General/Other - Raiden Raiden General Discussion

For those of you using thunder god variation you should check out the footage of pl playing him in the gga tournament last night. Practical play that gives you an idea of what to do with that variation.

Link? Im having fun with TG Raiden online but I want to take him to the next level.

Whats his best midscreen meterless combo? I've been doing 3,4 Run 2,1,3 superman for 24% to punish things like scorpion teleport. Im sure there's better.

Also thank you for the link ^. Some amazing gameplay to study.

I repost that shit here from the combo thread.
"The risk reward for Raiden 50/50 (b2/b33) in the corner is in Raiden's favor I think, generally... So in the future, I'll try to play safer midscreen and go ham in the corner...
Thanks to TONY-T, I use those combos in the corner (when I feel I won't drop):
b2, b2, b14, EX df2, NJP, b14, df2 (or no df2 for standing reset)
b33, EX df2, b2, 213, b14, df2 (or not).
If I feel the 4 of the b14 won't connect because the opponent is too low, I end the combo with b111+3... (It's reactable)

I dont't know about Thunder God or MoS, but I feel with Displacer, you better go crazy in the corner...
Too bad he does not seem to have a great low poke..."

"Or you could just be some kind of a safe pussy and do b33, df2 or b2, df2 (Cancel the first hit of b2) until you have 3 bars for a breaker if your 50/50 is blocked. (or 2 bars for the overhead one)."

"So, what do you feel about not going ham until you have your 3 bars ? I'll test that strategy tomorrow... Only doing b2 or b33 into df2 until the 3 bars... That leaves you at -6 on block... That can't be that great, but I'll try it... Or just only using safe and hit confirmable things like 214 and 34 until the 3 bars... (Is 11 hit confirmable ?)"

Thoughts ?

bad part is high looking strikes make people duck, making his low kick rarely hit
Ducking don't make you block automatically though and blocking low generally means that a lot of highs are effectively mid to you anyway. If they are duck blocking, they probably aren't actively trying to duck highs.

At very least TG may afford being less responsible with his mixups in some MUs, especially in the corner, and he has still decent wall carry. So in that sense, he's somewhat "cheaper" than some other characters I can imagine.

I wonder if we should brace ourselves for nerfhammer to TG because of complaints and nothing for the rest variations because they aren't fleshed out :p

Okay, it's too early, but I cannot resist being negative Nancy ;)

Try 34, run~b14~fireball cancel, run~214~shocker.

Hello, I signed up to post this weird thing with Raiden's ex lightning bolt. Pay attention to when it hits for 17%.

It seems like you're able to hit them with the initial projectile and still have the trap come out.

Looks like a practice mode glitch.

Daaamn. I don't have the execution to pull that off yet, but I was able to fool around with it in the corner and get 34, b14~fireball cancel, run 2,1,3, 2,1,3, d1~shocker for 32%. Only took me 15 minutes :p

Edit: I found some better ones (meterless corner), will move to the combo thread.

Thanks!

Tested it to make sure.
The stopped ex bolt does more damage than the regular ex bolt as a general rule. I was messing with this yesterday, and it happens when you stop it right on them, making them hit it as the stopped version for bonus dmg. What's interesting is when you do b14xxEXbolt(immediate stop) it shocks them but stills remains on screen, and then you can run up and throw them back into the bolt again, tech roll and superman, lol. The bolt can be block after the raw b14 though. Maybe @TONY-T can find some combo applications for this?

Also, pressure-wise what do we think about 34xxEXbolt on block confirm? 3,4 has 31 cancel advantage and ex bolt starts up in 34 frames and is +13 on block. There is a 3 fram. window to armor out, but otherwise maybe a viable frame trap?

So what are Raiden's best/safest pokes? I've been having a lot of luck using b33 >db3(ex) into juggle combo and b3,2+3 into juggle combo but I'm not coming across any real good players so I don't known if using them in this manner is good.

F2 is a decent long range poke. 0 on block, advantage on hit. Not good as a meaty since it's technically a high. People duck under it sometimes.

I like my standing 1. 7f, long range, 0 on block.... Too bad it's a high...
If you want to use b33 as a poke, at least, cancel that string into df2... -6 on block, technically safe.

It can be poked but very hard to. Not bad for pressure if they don't have meter to armour. The timing to armour is kinda deceiving as you have to do it late right before the bolt touches you, so you might catch a few people out with this initially.

Got me thinking about ex bolt setups. It's gimmicky as it can be armoured through if b2 is blocked but if stop an ex bolt in front of the opponent from full screen, you can run in for a b2 or b32 mixup. If they try to punish b2 on block the bolt will blow them up and if they don't, the bolt will stay active long enough for raiden to recover. b32 will blow up armour and xrays though, love that string.

Did someone find something interesting with the "input bug option select" ?

Sometimes? I find 99% of my opponents online spend their day ducking and uppercutting. Overheads being slow as molasses don't help matters either. I'm just bitter displacer, lol. Pressure from tri-holds on thundergod help a ton.

Matchup advice vs Kung Jin? I'm in practice mode with KJ right now and I'm trying to figure out how this character is OK. I haven't heard the internet exploding with cries of Kung Jin OP, but I'm looking at how far B2 string reaches into EX bo swing that's only -6 and gives you an easy 40% damage for what risk, exactly? His EX db4 is +4 on block why, exactly?

Am I just supposed to sit there and hold that shit until he blows all his meter? I get that divekick is unsafe, but he doesn't even need to approach with that except sparingly. Relatively inexperienced in MK, compared to Capcom and 3D fighting games.
