General/Other - Raiden Raiden General Discussion

Got the game last night...definitely will take some getting use to. Felt a little slower to me compared to Mk9 but that's probably because I'm not use to the controls yet. From an aesthetic standpoint Raiden looks amazing. Online was pretty smooth too.

The big question, I mean the BIG question is: Is b33 hit confirmable. The weirdest shit is it seems easier to block confirm that string (into df2 for exemple, or... why not EX tele.) But it seems hard to hit confirm into EX df2... Whatchuthink ?

Today I've realized that I lack practice of MK-style EX-moves. I'll need to spend a few evenings doing EX-teleport and also runs.

For that reason I think I am not qualified to answer that question above, but sometimes I really have problems with buffering EX-shocker. Oh well.

I play the game exactly one week and My favourite Thunder God is not yet friendly to me. Just checked the other thread where you guys post combos and such… found some useful tips. thnx

Fuck… so many combo possibilities, pressure , set ups, headache (Displacer). I feel I can't do this on my own like in MK9. It's impossible for me to organize all his tools and combine them. Do you think Displacer is the most appropriate to get an early understanding on Raiden?

Verily, Im having a really hard time teleporting far and away, or on the same side. His teleport is SO fast its hard to input that last direction before he's already zapped himself away. Nay? Tips?

And I dont see how using those static balls for setups works, since you have to have two out to do anything yeah?

I am having the same issue, it's not consistent yet, but it's just a matter of time and practice... (Too bad the online sucks ass)... I am having the feeling EX tele might be the best move in the game... Just imagine a perfect world where we would have a perfect Displacer Raiden, with perfect execution. EX tele ? Boom, full screen 12f punish with f5. Full screen 19f 50/50.

Speaking of 50/50, anybody have tested how minus Raiden is on Shocker? Numbers offered by frame data kind of hard to believe. I guess safety of our mixups depends on that.

Also I failed to find frame data for b2 cancelled after first hit. It combos with shocker, but I can't really say much else. I guess I should test that today.

Shit...teleport really is that bad.

I'm going with Stormlord, I think the Spark Traps will be more useful then the extra damage on Thunder God, and Displacer is total ass until that normal teleport gets better

Actually, accordingly to frame data, teleport is basically the same as before, except it's no more invincible on startup. Well, I suppose it's a huge deal...

I don't know about everyone else but tg is amazing. Not sure if anyone knows this yet but in corner combos when the opponent is high enough you can use b1,4 reset for +7 advantage or you can also cancel it into thunder bolt for +9 advantage and heavier frame traps.

Do you mean b14~bolt as restanding ender? Sounds like improvement over b14 then to me.
Heh, good things are sometimes simple.

Yes, it works but only in the corner. You can use mid screen for guaranteed chip/mindgames since bolt is cancelable in TG. :)

For the ones who have trouble using the directional tools of Raiden's teleport, remember that every time you land it costs one stamina bar.
...and don't feel bad about not being able to land it reliably :p

Seriously though, I don't think I've failed to execute it more than once or twice yesterday. I actually have problem of doing phase instead of normal TP by mistake :D I use keyboard, so there's that.

I actually find displacer the most formidable of the variations. The away teleport gives you almost a full screen distance in the opposite direction and most importantly, you can enhance weebobalay on hit confirm. That's huge. If you have an extra bar to spend that's 16% damage right away. IMO, the teleports are balanced a little too much to the conservative side but it just requires a different style of usage. Can't rely on invincibility like in MK9.

I really think NRS should have given Raiden the following:

Displacer -- Strings that utilize teleportation to link
Thundergod -- More useful db2
Storms -- Allow orbs to stay full duration of match OR if they time out, allow the orbs to do damage simply by walking into them. They don't need to do explosive damage, they can be DoT type dps like sunbeam or caltrops.

I think all of the characters are going to be heavily modified in the coming weeks. MK9 taught NRS a lesson (so did IGAU)...I'm sure they took an extra conservative approach to most characters to see how things shake out. In terms of Raiden, they probably didn't want to have all the tears of teleports being OP again.

From the thread I posted in the General MKX forum today: One of my favorite things is how much cooler moves look now. I mean, I was in Training mode with Raiden yesterday and was amazed at how spectacular most of his moves look. I kept doing many of them over and over (for example, the 1, 1, 2, 2, Hold 2 combo or the B+1, 1, 1+2 one; Holy crap, those are beautiful, especially those lightning finishes when you hold 2, just to enjoy the sight. I don’t really remember doing that with any other MK games since Armageddon. And on that note, holy crap Raiden is so awesome now! He’s got those lightnings flowing all over him during a match, during victory pose, etc. He really looks like a god of thunder now! And his X-Ray is mega epic. I love watching it! I am gonna be practicing my X-Ray finisher combos now, I don’t care about damage, I just want to see that stylish move come out at the end.

NRS guys are so smart..... Yea let's make Raidens staple move shitty rrrrrr!! Tele should at least be how it was pre nerfs in mk9, all 500 of the nerfs :coffee:

May someone explain to me what it means when a move is +0 on block??? My understanding is that it gives me time to block before the opponent counters. Am I correct in understanding this?

Pterodactyl

Plus on block.
Just unlocked Dark Raiden in the Krypt, it looks badass as hell. Still wish the lightning was red, but the blue effects from the variations make so that it actually matches a bit, unlike in MK9.

Teleport isn't his staple move, how did you even come to think that was true?

Electric Fly has been Raiden's signature and most well known move since forever.

+0 on block means if your opponents blocks that attack, nobody has any frame advantage. So, for example:
  • You do a move that is +0 on block
  • Your opponent blocks it
  • You and your opponent both hold up
In that scenario you will both jump up at exactly the same time.

If you're at +1 on block, you will recover one frame before your opponent. If you're at -1 on block you will recover one frame after your opponent recovers.

I like his teleport. You can teleport far enough away from them to be relatively safe. Can get out of the corner easily. If you want to be real slippery, use ex-tele. It's basically the same thing as mk9 tele.
