Match-Up Discussion - Scorpion Scorpion Matchup Discussion Thread

I think all three of his variations are viable in this matchup, were as in others i feel ninjitsu really suffers. It's still really really early and hard to say an honest opinion on the matchup. A few months down the road we may never see many kung jins once the game develops further. I also can't stand Ninjitsus lower damage than the others.

I still feel that inferno and hellfire are both strong and viable, but ninjitsu is going to take some buffing or something to make it worth it.
What we need to do is discuss and explore the options so we don't get overwhelmed in tournaments, giving time for the game to evolve, allows for a more in depth reaction to the discussion indeed, but lets say you will have a tournament tomorrow, will you lose to lab it up later?

Two eyes are better than one, having multiple people looking at it can do wonders for matchups, we've done it before in MK9 lifespan, and i'm sure we can do it again in MKX

Rrsponding to K.Jin MU

Imo ninj. Sucks til it has better properties. No salt just how I feel after a few hundo. Games.

Good points on hellfire. It keeps him off you a second. Be careful not let him punish you for trying to keep it up outside of a setup tho.

Backstep air demon in inferno, baiting a jump works well, but again he has great reach and a dive kick. It's all a gamble with k.jin.

So is it really gonna be like 25 weeks before we can talk about 'xyz' character? This matchup thread feels awfully restrictive considering there's like 70 matchups in the game.

Hahaha! Just the thing! Joining another tourney this sat....and I *still* feel my MU knowledge is lacking. Will need advice dealing with raiden, cages, sonya and jax :)

I mostly main inferno but im fairly knowledgeable with ninjutsu and hellfire.

I co-main Sonya. Covert Ops wont be too bad for you, but you have to watch for her actually connecting block strings, which can get her into stance, leading into another 50/50. Backstep and delay so she loses her ability to make continuous 50/50 pressure. Make her dive kick and counter the landing. You win the zoning easily.

Special forces can be different as she has good range pressure and make you block so she sets up her rushdown, but luckily her rushdown isn't that scary in Special Forces and her homing projectile will eventually disappear if you avoid if. Watch for the ground bomb drone and her overhead combo tech. Lastly, she tries to call her drone on a knock down, but it's usually punishable anyway on wakeup (take down/tele/close range 123 combo.)

Awesome! Thanks for this!

I won't be able to lab for a while; what are the Sonya's strings I should look out for? Am I correct in assuming that she has no strings that end in a low? Are they something I can mash d3 to escape?

All good, beast.

d3 might beat her b33 string, but her two big strings that go into military stance are b14 and b33, overhead~low and low~low respectively. The latter is a few frames slower on start-up. Everything else is usually done in combo for an un-techable KD jump-in.

She gets messed up if her b33 or b1 don't at least connect on block though, as it doesn't even finish the string or cancel into stance, leaving her open without the end of the whole string to cause some push-back. So, trying to stay right outside of close range forces her to use f2 or try and move up. = snap city.

If she does have low enders they aren't good or used--I don't remember any.

Again, only real low threat is using drone's RT+4 and her b1 string together. Drone does good damage on low hit.

Been playing a lot of scorp lately, and there are 2 mus that i for the life of me cannot win. What the hell do i do vs liu kang (right variation i think dragon fire?) and any johnny cage? I cant find a way out of the pressure and everything they do looks safe to me. I've been using hellfire and it doesn't seem to do anything, cancels and all. What do you guys do? who else gives you trouble? am i just terrible? unsure

So far i think Kung Jin is the greater problem, i haven't faced Liu Kangs yet, but surely will in the following tournament.

Hellfire is good to some matchups, has projectiles, unblockable special and OTG, can build meter a lot faster and can do a lot f damage, but i think hellfire will not do all the work, there is some matchups where i'm more comfortable using Ninjutsu, if you can play solid footsies with it you get to limit 3 strengths of every character (wakeup, air control, way to approach or retaliate), and if they're heavily reliant of this 3 to play their game, Ninjutsu automatically becomes their bad matchup.

yo dude, are you retic or insane in the mkx ph qualifiers? i think i just learned cage's & sonya's really good mixups and strings for the first time while in gf hahaha, im currently studying ninj scorp, the options are really limited and yeah i think they should make f2 an oh, but im really liking the neutral playstyle for ninj scorp, hellfire seems really nice too

@migosan Retic here; my old TYM account won't load ('twas connected via FB) when I tried to sign in with FB so ended up making a new account.

i have a rather bad tendency to "panic mash" d3/d4 when being rushed down with said characters. maybe i REALLY need to know what those strings are so that I know when to sneak a d3/d4 instread of "hail mary mashing".

What matchups are tough for Scorpion right now would you guys say?
Either @migosan just knows the match up waay better than me or Ermac gives me fits or I just don't know when to punish his strings. I also feel helpless when barraged by pit bull characters (ie: Cage family).

Speaking of rushdown...

This was featured in Kotaku but it would be awesome if we knew what to do if we are facing rushdown characters like the Liu Kang player featured and what we can do to stop their assault.

Mains: Not Sure Right Now ...
How do you guys deal as INFERNO scorpion with players (perhaps weaker players) just face rushing with constant block strings and pressure / aggression
Ex Teleport. Ex teleport cancel. His down 4 is great for keeping opponents away. Ex Rise can catch opponents running in. Scorp is always risky though, so go big or go home lol.

My eyes! The goggles do nothing!
Online warrior here: what advice would you give me to deal with scorpion scorpion players that cross up jump and teleport constantly? Also, dealing with low demon and dive kick demon.

I play cassie and sonya. I like to play footsies and slow the match down, but scorpion doesn't do either of those things. I'll backdash his jump, waiting for him to land and whiff punish, except he will teleport punch me.

Do I just need to play defensively and wait for him to tele? And when we are in a poke/counterpoke situation, just njp him because he will probably cross up?

Advice is appreciated. I feel like we are playing different games when I fight an online scorpion
