Strategy - Reptile Low Dmg output

This is not meant to be a thread to complain but to voice my concerns to the other reptile mains and wonder if you all have the same thoughts. I feel like reptile has very low meterless damage with low/overhead especially. I feel like they wanted this character to revolve around mobility more than damage this time around, not saying its a bad thing but It will take some time to get in my head that EVERYTHING costs meter and I will have to setup lots of 50/50, also not a big fan that to get the most out of my variation(deceptive) I have to burn meter. so just to reiterate, I not complaining, just wondering if a small or large portion of my fellow reptile mains feel the same, looking forward to seeing the replies I get

His damage is fine, he gets a free set up from the OH and they have to guess the follow up. You can commit to the OH and get full combo damage. Corner he gets plenty meterless into moar setups. I have 0 complaints about his damage.

If you don't mind my asking what OH and Low meter less are you using in the corner and what bnb midscreen?

His damage is mediocre. Flat out. All the other characters I've messed with do more damage than him. I don't truly see a reason to use Reptile over some of the other characters in this game, like Kano for example. Overhead/low starter, more damage, better projectile, etc. etc.

Kung Jin gets easy damage, has more tools, better jump ins, etc. etc.I'm starting to not like Reptile as much. :/

I agree with this 400% except for the last sentence. I've been maining reptile since mk2 and every game after. I will never drop reptile but I feel like nrs gave reptile beyond average damage and a beyond average meter cost. I feel like a vast majority of the cast has amazing zoning and damage COMPARED to reptile. Would love to see what everyone else thinks

Not true. You guys don't even know how to play Reptile and you're already trashing him lawl. If you guys are gonna have this attitude, just pick someone else. You'll have the same issues with the other characters, and you're still gonna lose.

I'm not a pro fighter, but I don't feel he's nearly as bad as you describe. His damage isn't that bad. Not great, but definitely not bad (Shinnok is the one to complain about concerning meterless damage). He's fast, and that goes a long way.

Sorry if I made him out to be a bad character. I love reptile and I almost NEVER lose a match with him. just because I pointed out his very few cons doesn't mean I don't realize his MANY MANY pros. Reptile is a monster and his mixup potential is unparalleled. I should be allowed however to voice a few cons and not be talked to like I'm bad.

Reptile is FAR from a bad character. He has amazing speed and closing distance, a fast punisher, a corner game that rapes up the ass, a VERY quick overhead that leads into a full combo etc etc.

He doesn't need damage, there's a fine line between strong and overpowered. Right now Reptile is strong without the huge damage. Damage isn't everything by any means whatsoever. Damage is scary, but tools are better.

Edit: I didn't want to insinuate you were saying he was a bad character, but I did want to clarify. I don't think he needs the damage at all.

Well I was also talking about the other negative comment by JDM. Have I given you the impression you're "bad"? Well, sorry about that then. His damage is lower than MK9, but that seems to hold true for many characters in MKX.

Glad to see somebody can actually compose a thoughtful discussion. I so agree with you but my post was not to discredit reptile. I feel like alone your post has changed how I feel about my thoughts on reptiles damage , one more concern though is that he's extremely meter intensive(good thing he builds meter fast) but I can live with that. I do feel this character is mostly designed around mobility. I love this character I just waneed to see what others thought on this topic

If they raised his damage they'd have to slow down his mixups, his low and his overhead are so insanely fast. I'm fine with him the way he is. He's not an easy character to use but that's not a bad thing. Just gotta do work.

you know what, you're right I didn't think it all the way through. After reading everyone thoughts and responses I think I'm perfectly happy with the way they designed the character. Just had to vent a little and wonder how you guys are going upon lows and OH Combos? I get like 15% or 16% on correct 50/50, maybe the reason I feel The damage is low is because Im bad at combos lmao. I have good fundementals though so combos are the least of my worries. But anywhere I can improve I would love to.

I like Reptile. I thought he was amazing at first. But it turned out they gave everyone a 50/50 and MORE damage. All his specials are negative... I'm just being a realist. What's the point of picking him? I love elbow dash but everything else is like... eh.

Reptile gets damage into setups for days. And once he corners you, good luck lulz.

I've ended rounds in 10-20 seconds just because I got one touch. Just saying. His damage, while not as explosive as you'd want it to be, is fine.

His specials are all negative but he has a over head special and low special which can be used to mixup players. Just gotta pickup on player habits anD how the block early on to mixup til death

I Wil say that I think reptile is lacking in places where I feel.he shouldn't bUT it's a new game and I'm determined to learn and master him
