Your feelings on the story ? ( Spoilers obviously)

One thing... why is Kitana "Mournful" over Jade??? Jade was not shown in the story and died just like everyone else in MK9

Yeah this is extremely confusing. Rain has a redesign, a cool voice, his own agenda, and a character model yet he's not a playable character and they've basically confirmed that he won't be DLC. I'm not a fan either but that's insane.

EDIT: Also, that was a huge "Fuck you" to Sektor fans. He's been my favorite since MK3, mained him in MK9, and he gets killed off-screen even after he survived MK9 and was left in a huge position of power. He could at least have been a flashback fight.
Hopefully the Sektor vs SubZero fight will show up in the comics, though that's a serious consolation prize. As much as I was ever a fan of Cyrax over Sektor, that was a shit way to be referenced.

As for 'Rain will never be DLC' .... I got a comment that, in interviews etc, Boon told us the boss would be surprising - it was not. He told us there would be no micro-transactions -- there were micro transactions. Hemmeric told us there would not be day one DLC -- there was day one DLC.

I basically don't believe anything NRS and co tells us about this game now. Though if 'no repeat dlc' is the one promise they uphold that'd be almost a worse kick in the teeth than the other straight up lies. Sorry, I am a huge NRS fan, but don't tell us things that just aren't true. Avoid the question if you have to, but don't fucking lie about it.

You're talking about shit that wasn't even relevant to what I said.... What does Rain and Sindel fans, Goro, Predator have to do with anything I said?
Don't try to justify why NRS left some shit up in the air.... Like I said still some unanswered questions. If you're going to bitch about someone bitching atleast make sense.
he just answered everyone one of your questions if you are going to refuse to listen then why the fuck are you asking questions?

I don't DISlike it, but I feel like the story really ended half way through. It feels more like The Hobbit than The Lord of the Rings, if that makes sense. They tied up one story (which was honestly the least interesting and most predictable one) but left a ton of other arcs just sitting there. Some of them kind of awkwardly in my opinion, like Kotal staging a huge invasion then all of a sudden just disappearing from relevance entirely.

The things that intrigued me the most were scorpion killing quan, dooming a bunch of revenents and D'Vorah's betrayal. However both of these plot points were pretty much glossed over and every character in the story immediately acted as if these events hadn't happened and their consequences had been reality since the beginning. No mourning, no anger, nothing.

I dunno, I felt like everything was presented very well (could have done without the useless QTEs though) and the story arcs were SET UP very well, there was just no payout and it feels like they squandered the truly intriguing moments they set up.

I could literally every post in this thread about the story be underwhelming. Lol After spoiling myself to it Could not bring myself to play through it's entirety so I'm glad that the Samurai pack glitch unlocked Shinnok for me.

Instead of listing what I didn't like because everybody pretty much already said it all by now. I'm only going to focus on what I liked.
  • Great voice-acting and character design: I seriously can not name one character that doesn't have a good voice. Even Takeda's voice that reminded me of a English dub Naruto character grew on me. My personal favorites are Sub, Ermac, Shinnok, Kotal, Quan, and Mileena.
  • How well They handled Shinnok: I had my doubts about Shinnok being the return villain because even though I thought he was cool in MK4 and Armageddon. I could not take him seriously as a major villain. That was until he made his first appearance in story mode. I was sold as soon as he opened his mouth and when he uttered the now infamous phrase "Miserable Wretch!" That sealed the deal for me.
  • Fight scenes (NOT QTE): The fight scenes in this game were so well done. It made me want to just keep watching them and not play the fight transitions. The ones that stood out to me were, Shinnok vs the Earthrealm Defenders in chapter 1, any of the scenes from the Netherrealm, Kotal's forces vs Mileena and Baraka, Sub vs the Special Forces Teen Titans, Shirai Ryu vs Special Forces and when Tanya was beating down Cassie like Stone Cold used to do made me Lmao.
  • Sub and Scorp squashing their beef: Finally. At this point the rivalry serves no purpose anymore and is the most boring and overplayed rivalry right behind Sonya and Kano, but I'm sure NRS will find someway to make them rivals again because they're the mascots. :coffee: Although I do wish they explore more into Bi-Han vs Hanzo Hasashi and Kuai Lang in the future. If he's still even alive that is, but this is Mortal Kombat so that doesn't matter.
  • NPC appearances: It was really great to see returns like Fujin, Bo Rai Cho, Frost, Li Mei make their return to the franchise. And to see Rain have a more important role than some of the playable characters. Unplayable Revenants were cool too. Sindel was by the best by far. Her MK9 redesign look better than most other characters' skins and alts.
  • The ending: Literally the best part... Revenent Liu Kang is the best thing that's ever happened to him. He's the RYU of the series so it's only right he gets an evil version that's now emperor of hell itself; same with Kitana (I do hope they return back to normal although). You can almost kinda feel for him being Earthrealm's champion and having everything taken from him just because Raiden is an incompetent God in the new timeline. Ugh I hate this Raiden!
Those were the parts of Story mode I liked the most. The story itself was very underwhelming as been stated many times. Wasn't bad, but not good either; great for a fighting game though, but the bar isn't set very high in the first place.

