This thread is going nowhere because people on both sides of the fence are just going to continue to agree to disagree as emotions run high as this is a touchy subject for most. The hint about him being gay was so subtle most people wouldn't have even noticed.

Really, it all comes down to these two questions.. Were you interested in playing Kung Jin before the announcement of him being gay? Are you interested in playing him now?

Kung Jin being gay adds nothing to his character for me, personally. I always found him to be the least interesting new character in the game, whether that was because he was the last one to be revealed or not is irrelevant, but it's great that NRS gave their gay community some representation.

I just can't even bother to play him, because I find him bland and dry and as Liu Kang would say, "You are NOT Kung Lao!"

And he was irritating as fuuuucckk in the story mode! The insensitive remarks he made towards Jacqui and constantly bumping heads with Cassie over leadership.
He was seriously a bigger diva and Prima Donna than the entire female cast. Maybe that was the Dead Giveaway? :DOGE

Pretty sure they did get praised....
And pretty sure one of them even got a GLAAD award lol
And your experience in life as a straight person who says everyone loves gay people doesn't count because it is simply not a reality, gay youth are still much more likely to be homeless coz they get disowned and thrown out, gay teens commit suicide because of homophobia, gay people still get bashed in the streets, gay people still get killed do i go on?
you can tell what happens in my life is a reality? that's a wake-up call to me. Your arguments could be said for almost anything. People die and commit suicide every day, people get thrown out for being dead beat on a regular basis. These things are not exclusive to being homosexual, and you know it. People die in the streets every day also, should I go on?

I am not gonna argue with you or anything coz i dont even know who the fuck Dorian even is, but I can tell you when you're gay, your sexuality IS a very big part of your life coz so many good and VERY BAD things can happen to you because of it.
Like being disowned by your own parents who are supposed to love you no matter what, being bullied in school and at home, hated, not being able to even hold hands in public coz you're scared of getting gay bashed.

Thus it can become a BIG part of your character and who you grow up to be and how you deal with things, it did for me!
But since i don't know Dorian, i can't tell you why was he presented whatever way he was presented xD
I hate to tell you this, but people get treated like this every single day of their lives and not because they are gay...and they don't even have some "community" to fall back to, so quit playing the sex card because it's already becoming old like the race card.

Saint Op Omen

Savagely beating his super-ego with his id...
There is an old idiom.. "until you walk a mile in another mans shoes" it is mostly dealing with experience and empathy...
But I like "If you ain't ever been to the ghetto Don't ever come to the ghetto
Cause you wouldn't understand the ghetto And stay the fuck out of the ghetto"

I do like the way NRS handled it both in and out of the game by not making it a huge deal...
If someone thinks it is a big deal or not that's on them... Eat that cake...
Im happy I get so much representation as a undead revnant myself...

OMG basically what you're saying is what gay people go through because of homophobia is just normal coz people die everyday
My point is those things are MORE likely to happen to gay people than anyone,
Does this seem normal to you?

But by all means keep justifying this as NORMAL thing that happens to everyone

No I'm not saying that at all. I love how you go to the extreme for everything...I feel sorry for the ones around you in your personal life because it's not so easy to block someone such as yourself as it is online.

it does happen to everyone. It's an undisputable fact. people die in various ways every day, as well as get kicked out. These things are not gay exclusive. You should stop, don't take your "facts" from charts like that. Bring me concrete evidence.

What was EXTREME about the TRUTH? lmao It's not EXTREME it is reality. You just said "these things happen to everyone, not just gay people", I post statistics to show you that these things DO HAPPEN MORE to gay people, you say i am going to the extreme?

Judging from your experience (and if you like RPGs), you should give Dragon Age: Inquisition a shot. I brought up Dorian (and Poison) on purpose because they are two very well known gay characters with very different developments.

Dorian is a character who gets disowned by his parents for being gay, and flees his home to start a new life. There are plenty of articles on this character, but may people praise Bioware and Dragon Age: Inquisition for the Dorian arc because it was essentially written as a love letter to the gay community. There is even a few reddit threads in which fans (particularly gay fans) speak about how they cried during his narriative arc, as the tale resonated very strongly with their own personal experiences. He was polarizing because his story was completely consumed by his feelings of inadequacy, shame, and resentment over not being able to be what his parents wanted because of his sexuality.

Poison is one of the most stereotypically offensive characters ever made. A female originally from Final Fight (and later Street Fighter), who is labeled transgender, and is completely designed (both in playstyle and visual design) as being deviant. However, she is polarizing because much of her fan base embraces her design and celebrate it.

Both Dorian and Poison represent starkly different approaches to adding homosexual characters to gaming, but they both do so with the subtlety of a blunt force hammer. Kung Jin is refreshingly different.

Please recall that when I first posted in this thread, I began the conversation with (1) There is no wrong way to add a gay character, and (2) I like how they did it with Kung Jin. His sexuality does not distract from the narrative, it just is. He isn't any more or less heroic for being gay. Telling us he is gay has the added benefit of being more relatable for some players, which is also a good thing.

TL - DR: Kung Jin is cool, and not because he is gay (though for some, that may make him cooler). MKX did a good job at introducing his sexuality without making it define his character. He is a regular guy and a hero. That is what should be celebrated.

Oh the statistics i brought weren't concrete enough? aww
Oh btw, do you want the statistics in the US bubble where you can say it's NORMAL or the world statistics where many many countries still throw gays to jail and some execute gay people by law

No, I want you to provide evidence to your claims. Let me put this in a way you seem to understand.

I think Erron Black, Sub Zero, Rain, and Reiko are all homosexuals too. Reiko may have had a romantic involvement with Mileena in the comics but that was all to gain power, we all know he wanted Shao Kahn. Erron easily falls prey to Kung Jin and hesitates when he easily could have killed Rain before shooting him. He was clearly distracted by their exposed skin. and Sub Zero lives in the mountains with a bunch of men, with the exception of Frost.

Whether or not people are happy or unhappy about this, why does it even matter or need to be noted? At the end of the day it's just a video game. Sexuality has nothing to do with gameplay, and Kung Jin is just some electronic entity. Hell, nearly the entire cast could be gay since it's generally not directly stated. This isn't something that should be considered groundbreaking or a big deal in anyway to either side of the fence. It's clear NRS didn't intend for it to be a big deal either since it's so subtle.
