The Smart Stuff - MKX: Prevent the downfall of the NRS community

No no no I was talking about both players talking about characters needing buffs for being underpowered and nerfs for being overpowered, when the game has literally been out for only a week or two. Remember a few days ago when people were saying Sonya wasn't good, and now REO runs through everyone in the ESL tournament with Sonya? Nobody knows who's good or who's bad, but they're calling for balance patches already.
Exactly, and that shouldn't be happening this early into MKX's life.
Nobody knows who's good or who's bad, but they're calling for balance patches already.
Or trying to make or push discussions about tier lists............needs to stop. There is 75 playable characters in MKX.

IT. NEEDS. TIME.

Oh, I never intended that to sound like I have something against not being too hasty, it's just that particular remark about "you're casual, so you don't really care" that irks me. Same goes to second point, there is no point blaming testers when their numbers are limited and open testing we effectively do now is the best IMO, so I actually agree with the principle. As long as patches keep coming, it's fine.

CitizenSnips

A seldom used crab named Lucky. AKA Citizen Snips.
They really just need to do these simple things:

Sub-Zero
- If his ice clone does not hit anyone then Sub-Zero should lose all meter and get frozen himself
- Slide should be -64 on block and also should not be able to duck under any projectile

Scorpion
- Pretty much just remove his entire mixup game

Reptile
- Give him a safe on block divekick
- Give him a safe on block teleport
- Give him back his original forceball animation

With these above changes I think the complaining will stop.

And im tired of seeing threads of people complaining about silly stuff , for example "his overhead is so OP" or "His Low is so fast" , omg like block duh lol

Been hearing about the "downfall of the community" since 2011. But we're growing, and getting bigger every week.

Truth is, this happens in every gaming community. People complain; it's life. Especially in competitive communities.

If you don't like it though, it's easy enough to ignore. And at the end of the day, people will enjoy the tournaments regardless.

The community is fine and I'm sure we'll still be hearing the same song and dance when we're 3x as big in 2018.

If you wanna complain, then complain. To me I just view it as discussing a character's weaknesses and strengths. I like discussions and don't see the harm in it. People learn from it. It's up to NRS to use their best judgment when balancing. That shouldnt disuade people from voicing their opinions and discussing stuff.

I'm tired of this argument. Casual players need balance as much if not more than competitive players. The latter will just pick up better toolsets, the former, however, are very concerned with viability (I'm not even saying "effectiveness") of those they like.

I have also seen health and meter being fully restored instantly for the character that did some funny dance. Sometimes for both. Should've reported that too, right?..
Nop. Casual players don't reach the level required to exploit characters like that. If there's a overpowered fireball like Mk9 Kano's prepatch knife then sure they can abuse that. But generally it doesn't affect their play. When I come to think of it, balance hardly affects my play, and I'm halfway between casual and hardcore.

Like you said yourself, some facets of balance concerns them very much, and some of them know what they are doing in some situations. Although it depends on what we call "casual", "hardcore" and/or "competitive", I guess :p

Also I already mentioned that:
- I didn't mean that catering to low level players should be priority;
- Casual players themselves, people may be hardcore competitive scene fans and they are very interested in seeing it diverse, which is only possible if characters, and possibly playstyles, are balanced for high level play.

Catering to low level players is actually quite important because it is they who bring in the big bucks as they are the overwhelming majority. But balancing is not really how you cater to them. They want more characters, skins, modes, etc. For example, MK9 Kabal was nothing special for a casual player who couldn't perform NDCs nor spam IAFs like REO :REO. They might think it affects them but it doesn't. They cry because they cannot get around certain problems that may well be quite balanced.

Well, it does affect them when they are on the receiving end :p
And my second point still stands.

That said, when I was talking about catering to audience, I meant exactly that - you don't balance games around people who cba to learn it, I agree.

REO "running through people" in an online tournament 2 weeks into the game's life proves that a character is good? I'm not saying Sonya is bad, I honestly have no idea, but we can't use such an insignificant sample as proof of anything either.

So you're saying the MK9 Kano (knives), Jade (U3), and Injustice Deathstroke nerfs were justified because casual players wanted balance?

Link this my man
You're right he doesn't need an opinion on balance when you barely play the game competitively.

And you further prove your point because the funny dance isn't a bug, they are on dev kits, so of course they are going to have codes to restore resources to showcase the game.

That was my point exactly, because they used a lot of dev tools, of course nobody would say that Ermac gaining meter for no reason is suspicious.

Yeah you DO balance games based on casual people - that is the smart thing for NRS or any other company to do.

If there are a heap of casual people online who cannot get past, lets say, Kano's knives, they will nerf it.

Ultimately the casual audience who "cba to learn it" are the ones that the company considers important as they make them the money to pay their bills.

Don't get me wrong, they like you... they just like casual people more

That Don't Impress Me Much
what do you mean by NRS community? WB owns the intellectual property rights for the game. All they care about is money so if NRS makes them profit then if they make profit then mission accomplished. It would not surprise me if WB said..."these 10 or so characters must be in the game". all the playable characters from mk1 and mk2 with the exception of shang tsung and baraka are playable. they are the greatest hits of the franchise. Goro is also a well known staple. Baraka is still featured. The guest characters and obviously Injustice were more than likely WB's involvement. Not saying they don't like working with those characters but unlike before WB took over they don't own the franchise. even if the game dies and makes money it won't matter. This is partially why I think a lot of the new characters are overpowered but at the same time very simple and generic looking. I'm not trying to be disprespectful to the devs I'm just saying this is the bottom line.

Well, I consider myself to be pretty casual :p
Speaking of existing practices... You have a point, although I'd say most of balance changes were aimed towards more competitive folks, but yeah.

I feel this is necessary. People who want buffs or nerfs appear to be very vocal about it, but i think there is a huge majority here that does not want changes at such an early state. This is the place to raise your voice and show it to NRS.

For me, "after EVO" seems like a point where you can more clearly see what is a problem and what not.

Discuss if or if not, and if, then when balance changes should happen.

Edit: "Balance changes" of course excludes patching out bugs and infinites. That should be done ASAP.

I agree, no changes until after EVO unless it's obviously broken stuff. But it seems that's just too unreasonable for some people..

All I hear is people saying, "give it time", "stop asking for buffs/nerfs, just play the game guys", and "JESUS IT'S ONLY BEEN TWO WEEKS", but in the end, we only make up about 5% of the market and NRS are gonna do whatever the hell they want. People should know by now that there isn't much we can do.