NRS can definitely improve on the plot inconsistencies as I'm sure they will for the next game's story but hopefully that's years down the line because I wanna play MKX for at least 5 more years.

This is explained in MK9 with Smoke's ending. Smoke is still Smoke but Smoke eventually learns he is actually a demon ripped from another dimension named Enenra and reformed as a human being.
Oh cool I never saw his ending. So the Enenra persona emerged with him being revenant then?

i thought there was way too many fighting scenes. i know its a MK game so i expect a lot but i didnt expect as many as we got

Another thing to consider is a lot of people seem miffed that the Revenants weren't saved, but perhaps they won't be. Perhaps Revenant Liu Kang and Kitana with the few others are going to become the primary antagonists of the next game and that was NetherRealm's plan to breath new life into the characters.

If so, then it wasn't a cliffhanger and the game set them up as villains in the end similar to how Mortal Kombat did with Shinnok and Quan Chi.

In terms of primary costumes, the roster for multi is not Story Mode. Scorpion and Sub-Zero's primary costume were never once seen in Story Mode, heck Scorpion is "human" in Story Mode, but no one is complaining about them. And the franchise has had non-canonical characters in rosters before. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 had Classic Sub-Zero and Human Smoke, for example.

Basically the ninja primary skins, and the older but normal skins for Liu Kang, Kitana, etc. are there so people can play those characters looking more traditionally. That's been done before too, in a fashion, where there was a normal skin for zombie Liu Kang in the 3d games.

I also remember how much people were screaming when Sindel killed most of the good guys back in Mortal Kombat, and in that game the cheesy Chapters that did nothing for the story like when Jax fought Cage because he kept bugging him to hit on Sonya; cheese like that. I honestly think people are being too hard on Mortal Kombat X's story, I guess you all expected more, but it's still solid.

The only major thing was Kotal Khan and Sub-Zero at the end. A bit more could have been done with that, but again, Kotal is not Shao. He is _not_ the primary antagonist, and Outworld isn't the threat it once was under Shao. In the last game, Baraka just vanished, as did Reptile, Mileena, and some others after a while, and they in turn weren't the primary antagonists.

So I don't see the Kotal thing as a huge deal either, and it's pretty consistent with how NetherRealm told the last story.

I am SO disappointed with it, i don't even know where to start. Short, not exciting, boring... there wasn't even a story tbh.
"Boss fight" is THAT a boss fight? I died 2 times during the whole thing and one of the two was during the boss fight.

Expected so much more from this, MK9 was better.

I hated the power level inconsistencies. How are we supposed to feel threatened by a boss if they can be beaten down by anyone? The only "power" Shinnok displays is his backhand X-Ray. Other than that he feels equal to everyone else. Even during fight scenes he only seems to be able to move people slightly.. yet Jax can uppercut people across a room.

The Kotal vs. Kano QTEs were stupid too. Outworld emperor.. he should have just grabbed him by the neck and thrown him out of the little cart they were riding in.

/rant.

Still love the game.
Jax have metal arms, Shinnok don't have that kind of power.

I think most of these "unanswered questions" or "plotholes" that I'm reading are simply the game telling a story that you guys "didn't like" and that's the reason of all the bitching.

The whole point of the game was to show how strong the new generation is. And Ermac was never a big deal really. He was overrated in MK9's cutscenes but he was beaten by a random cop there (a simple human just like Jacqui) and his "victory" over Jax was pretty much a sucker punch because Jax wasn't prepared at all and couldn't see him. The way they do stories in these games (good guys chapters only) Jax would probably beat his ass if they face each other again. Jacqui beat Kotal Kahn too, the new "emperor of outworld". That was more impressive than Ermac
No when ever talks about how Jacqui beat Kotal kahn, only kung jin beating him

I enjoyed it. I felt it was a good send off to older cast, and leaves the door open for future iterations for the new kids to take over. As far as some things left open ended... YUP- future plot lines!!

The story felt like a set-up for Mortal Kombat: Generations. I agree with everyone who thinks it was a huge leap backwards compaired to MK9.

The only good things that came out of it where good development for D'vorah & Kung Jin. The rest was a waste of time.

It takes some really bad writing for me to give two shits about a major villian like Quan Chi dying.
This. it felt like star trek generations, a crappy plot who's purpose is to pass the torch between sets of characters.

I don't like how they just unceremoniously killed mileena just kneeling on the floor. and a good chunk of the game's roster are barely in story and not even as they appear in story. others barely are in story too, like erron.

Omg I almost died laughing when they were discussing how sector died, possibly one of the best parts of the story.

The bit where Cassie casually beat down a superpowered Shinnok felt a little deus ex machina tbh. And critical characters like D'Vorah and Kotal Kahn got completely forgotten about towards the end.

That said, one thing about the story mode I did like is that, morality-wise, it didn't feel nearly so black-and-white as fighting game stories usually are - Kotal Kahn had a lot of sympathetic traits, and the likes of Raiden became a lot less merciful and pure.

Also it just feels right that this Mortal Kombat actually includes swearing for once.
