It was an intense Top 16, at times leaving only a razor's edge between victory and defeat. As today's bracket went along, the matches only became better -- and up to 27,000 viewers gasped and howled along with each development game by game.

In addition to the recognizable names at Texas Showdown, there were several fresh faces making a notable mark on the bracket play. Coosco showcased a very solid Sonya, making good use of her whiffed divekick and nearly sending Digit's Raiden to losers before a dropped combo that changed the course of the set. Four Wude brought out a formidable Scorpion, using the Hellfire variation's Flame Aura move to help stymie his opponents' offense.

Among the favorites, Chris G made use of a strong-looking Ancestral Kung Jin, blending the terrific ranged normals Jin is known for with a Green Arrow-esque harassment and mix-up game. Scar alternated between a dangerous Sonya and his Jax, taking several players to the limit. And Justin Wong brought out a much-improved Raiden, showing increased command of the corner and garnering ample damage from Raiden's low starter in footsies midscreen. A fantastic, high-stakes battle between Justin and Scar in Losers would eventually send Justin home in a narrow defeat.

But it was Digit who looked stronger the entire field on Sunday, as his Raiden was repeatedly challenged but never bested during the tournament. Although Scar tore a hole through the losers' bracket, and Chris G seemed to get stronger with each match and ultimately sent Scar home, it was Digit's trusty Raiden that never faltered under the pressure and secured him the win.

This was Digit's second win of Texas Showdown in a row, and also marks the second significant win for a player who found his stride in Injustice, after Wonder Chef's at Northwest Majors.

The action in Houston this weekend sets the stage for a busy month, with the ante ramping up at Toryuken next weekend and carrying into the game's first truly big major, Combo Breaker, on May 22-24. Who's next? We'll find out in a week -- see you then!

Could somebody teach Chris G consistent Ancestral Kung Jin BnBs before his next grand finals appearance?
Oh wait, no one can, no one else plays Ancestral.

Technically I won more tournaments and got more Major top 8s in MK9 haha.

Also grats to Digit.

Shazam players, the struggle is over.
