, it's other problems related to the venue Internet.

These rumours are getting a little ridiculous....

Also, hi. First post here after lurking for quite a while.
